'Chainsaw Massacre' Franchise Far From Over?

After Platinum Dunes passed on bringing a third TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE into theaters, it sounded as if the legend had officially come to a close, but Leatherface will never die and neither will the franchise. This weekend some interesting news hit the web that teases that a new entry is in the works, only without Platinum Dunes. Read on for the skinny.

Kim Henkel - who co-scripted the original TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE with Tobe Hooper and directed TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING - is developing yet another entry in the franchise, so he tells Fangoria. "I've just done the first draft, and I'm still unsure of which way I'm going to go with it. However, it's the first time since the original that I've done something that I wanted to do with it. I'm excited about being able to truly realize what I've put down on paper."

After the rights holders asked for too much money, the third film over at New Line Cinema was left in the hot Texas dusk. The new film is said to be set in the present and moves things forward.

Nothing official has been announced, so until then take this for what it's worth. If they ever did make another MASSACRE, what would you guys like to see?

Sounds like a gamble. One would wonder if they would they would follow the continuity of the remake and have a one armed Leatherface slicing and dicing texas teenagers.

3 words: Leatherface in space.

I say just have the original Leatherface mentioned as dying sometime over the past thirty years and a new kid was raised as the new Leatherface for the present. It is the only logical explanation I can see.

And please, let someone else direct it. Henkel cannot direct to save his life as the fourth film painfully showed us long ago.

Henkel didn't direct TCM: The Beginning, he did The Next Genereration.

Just make sure its nothing like texas chainsaw massacre: the next generation i mean holy shit what a stinker

I dug the remake, didn't care for "The Beginning" as much because it felt like an empty clone of the remake, which I understand that's basically what sequels are, or in this case the prequel. But it just wasn't different enough for me. But it definitely had it's moments. I don't know if there needs to be a third one. I'm thinking it's time to hang up the bloody smock and Chainsaw.

So wait, since he had something to do with the original line of films, would it be a sequel to those films or to the new ones? I thought of that after I posted all that other shit. And he should bring Mosely back as Platehead, with skin picking hangar in hand!

Forget the shitty remakes and pretend they didn't happen. Bring back Gunner, Mosely and set it today. I would love to see that shit.

I agree with Zombie Hell, I don't think there's much else to squeeze out of the franchise, making an original Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie now would be very hard work.

Tricky, do we follow the tradition of the Platinum Dunes movies or try something different? By different I dont mean the extreme crapiness that was Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation staring Renee Zellweiger! That sucked...maybe it is time the Hewitt family moved and went where the meat is. I can think of nothing more terrifying than the Hewitts living in a large populated area.

Since Leather is at New Line with both Freddy and Jason maybe its time we had a monster mash to remember! Though there wont be much banta being flung about between the three icons maybe it would be good to get Sam Raimi to sell Ash to New Line so we can have people we want to hear spewing the cheese ball lines and not just useless fodder.

TCM remake & it's prequel rocks! These 2 films are my all time favorites. So I'm eagerly looking forward for another installment. Hope it'll do well too.

Slapyou, you said it man! Leatherface in space! Or maybe in New York. Then it won't be Texas chainsaw anymore. I know. So what. Also, other than Henkel as director, we'll be needing Renee and Mathew back.

So this is a continuation of the first series? I guess its a little 2 early for me 2 understand. If this is another in the pre-remake don't you think they should have did it before to prevent confusion?

Cool!, Looking forward to it, seeing as how there probably wont be another t.c.m. any other way, I will be willing to view this new idea with an open mind, Kim sounds pretty excited about it, and if he's excited, im excited, why not just get excited and look forward to seeing it, and be willing to view it with an open mind!

TCM: The Next Generation was truly one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Henkel should definitely not direct it.

Gee what do you think will happen? A group of teenagers car breaks down and/or they need gas. Ironically it's in front of the Hewitt Mansion.

I def always love looking forward to any chainsaw film, so this news is very exciting. I hope Leatherface still has both arms, that was dumb how they took one away, just retarded. Hell yeah, bring Moseley back to reprise his role!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and FUCK KIM, TCM: NEXT GENERATION SUCKED BALLS!!!

Slasher Freak

I just want it to be in the present. Leatherface can have a prosthetic arm or just stick the chainsaw to his arm like EVIL DEAD 2.
