Yesterday we broke the news that Shauna MacDonald and Natalie Mendoza would be returning in Pathe's The Descent 2, the hotly anticipated sequel to Neil Marshall's underground monster movie. Today the film was officially given the go ahead, along with more casting. Read on for the story.
U.K. indie shingle Celador Films is reuniting with French-owned and U.K.-based Pathe on a sequel to low-budget boxoffice hit "The Descent."
The Neil Marshall horror flick claimed $57 million at the boxoffice, a sizable return on the original investment on a movie budgeted at less than $10 million.
Produced by Marshall and Christian Colson, "Descent 2" marks the directorial debut for its predecessor's editor, Jon Harris.
Based on a script by James Watkins ("My Little Eye"), the $10 million sequel will shoot more than eight weeks on location in Scotland and at London's Ealing Studios.
The stars of the original film, Shauna MacDonald and Natalie Mendoza, will reprise their roles, alongside Gavan O'Herlihy, Joshua Dallas, Anna Skellern, Douglas Hodge and Krysten Cummings.
The script sees the survivor forced back into the system of caves she battled her way out of in the first film, in a bid to locate the rest of her group.
yeah, especially if you've seen the very original like it was before it was allowed to be released in theaters in the US, which was what the unrated director's cut was basically
I agree with BloodFlow about that Mendoza girl - I'd eat her like a plate of sushi. As far as the sequel itself is concerned; I think they are already starting off on the wrong foot with that lame concept. But I will see it just because of Mendoza. Damn she hot!
I third Mendoza! Yowza!! But, I agree, they are basing this movie off of the treatment, which seems like it could've been a Sci-Fi Channel original movie.
Technically neither version of the original showed both of them dying... so it could still work with the director's cut. Either way... if I don't care for the film I'll just pretend it never happened... just like with Hall8ween: Resurrection... and countless other movies that don't exist to me.
I personally can't wait for the sequel! I'm so psyched both Shauna Macdonald and Natalie Mendoza are returing. I'm seriously praying this movies turns out well...
Sounds very logical, I want to see Juno escaping certain death and its subsequent meeting with Sarah, face to face. I'm so thrilled!
