While on the red carpet for Sony Screen Gems' Prom Night, SpookyDan chatted with director Nelson McCormick, who told us that he specifically shot the film for an R-rating knowing that he would be able to deliver the goods on the DVD. So if you are truly interested in seeing Prom Night… wait for DVD. My personal thought on this is that there won't be much more blood and that, shocking as it may sound, it doesn't really need it. A bad movie is a bad movie. The dance came in at the #1 spot at this past weekend's box office taking in over $20 million.
It really didn't matter if it was 'R' rated or not. What really mattered is if it was a good movie or not. Which, judging by the reviews, it clearly wasn't. So, fuck this stupid movie already. If I rented this movie from Blockbuster and shot a load on it would that all of a sudden make it 'X' rated? NO! So fuck this movie with a spiked strap-on already.
IF a Director wants a certain movie made, he/she HAS to find backing (money) to make it. Unless they're wealthy enough to go it alone, which most can't (even Mel Gibson had to finance Passion on his own /and made a killing of personal profit)
So sometimes a Dir. has to cut a deal to get the movie made. If the suits think that only a pg-13 version will be profitable...then a PG13 film is made.
But I say Good Job to the Dir. who delivers the effort to film the movie the way he wants it to be and deliver said movie to the fans at least on dvd.
The SAD truth is that TOO many studio execs THINK that the safest bet is a PG13 flick :(
And commercial success like this past weekend doesn't make for a strong argument against.
How much did Doomsday make opening weekend?
And while far from perfect it was quite a bit of fun imo.
So genre fans NEED to vote with their dollars and skip the PG13 crap and send a message.
Problem is there's a shit load of youngsters out there under 17 who want a scary movie even if it's cut to pieces...
So what ya do?
Release the R on dvd I guess...
Regards2All
Adding MORE blood will not make it a better film then it already is.....this is just so FUCKING stupid...stupid companies....n I think this just makes him look like a coward
Are the directors crazy? They were first gonna put out an R? Such idiots that would make a great film. But even though I like R rated horrors I won't watch the unrated because I hated the film too much.
I've been trying very hard not to be so harsh and to stop using excessive profanity when I blog here. This here is a test............I can do it.
