We broke the news that JJ Abrams' Bad Robot was attacking the remake to the Swedish vampire flick Let the Right One In a few weeks ago, only it looks as if things have changed. We received word this afternoon that Hammer Films has officially acquired the remake rights. No word on whether it'll be a feature film or an online series (like Beyond the Rave), but we'll keep you posted when we hear more. The original played at this past weekend's Tribeca Film Festival and will hit DVD later this year from Magnet Releasing (Magnolia Pictures). In the film Oscar, an overlooked and bullied boy, finds love and revenge through Eli, a beautiful but peculiar girl who turns out to be a vampire.
Hey, now, what was it Hammer was famous for?
Doing the very first adaptations of Dracula, Frankenstein, Phantom of the Opera, Sherlock Holmes, or the Mummy?
I think not.
Fuck me! If this amazing novel/foreign film get turned into a fucking INTERNET SERIES I'm gonna slit some fucking throats!!! This was 10x better than any other shitty vamp flick like Underworld and the Twilight books!! This deserves better!!
This can't be happening. Does "every" decent/great foreign have to be remade? Can't domestic filmakers simply draw inspiration and education from the great films they see? There are good new ideas out there. There are so many writers out there (like myself) who are busting our asses only to get shit on without a second glance, and when we get home from waiting tables or making submarine sandwiches, we have to find out that project after project has shot us down in favor of yet another remake or shitty knock-off. These people simply refuse to see how much better their money could be spent. You're turning the horror genre into little more than a novelty and it's embarassing and infuriating.
stop the remake and promote the original, sign the petition and maybe we can make ourselves heard:
