George A. Romero Foresees the Return of Bub?!

The other day B-D reporter BC chatted with legendary director George A. Romero about his forthcoming DVD release of Diary of the Dead, which streets on May 20 (more details here). During the interview something interesting came up where Romero teased the possibility of 'Bub' (from DAY OF THE DEAD) returning in his next zombie picture. Read on for the skinny.

Romero talked with B-D about the possibility of characters from DAWN OF THE DEAD or DAY OF THE DEAD ever appearing in the upcoming films. "I had to go to great lengths for Savini to appear in LAND [OF THE DEAD] in his old costume from DAWN [OF THE DEAD]. The problem is those films are owned and controlled by other people," he explains. "They're no longer mine, and it's very expensive. I can't do like Steve King did with CASTLE ROCK. However, if i could get the permission.... there's a character in my new script which could be become Bub, in other words, he would be alive now. But they'd probably want a lot of money for that. I'm bad with that business stuff (laughs)."

Will we see the return of the infamous Bub? Let us all cross our fingers. Until then check out DIARY OF THE DEAD on DVD May 20 from Dimension Extreme and Genius Products.

George....c'mon. You can think of anything else? Nothing? Not a single thing? Maybe you didn't watch Fido...go watch that. Then you will see why it's a bad idea to make a movie about Bub.

This would be interesting to see. So does this mean his new script isn't a sequel to Diary of the Dead? I know he never confirmed a new Diary but he sure made it seem like he may make one. Hmmm... I love all his zombie films, but I'd like to see something non-zombie from him.

Someone please tell Romero to stop doing zombie movies. He is terrible at it now.

First off there is zero reason to bad mouth Bub. Bub was great and it would be interesting to see him in some sort of cameo or something in the next film. However, if you pay attention to what was said it wouldn't actually be 'Bub'. The character would be the living person who eventually ends up as the Bub we all know. As for what the next movie is, who knows really. But if it contains a living Bub it could make theoretical senst if it were a sequel to Diary. Afterall, Diary is supposedly set during the same period as Night, so a sequel could be during the same period as Dawn. They would just kind of have to kill 'Bub' off and not have the characters shoot take the zombie out.

I hope this means the return of Sherman Howard as Bub! Pegg's zombie was an homage to Bub, but he was NOT Bub. There is only one Bub, Sherman Howard. It'd be like getting ANYONE except Terry Kiser to play Bernie in a third Weekend film.

hey man, I'm sick of Romero doing the same shit again but I thik the return on Bub would actually be pretty cool!!! But yeah, besides that, George we love you, but please come up with something else, then finish it all up with "WORLD OF THE DEAD". Go out with a bang baby! I'm lighting up a cigarette for you right now, buddy! Much respect.

Whoa..Whoa...Whoa... "there's a character in my new script which could be become Bub, in other words, he would be alive now" So in the new film a cure has been found or zombies got all their memories back? Maybe this is a way to end the Romero zombie stories. We saw it happen...not how but the result, and now a possible conclusion? I can imagine what George could think up and very excited if this hopefully comes true.

I think what he may have meant is it would be Bub from before he died and became a zombie. I can't see him introducing a cure into the Dead movies. And for those of you bashing Romero for doing zombie flicks, you DO realize you don't have to watch them.. right? Anyway, Day is my favorite of the Dead films, and as much as I love Bub, I think he should be left alone. If George wants to do more Dead flicks, I'm cool with that. But let them continue to be indipendant of one another. Save for the small cameo here and there. But let's leave Bub's past and future up to our imaginations. That's my two cents on it.

George, george, george... You're starting to sound like my grandma who tells us the same fucking story everytime we go visit her in the home. Now this doesnt mean we dont love you george, but it does mean you are not safe with sharpe objects or to bathe unsupervised...silly old fucker ;p

What's the big deal? Zombies are his baby. He created the modern zombie film. You mention a zombie to anyone on the street, and the thought they're going to have is one resembling Romero's zombies. If he wants to keep on making movies in the genre he, let's face it, created, why should anyone be against that? As for Bub, I'd like to see him back, but it really depends on how it's done.

He also created the Modern Zombie Film with Russo Remember. And for some reason when Russo left the quality got a little less dark and a little more....weird and "Artisitc" or "Stupid". I wonder what Russo's script looked like before they tore it apart to make Return of the Living Dead....Love that movie by the way. BBRRAAAAIIINNNSSSSSS

It would be wonderful to see Bub again, let alone Savini and some other guys. Is there any chance we can see, let's say, Uwe Boll in it? Just kidding.

BloodFlow

H200 don't ever bring up Uwe Boll again. You know that fucker is smoking crack and unsafely fucking a toothless whore right now

Romero is god, he is still hammering out the good stuff where other horror movie makers are contemplating making a Casper straight to DVD flick. It would be great to see the character of Bub back in the franchise being that (from my gatherings) Diary of the Dead happened the same time as Night of the Living Dead so it would be stupid not to have Bub in it...perhaps he started out as one kick ass take no shit GI Joe! Romero tell these studios that you created these movies, you concieved of these characters so you are going to use them the way you see fit...corporate dicks!
