With Lionsgate's Saw V in production in Toronto, we decided to chat with star Betsy Russell about her role as Jill, Jigsaw's wife. You can read the skinny inside, but don't hold your breathe for anything too revealing - everything will be answered when SAW V arrives in theaters October 26.
Last week we had the chance to chat with one of the new stars of the SAW franchise, Betsy Russell, who plays Jigsaw's wife Jill in the popular serial killer-horror series. Now that she's one of the main stars of SAW V we tried to dig to get some goodies out of her. I knew this was going to be a battle. When asked what does Jill's future hold in SAW V she joked, "If I told you, I'd have to kill you in a bloody and disgusting way..."
Depending on how you look at Jigsaw, you might see his cause as noble. Russell tells us what it feels like to be his wife. "It feels great to be cherished and adored," she explains, "I think every wife should be, it's a great aphrodisiac..."
Jill may or may not agree with what Jigsaw is doing, but what does Russell think of his actions? "[I think] some of us need a moment or an event to happen in our lives to make us step off the treadmill of life and say, 'hey, am I appreciating what I have?' Let me re-evaluate here and see if I'm making the most of it... Jigsaw just takes it to the next level... You will have to wait to see how Jill feels about it," she teases.
In SAW V, David Hackl has taken over directing duties for Darren Lynn Bousman (who directed the previous three), Russell tells us she misses Bousman, but it having a great time with Hackl. "Everyone misses Darren but Hackl is awesome!" She continues, "They are both creative geniuses. Hackl is just more quiet about it."
The SAW franchise is said to go for a total of six films, with five sequels. We asked Russell if she heard that a seventh was in talks, she explains that it;'s up to the fans. "Yes [there will be a seventh SAW] if fans keep wanting more..."
I feel like one of the few who still like the story (how gauche XD). Even just for a bit of entertainment. But I don't blame anyone for not really digging it. I just really really really hope Jill isn't Jigsaw. I might end up in the latter category if she is..
This stupidity is still going on (SAW films)??? People are actually STILL spending money on this fucking garbage??? Nah...people can't be THAT stupid!!! Come on now
The first Saw, though somewhat predictable, was quite decent. We had a cool enough locked room mystery and an experimental look at the lengths a person will go to in order to commit him/her self to survival and the survival of loved ones. We saw a serial killer with habits quite unlike anything we'd previously seen. And finally, we had a serial killer whose motive was to teach people to live and appreciate life. it was the most interesting and original serial killer innovation ever. But alas, with the sequels, what we're seeing is movie after movie being made with a mere fraction of the effort that was spent on the first and then hoping that the few concepts that made the first one good will hold the sequels up as well. And it's just not working. Saw has effectively become a soap opera.
Honestly, why does no one want to see more sequels, I mean seriously they aren't that bad, but if even if you think they are, the sequels wont take away from what the original did, its like how every1 hated the new halloweeen and were mad it was made, but just because it was bad doesn't mean it ruins how great the original was, sequels still need to be made even if they arent good we still hve the original, it doesnt detract from its greatness...
I wonder how they are going to amp up the this sequel's twist, which we all know there must be.
I think it would be cool if, in the end, Jigsaw was actually just playing his part in a game.
Ok...I am with Lucksaw. The thing about 4 is kinda like 1....the difference is at least you know you know there is a need for more storyline to explain. It's hard to explain, but there was Saw. Than there was Saw II...Saw 3 was a sequel and a prequel, Saw 4 told us even more about what was happening and surrounded the first 3. Maybe you understand this, maybe not...I know what I'm trying to say, but putting it in words...well, never mind...I would love to see this franchise in a book form!!!!
I like the 'saw' series. The first one was okay but the story line was good. The 2nd one was better because it contained more gore and better CSI acts. The third was okay but it had really good gore scenes. The fourth was better because there was a better story and good gore.
I love the saw movies but I think its getting out of hand. I was always having the idea that they would stop at five. I don't think we really need a seventh film wrap it up at six.
rushnmutt...I'd rather shave your hairy ass than pay to see another SAW sequel.
