Jason Voorhees Sculpt Seen! Producer Talks New Look!

Two weeks ago I got a sneak peak at the brand new Jason Voorhees. Masked and unmasked... I saw the real deal, photos of the actual sculpt they're using to model Derek Mears, the latest to step into Jason's boots in Platinum Dunes' Friday the 13th. You can read all about it inside and see what producer Brad Fuller had to say about the evolution of the iconic character.

Once again I can't go into much detail on what I saw, but let me just say that fans will be happy to know that Jason's hockey mask will not disappoint. It looks slighty different and it's very menacing. Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller tells us, "It's such an iconic mask that you don't want to mess with it too much."

Fuller also had a pretty hilarious story about the FX designer who had a little airport trouble. "The designer carries the mask from LA in a steel case, takes it to the airport. [Airport security] runs it through and it looks like a hockey mask - and they say 'Were going to have to take you in the back.' When they get in the back they ask him 'Is that Jason Voorhees' mask?!' They pretty much flipped out asking to take photos with it, which obviously they couldn't."

In addition to seeing the new mask, we got the first look at the man beneath the mask. It looks great, and fans of the franchise will be happy with what Nispel and the guys at Platinum Dunes are doing with the character. "We tried to update it with little things - I dont want to give it away," Fuller tells us. "When people see him, they're wont be a doubt that's it Jason'."

You know, despite everyone else saying the TCM remake sucked, I thought it was fantastic. I have every bit of faith in Nispel and Platinum Dunes to make this one just as good, if not better, then the TCM remake. I'm pretty stoked about this.

Take a cell phone pic next time... something.. anything! I hope they didn't change the mask too much.

I'm getting excited about this remake. It sounds like they at least have good intentions and seem to be heading in a decent direction.

I have reservations, but anything has to be better than a sequel like F-13: JTM. Hoping for the best.

It's great to hear that they're not messing with it too much but still making an effort to make his general look more menacing. I imagine he'll be larger, a bit more hunched and filthy. I reckon he'll be covered in algae and that his mask will look tatty and yellowed. Either way I think this can only be a step up for the franchise.

An entirely new mask. Shit... You know every film except X used the same damn mask. Many fans including myself expected too see the classic mask return once more. The writers even claimed to another source that it would and it would be a pristine undamaged version of the mask. Looking exactly as it did in Friday the 13th part 3. Well so much for that, and again BD gives up a report that doesn't say shit on this movie. What good are you. The only bit we can pull from you lame report is that the mask is not a copy of the original one used through out the series (minus X) well thanks a lot BD. You ND clause gives us nothing in return. Heres to hoping a spy gets an image of Derek in full regal soon. Cause BD ain't giving us shit for news! Very sad to hear the mask is a new sculpt. I love the original sculpt that was used through out the films. I hate the look in X

The word "Menacing" used in regards too describe the masks overall look worries me... The original mask is a blank slate. It's not supposed to have furrowed brows or and evil look about it. You read your own fear into it. If they enhanced the masks look too make it look like it's pissed off. Then that sucks!!!

One question, Does the mask have the battle scars from the other movies?

Hey PEOPLE, Listen up, Markus Nispel didn't WRITE the TCM remake, he directed it! He did not write the F13th remake either, somebody else did! I think Nispel did a decent job directing the horribly written TCM remake which sucks balls, but that's not his fault because he didn't write it! Lets hope these F13 writers have written some good shit for Nispel to direct... am I right?

MFCMF... I fully, fully, fully agree with you on this. Nispel did such an awesome job with the remake of Texas Chainsaw but I thought that since Michael Bay didn't directed it but produced it, I feel that Mr. Nispel tried to directed it like a Michael Bay film. So, yeah, it was filmed by Mr. Nispel but it looks like a Michael Bay feature. With Platinum Dunes producing remakes for The Birds, Friday The 13th and holy shit dude, fucking A Nightmare On Elm Street... they are on the right track on making the remakes a reality. I think it would be awesome if Platinum Dunes would remake Poltergeist... make a "PG" movie a hard "R" and that would be a dream come true.

I sure hope the look of the mask doesn't change much in the franchise. Still, I can't wait until this movies hits theatres!

thephantomk, pull your dick outta your ass bud. This is where you place comments about the article. Not bash BD. Where are your articles? Until you leave the front of your computer screen and get out there and work the field, you should button your little lip and appreciate the news we get. Loser... This news is promising. I'm guessing it will be a cross between Jason in 2 and 3&4. And as for the mask, I'm assuming it's the same and hasn't been changed anymore then the Myers mask was for the remake, which was virtually the same anyways. Thanks for the news. I love the build up hype to the movie. Waiting anxiously for the next bit of news, whatever it may be. I remember sneaking onto the computers at school to read the latest JX news. I love all this :)...

I have a gut feeling about this one, and it's a good one! I haven't seen a real 'Friday The 13th' since 'Final Chapter' - in 1984! A long time to wait and I think it will be worth it. I too liked the 'TCM' remake, while not a patch on Tobe Hooper's original, it fucking rocked! This has the potential to be even better because there is so much untapped mythology with the Friday films; Elias Voorhees anyone? Also bring back the slim, running, man-child, retard Jason; a truly terrifying horror villian! Not a stupid, hulking, super-powered zombie! Oh yeah, want to see realistic kills with great special make-up effects again! This is what made the first four Friday's so close to being the nearest you could get to exploitation cinema released by a major Hollywood studio.

Everything has sounded great up until this new info. Dunes has made it clear that this is not a remake. It's sort've a "Mid-Quel" taking place somewhere between 3-4. So if that's the case then why are they messing with the mask, just to add their own twist. They would gain more credibility by bringing back the "Original" part 3 mask. There is so much potential for this to be one of the best Friday's, because of the return to the "Classic" look, but I knew they would find a way to fuck it up.

Well, maybe its becuase I'm not a Friday the 13th fan or something, but I don't understand the bitching over something so simple as the mask. It's still a hockey mask, its just a slightly different spin on it (or at least thats what it sounds like). Then again, when it comes to messin' around with Alien, Predator, or Termiantor, I throw a bitch- fit about every little detail Hollywood manages to butcher.

In case we have forgotten - Jason's mother was the killer in the original Friday the 13th. There have been dozens of sequels with that stupid hockey mask, and Jason for that matter. It was a cool twist in the original that the kiiler was a big women - they should do that again. I mean, what isn't scarier than a big, ugly, crazy woman?

FunnyMike. I don't make personal attacks on members here, and you don't know me from adam. This movie will suck. Derek Mears is the only good thing in it. I know him, he's always wanted to do a friday film. At anyrate go fuck yourself. And BD is in this production companies pocket. What kind of annoucement is this! They tell us that they got to see something they are not allowed too describe. Fuck that. If AICN saw this at least we would know what they saw. They would describe well enough for us too visualize it. You people who think otherwise and live for this piece of shit will be sorry about it in the end. Lame Bitch. Oh god don;t insult BD. God forbid you say something is rotten in demark when the smell is overpowering!

This doesn't sound like earth shattering bad news, so I don't understand all the complaints. The mask was usually a little different from sequel to sequel, or a at least between a couple movies. And I trust Mr. D's word on this. Would you rather he had a burlap bag on his head again?

I'm not to worried about the mask. That's something that has changed in each installment. As long as it looks like a hockey mask, even if it has a couple more ridges, I'm game! What I'm worried about is his REAL face. I desperately hope they don't opt for Mear's real face(even though the dude IS freaky looking). Please let new Jason look all deformed with Picasso eyes and crooked teeth!

I can't wait to see this new Friday, to be honest I'm not worried about Jason's look of the mask, I'm mostly worried that they can't take advantage of the character and actually make him truely horrific to watch, and look at.

SplAtterDay
11:11am, April 29, 2008

I can't wait either. As long as it has Jason, Crystal Lake, I'm happy. My question.... if it's between 3 & 4 ; will it take place in the early 80's.... or are they going to modernize it ??
