Arlen Escarpeta (We Are Marshall, The Ten) is set to topline Platinum Dunes' Friday the 13th alongside Jared Padalecki, Derek Mears, Amanda Righetti, Danielle Panabaker, Aaron Yoo, Travis Van Winkle, Willa Ford, Nick Mennell, Jonathan Sadowski and Nana Visitor. Filming has already begin in Austin, Texas for a February 13, 2009 release. The remake, which is being directed by Marcus Nispel (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) will focus on Jason Voorhees -- who will wear the mask and kill -- and keep the famous setting of Crystal Lake.

so he's the main star? honestly i got no complaints, though i was very opposed to the whole idea of remaking this, but i am slowly warming up to it, then again there was Halloween.

Arlen is one of the leads. He plays the role of Lawrence, one of the characters of the main 7 kids.. The sidekick of Chumbler.

Meh, not all remakes suck. As for most recently, Snyder's Dawn of the Dead was decent, Aja's The Hills Have Eyes, and Verbrinski's (spelling?) The Ring. I thought all of these films did a decent job. However, yes, 90% of remakes range from disappointing to absolutely dreadful.

Agreed TheDeadMayTasteBad, not all the remakes are bad. This one looks very good. Let hope for some teaser soon.

It's kinda hard to screw up a friday the 13th movie that features a bunch of kids at crystal lake (Manhattan-FVJ can all be argued as good or bad). But if anyone can mess it up it will be Nispel. TCM remake was ok, but was a waste really compared to the original. For the record I am a huge Friday fan and I am looking forward to this film, but I know not to get my hopes up.

I'm really hoping they avoid the stereotypical "black" character who spouts off annoying one liners. Hopefully they actually wrote him as a CHARACTER, not a color.

Yeah...... this sucks for black people everywhere if they're not like unlce ruckus from boondocks....damn they just have to kill the black guy

Why does the black guy always die first? Why does the black guy have to die at all? How about this instead; since the cast is all attractive young people they should all just have an orgy (an X rated orgy of course)for the first three fourths of the movie and then kill each other (in very graphic and gory detail) with heavy lawn furniture in the end - except the black guy lives just for shits and giggles. You have to admit that you would want to watch a movie like this. I'm a white person and I approve this message.

I just thought of something else. How about Jason vs the Black Devil Doll. Now there's a fucking movie........

According to CHUD's RUSS FISCHER, the screenplay for the remake of Friday the 13th, written by Damian Shannon & Mark Swift (Freddy vs Jason), is complete, meaning director Marcus Nispel (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) can get to work on the film, even during the WGA strike, in preparation for the start of principal photography in Austin, Texas, on February 11. Debates have raged among slasher fans on the Web over how the production could be a remake of the first Friday and still feature the iconic Jason Voorhees as its antagonist, as reported, since his MOTHER was the killer in the original flick. In an attempt to resolve this, DEVIN FARACI questioned producers Andrew Form & Brad Fuller (The Hitcher), and ended up with more than he expected. "As a die-hard fan of the series," Faraci wrote, "I have to say that I like what I am hearing." The new Friday the 13th opens on five twenty-somethings, out in the woods, who stumble upon the deserted Camp Crystal Lake. Around the campfire that night, the "technologically inclined" (aka "dweeby") Wade regales "his crew" with the legend of Jason Voorhees, the Crystal Lake killer. Following storytime, "Pretty and strong" Whitney, who "has the smarts and the will to survive in the most desperate of circumstances," wanders off with boyfriend and "really nice guy" Mike. They find an old cabin, the furnishings of which include a bed that's decorated with the carved name "Jason," and with the head of Jason's mom. Enter the hockey-mask-wearing man himself--no sense waiting until Part 3 of the reboot before donning the famous headware. Before you can say "ch-ch-ch-ha-ha-ha," Mr. Voorhees has introduced the supporting players to his favorite cutting tools, grabbed "Survivor Girl" Whitney, and all before the opening titles. The script, which shifts into a rehash of the first four chapters of the original series, takes pains (no pun intended) to stress that Jason is not supernatural, as presented in Jason Goes To Hell, but rather a human being who's built a series of hidden tunnels under the woods and camp, allowing the sneaky fellow to appear at odd times and surprise his new friends. And those friends--with names like Clay, Trent, Jenna, Chelsea and Bree--are your typical assortment of horror movie stereotypes. According to the casting breakdown, they're all in their twenties (of course), and they're all caucasian...except for Lawrence, who is "black, and funny as hell," as the token African-American character must be. But Lawrence's sense of humor couldn't possibly hold a candle to that of Chumbler, who is "a little chubby" and has a "cool chin beard," because the production is asking that casting agents "please submit your funniest character actors."

He's black and funny as hell, so is the Asain guy Chumbler- Who was original described as looking like a Harry Knowles clone. God this movie is gonna rule. Bahahahahaha

Thought this is looking good, I still can't get over the names. Those are some hideously WHITE names, I don't mean normal guy names. John, Jim, Bob, Keith, Alex, Chris, Annie, Liz, those are fine names. The names of the characters in this movie are VERY Laguna Beach-esque. They are only missing a Brad, a Chad, a Biff and a Brittany. So freaking stereotypical, it's almost sickening. Just like if they were making a horror movie with college students Vegans living in studio apartments and hanging out at coffee bars, you know one chick will be named Skye and she'd love Sarah McLaughlin. And you'd know there'd be at least ONE white guy with dreadlocks and a goatee. Stereotypes are annoying.

I dont care if they r black white green or blue as long as they all die one by one. that is all
