Last week SpookyDan had the chance to interview Lizzy Caplan, star of Paramount Pictures' Cloverfield, which arrives on DVD everywhere this Tuesday. I told Spooky to hit her hard and drill her to death to try and get some information on this super secret franchise. He did a fantastic job, but she took the punches and gave us nothing. Read on for the bout...
I spoke to Lizzy Caplan the other day about her work in CLOVERFIELD, and some upcoming projects. You may remember her from the giant monster movie as the hot sarcastic and funny chick who steals the movie. When I hit her with the hard questions, took the blows and revealed nothing... be warned, spoilers ahead!
Hard hitting question #1: What falls in the water at the end of the film?
Lizzy Caplan: I don’t know the answer. I have no idea. Its one of those things where you say, did you see that? Do you know what it means…we know we are JJ Abrams and friends, but the truth is I have no idea. Maybe you will find out in the many many sequels!
Hard hitting question #2: What do you know about the sequels?
Lizzy Caplan: I know nothing about that either, I don’t know who is involved, but because I perish in the end of the first one, I am completely out of the loop.
Hard hitting question #3: You have the best death scene, do you explode are you shot, what happened behind those white walls?
Lizzy Caplan: That was a big ol’ explosion from the gut. If you pay attention to the first past of the triage, you see a guy coming through with his stomach all exploded out on a gurney. So yep, I exploded.
Hard hitting question #4: How was Cloverfield unique compared to other films you have worked on?
Lizzy Caplan: It was COMPLETELY different from every thing I have ever done. It’s the first action film; we did 50 takes on everything, not sticking to the script. It was totally fun.
Hard Hitting question #5: what it hard for you to be working against the green screen?
Lizzy Caplan: For the most part, if you had a monster creature it wouldn’t be nearly as cool as what you would come up with in your head. But the whole Brooklyn Bridge scene was weird; it was just a giant green room, just a strange football stage size warehouse all green with 200 extras walking back and fourth all day. For the most part, I think it’s better than puppets. There is a time and place for puppets, just not very scary to work with, I do respect puppets.
Hard Hitting question #5: What’s next for you?
Lizzy Caplan: Is it Friday already, wow! Yeah on Monday I start shooting the first of five episode I of Alan Balls Vampire series True Blood, it comes out this fall. I don’t know hat I can and cant say about it since I have been JJ Abrams brainwashed.. I will just say I am playing something, on this show that is super dark! And if your into Vampires, and who isn’t…Vampires and Puppets who doesn’t love em? Oh and TJ Miller (of Cloverfield as well) and I made a short film together called Succesful Alcoholics, it should be online someday, but its being edited right now, so I don’t really know when it will be finished.
Hard Hitting question #6: Are you a big fan of horror, and blood and guts?
Lizzy Caplan: I am a big fan of blood and guts. Wait are you talking about in films? Because I am only into blood and guts, when it’s in front of me in a human way. That’s the truth, you can go ahead and post that! Monsters don’t exist…spleens do…real human spleens, with blood.
Check out CLOVERFIELD on DVD with loads of extras on April 22nd!
