We caught wind this evening of a pretty interesting horror project from Monterrey Picture Entertainment entitled Escape of the Living Dead. John Russo, co-creator of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, wrote the script and is attached to direct the official sequel to Romero's classic '68 zombie flick. Joe Majestic, Sam Sherman will co-produce with Russ Streiner, producer of the original NOTLD. The official sequel will star Tony Todd (Candy Man, Final Destination), Gunnar Hansen (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Amber Stevens and Kristina Klebe (Halloween). No other details were revealed. Watch this spot for more soon.
I thought Return of the Living Dead was meants as Russo's sequel to Night of the Living Dead. Still, as long as its not from the people that gave us Return of the Living Dead 4 and 5 or the remake of Day of the Dead, I'm happy.
i was wondering that, too, BrotherJustin, about the title. the living dead are trying to escape...from.....? also, i thought Dawn of the Dead was the sequel to Night?
Russo wrote the RotLD book but wasn't involved in the movie. I'm assuming this is the same story that was released as a comic by Avatar a couple years ago. I didn't read it because I hate most art on Avatar comics, but I'm kinda interested.
Interesting... I thought that Dawn of the Dead was the official sequel. Also, is Romero going to be attached to this at all? I was unaware that this guy co-created it with Romero. I guess that makes me a bad horror fan.
I always thought the 'Living Dead' were the survivors. Since they are pretty much going to die but they are still among the living. Also in later movies they did not call them 'Living Dead' just 'Dead'.
Dawn isn't an official sequel. Each of the three original Dead flicks are their own movies, none are directly related to one another. And after Night, Russo and Romero parted ways and gave each other the right to make more dead movies. Romero did Dawn and Russo wrote a serious sequel in Return. But Dan O Banon who directed Return didn't want to step on Romeros toes so they altered it to be a sort of spoof on the whole thing. This can all be heard in the Return commentary :P
That's really interesting, I never knew that Return started life as a sequel to Night. This new project sounds promising but we'll have to wait and see. Zombie films have been pretty dissapointing recently...
I seem to remember Russo's "official sequel" coming out in novel form in the early 80s.
It was a decent book and captured the gloom and doom of the original.
He must be broke.....
awesome! but does it have anything to do with the zombie comic Escape of the Living Dead? I hope so! Here is a link:

Zombie movies are becoming a trend again. Hopefully it turns out great.
