Bloody-Disgusting has learned exclusively that 21-year-old Danielle Panabaker (Mr. Brooks, Sky High), Aaron Yoo (Disturbia, 21) and Travis Van Winkle (Transformers, Left in Darkness, Asylum) - all pictured inside - are the latest camp counselors to enroll at Camp Crystal Lake. They will join Jared Padalecki, Derek Mears and Amanda Righetti in Platinum Dunes' remake of Friday the 13th, which arrives in theaters Friday, February 13, 2009. The remake will focus on Jason Voorhees (Mears) -- who will wear the mask and kill -- and keep the famous setting of Crystal Lake. The film arrives from New Line Cinema, Paramount Pictures and MTV Films. The FRIDAY THE 13th franchise has grossed more than $300 million in the US alone.

I wasn't initially set on Danielle Panabaker, she looks VERY young in that pic. But I checked Wireimage, and saw a recent photo and now I think she looks fine.

So I am guessing Friday the 13th remake is going to be PG-13. With nothing that makes the original great. Like kick ass kills, boobs and bad acting.

I think this may be the best remake so far. honestly the original sucked big time. It's just a rip off of Halloween. The only thing dooming this is if the story is the same as the original. How bout you actually make the movie interesting instead of gory...right?

10:10pm, April 11, 2008

Friday The 13th was a rip off of Halloween? soooo, does that mean Pamela Voorhees was a Trekki too? seriously I don't see how it was a rip off of it, when it was done around the same time as Halloween, anywho, I know I got off subject, just needed to be said, only thing I can say for this remake is, I hope it doesn't just start up with Jason with his mask, it needs to show why he's killing, where he got the mask, etc. either way I'll definately go see it

Kaname Tousen
11:41pm, April 11, 2008

Yoo!!!!!! Solider boy j/k anyway pretty alright casting for kids. remember half of these kids die. I'm not sure how Friday the 13th(Which happens usually during the summer time of the years) and Halloween are considered even close to each other beside the fact the main character in most of the movies wears a mask which wasn't the case with the original or second Friday where it was first Jason's mom then Jason was wearing a burlap sack so I'm not sure how it was rip off

Kaname Tousen
11:44pm, April 11, 2008

Anyway if you remember in the late 70's and early 80's half the stuff in Friday the 13th was what the "bad kids" where doing I wouldn't be surprised if half these kids are hitting the bong

jasonlives1986
11:47pm, April 11, 2008

its not the casting that makes it a teeny bop movie like some others out there but how they go about making this movie. i just hope they stay away from that gritty look from tcm remake, its not the friday the 13th style so i hope this director can distinguish the differance between the two series.

lord_kode
12:59am, April 12, 2008

amen Kaname, and I agree completely, jasonlives, I'm hoping he doesn't try to make this look like a true story like with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre with fake footage ie Blair Witch Project, even though on the DVD for Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, in the special features, they even tell you that the whole series, even the first one, were all loosely based on the serial killer Edward Gein

jasonlives1986
1:06am, April 12, 2008

not only that, but the over all look and feel to the movie. it should be campy, but 80s like campy, not the bad kind. it should look like the first four did, esspecially 4. But there shooting in texas and though Ive never been, I just imagine lots of dry land and no lakes with trees and nice little wooded areas and such and I dont want that to be the overall vibe of this movie. Im confident the writers know exactly what we want after the FVJ movie with there 10 simple rules to follow in order to stay true to the series so Im sure that even if the series is being restarted with some new ways of going about it that they were smart enough to walk that line to please everyone.

Casting is pretty decent so far.

jkrouskop
8:52am, April 12, 2008

Panabaker's a decent actress, and definitely older than she looks in that still. So far, this is shaping up to be a pretty good cast of up and coming actors. Better still, when you look at some of the actors cast and the fact that it's Platinum Dunes, the odds favor an R-rating (and an unrated DVD version), with a fair amount of gore and nudity. I have a strange feeling that this one is going to hit big, despite the complaints of hardcore horror fans. It's coming out against minimal competition, and everything we've seen so far indicates that it will be on a par with the better F13 sequels - all of which made good money at the box-office.

horrorchick81
9:17am, April 12, 2008

this prob wont be rated r so now that the stupid teeny p bopers can o come and see this.......never heard of any of these three actors......shes pretty......only thing i ask for is that this is R and that RTHERE IS GORE BLOOD AND GUTS like the other friday the 13ths then i will see it....thats all i ask but since michael bay is gong to be doing it so fat chance of that they will prob. TAME IT DOWN....

lord_kode
10:49am, April 12, 2008

if it does end up not being rated R, then that defeats the entire purpose of a slasher film, it'd be no better than watching some tv horror movie on USA or whatever the fuck, some girl screams when the killer shows up, she gets stabbed in the gut while the camera focuses on her face, then cuts to the next screen, so yeah I agree with you on that, horrorchick, I'm also hoping for an R rating, the bloodier and gorier the better, and come on, gotta have Jason squeeze the fuck out of someone's head with his bare hands

i hope they make Jason scary again. (IMO) he hasn't been scary since part 5 (and that wasn't even Jason, technically). i keep seeing that people want it to be campy, but i don't see how campy can be scary. personally i hope it will be gritty like TCM remake. that remake made me uncomfortable and tense (something a good horror movie SHOULD do--sometimes).

Read the original Freddy Vs Jason final script. These guys can't write for shit!! What I think upset me the most was how inaccurate and unreal the machete and knife glove attacks were. The machete cuts stands of hair in one scene when the girl victim dodges the swipe. Bullshit! Then machete goes all the way through her into a tree and not only that it was tossed into the air before it did this. Granted I remember seeing this in the movie and thinking "Bullshit!" at the time. Freddy's glove goes all the way through Jason's skull from his eyes popping out on the otherside. Bullshit, Bullshit Bullshit! I hope the invent-a-kills are more grounded in reality. It's a staple of the franchise, but it would be nice too have believable death scenes. Looks like there might have been a little rewrite done to the screenplay. Now we have camp councilors. I wish there were more. I kinda like parts 2 layout. And then you toss in the kids who are hopefully all fucked up with mental and psychical disabilities... Still don't get the Supernatural/Nancy Drew bullshit, and the tunnels and explaining the monster needs to go "Bye, bye" Mears is the only thing that made me smile about this film so far. It's too bad B-D is so encroached into he pocket of Platinum Dunes- (They pretty much invited them in too see what all this was about made them sign a NDF and then promised them early information such as the casting info) Thanks too this We will never really get a honest response from them, and they wont leak any real stuff. Like the screenplay. We'll have to depend on another source for things like this. Even early images of Jason in full guise. Sucks when your favorite sites sell out and get inside. What happened to the rebels who stole information... Oh those days are long gone I fear. To give up the good you gotta smooze with the powers...

Halloweens just a rip off of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Halloween is the suburbanite version of TCM. The bad house, Bob and Jerry's scene mirror one another, Sally running to the gas station and Laurie running to the Doyle's house, The big mask reveal close up scenes feel similar, The bone room and Pam- The bodies and Laurie. You guys are high on your own bullshit. The first Friday was a good film it wanted to be the next Halloween- aka small budgeted horror film that grossed a good sum of money. It had a wonderful catch ending- you never saw the killer unlike Halloween- Friday was more like a Giallo flick. If I remember right the writer wanted nothing to do with part 2 because it seemed real fucking dumb too him to resurrect a dead character. He thought it was an insult to the original. I do too but Jason grows on you.. People who say Friday is a rip off of Halloween piss me off as much as the folks who say "The Thing" is a remake of "The Thing From Another World" which it is not. "The Thing" is a more faithful adaption of John W. Campbell Jr "Who Goes There?"

No one said "Campy" Dj Black. We want humorious commentary and behavior exchanged between the Councilors and and the kids. We want the asshole male camp councilor who treats the kids like shit when no one watching the cute virginal female camp councilors the fucked up mentally and psychically challenged kids- And no humor what-so-ever directed towards Jason "be it verbal or psychical" the campy people keep talking about are things like fart dick, pussy, a tard jokes coming out the mouths of the kids and councilors. the pranks they play on one another- they have to get back at the big shit mean male councilor dude the kids have to bond and it would be nice to see them take bets on who they could get some action from. Basically what a real camp experience is like only with Jason showing up at some point. The ideal setting Camptime in summer. This time with a large Assortment of Camp councilors and Kids the three actors listed up there are not enough I'm picturing a part 2 crowd for the adult councilors. If the kids there are disabled they need lots of people there too make sure all of these kids needs are met. So Dj black thats about as campy as people are talking about- no one is suggesting a Jason X vibe! the kills are supposed to be serious but creative, and believable. I was thinking the best way to bring Jason out-- Have two councilors sneak off into the woods too go fuck. The kids see this and they sneakily follow behind hoping too witness some action. they hide behind some bushes and watch the fuckfest go down. Jason shows up.. He kills the councilors screwing. The kids scream- giving up they're location. Jason attacks and kills two of them- The rest run back too the camp too tell the other councilors what happened. All of the councilors are stoned and drunk and having a party of they're own. This is sorta how the two councilors setup began- They were all partying and two of them decided to leave the party to get some outdoor action. At anyrate- No one believes the kids, but since 4 people are missing they head back out to the woods to search for them- the councilors promise severe punishment if this turns out to be another prank. (the kids pulled a previous prank on the big shit mean fuck male councilor earlier that day- maybe they put a snake in his clothing and it bit him, and he had to be rushed to the hospital- and thats how the councilors managed to get a party on because the other kid were punished and forced to stay in their cabin for the rest of the day, but one of them saw the two councilors sneaking off through the window) 3 Councilors take two kids with them they grab a few flashlights- they make the rest of the kids and other councilors stay at the campsite. We follow them as they travel out to the woods. It starts to rain. the group back at the campsite gets worried, when the others don't return. Suddenly the power cuts off. We all know what about to go down.

I've never been a huge fan of friday 13th movies. I just lump those movies in with the sequels of Halloween. The reason being is because although I really liked the halloween and friday 13th series of movies, to start with, they got so campy and so shit, that instead of cheering and hoping the victims survived, the actual mass murdering, serial, psychotic, demented anti-hero killers were exhalted and became anti-heroes. After the first movies in the franchises, the sequels were a matter of how the undead killers despatched of their victims, rather than whom was strong enough to face these demonic blood seekers. So, hence-forth, it was the similar death scenes, in the similar style, of the similar looking victims. The teenage girls were always the ones whom stood the greatest chance of survival against the huge, physicalities of pure evil, due to many different reasons. So, I hope this movie brings something different and new to the old franchise of friday the 13th and sparks fresh, new interest in an already over developed market of big, un-dead, serial killers.

I want you guys to think about the better Fridays for a moment. and Yes I'm standing on a soapbox, because I'm tired of all these remakes destroying the charisma of the original films. I don't so much see this film as a remake- It's more like a relaunch. The camp like setting is the one thing the Friday fans have been shafted on with the previous 3 films. We went to NY to hell and then space. So a lot of us Friday fans want to return to that ideal setting that pretty much is exactly what the first four films delivered on. Now lets talk about the characters and traits. You have brief nudity from the female, you have the loser and or loser type guys who want some action. it rains the power cuts out theres a character who warns them of the curse, someone gets tossed through a window and the female lead is always near the window when that happens. Too the point with a gaggle of kids with disabilities you have covered the Loser-type bases. They are coming of age kids who want to get laid. Maybe theres a girl in this group of disables that one of the kids likes, maybe she is blind so her disability doesn't affect how she looks or acts- in such a manner that the audience can't accept the crush on of the other disabled kids has on her. the big shit mean fucking male councilor is basically Bill Paxton's Chet in weird science. He acts real friendly too the kids even more so when the other girl councilors are around. Then he takes them for a hike or a canoe adventure, and his real side comes out, and he tortures these poor kids. I can't think of how he does it but i know he does it when he knows it's just him and them... So a pact is developed between the kids that no matter what they will get him back. One of the kids in the opening takes bets on getting some action from one of the hot female camp councilors. He fakes his own drowning and makes out with her, yeah we've seen it but the first Friday capitalized on it as well. We know this guy he is the rebel he has the cigarettes, the firecrackers, the porno mags and the switchblade comb- which you think is a real knife when he pull it on you. And no matter what his disability is he thinks he cool as shit, and you think so too. then you have the Virginal female camp councilor the one who thought this would be a learning experience. She gets a huge crush on the most friendly cool male councilor there, and her gaol is too have some magic happen. To get her first real moment, but maybe just maybe theres another chick councilor who's a total rich daddy got it all for me bitch who knows all of this- and in turn she has her own plans to humiliate her and take this guy for herself. Theres so much that could be in this film. It could really be one hell of a ride, but I fear it's not even gonna come close to the tone of the original nor will it capitalize on ideas like the above.. Padalecki is still the lead. So we know for certain that it isn't about a group of kids or councilors- He is listed as an investigator who goes out there too find out what happened to someone, and he is paired with a woman- so it proabably happened to someone she knows. I'm pissed that it isn't about a group of kid and councilors. That all those character types are ignored. I always thought part 6 cheated us on that. I want a goonie's / monster squad like experience. I picture a really cool movie in my head that plays in the same sandbox of the original 4 films, and I really don't think we are going to get that with this film.

"thephantomk" Friday is a rip off plain and simple. a shit filled idea taken from one that blew the box office and viewers away. It's a biz first then a media. "How can we make money? Well this idea worked and people seem to like it but we have to change it up so people will feed into it. Nick402
1:41pm, April 13, 2008

Well, I don't have too much of a problem with this, because it is seeming to be a remake in name only. It looks like it is shaping up to be just like another sequel, but is being referreed to as a remake. But while I hate the leading lady's (Amanda Righetti) acting talents, the rest of the cast is shaping up quite nicely. And B-D, you really need to work on your picture selection. Danielle Panabaker is freakin hot now, but that pic is from when she was like...12.

1:45pm, April 13, 2008

uhm first off,t hat was Friday The 13th part 2, it was Pamela in the first one, so unless Michael was his own mother, I don't see how it was a rip off, but ok buddy

thephantomk
2:44pm, April 13, 2008

Pamela story is just that' A backstory told around a campfire... Some of you guys don't seem to understand how they will execute this film. They will explain Pam and Jason's backstory around a campfire somewhere in the beginning with some re filmed flashback stuff showing her killing of a gaggle of councilors and Jason drowning as a child. And they will end it with something along the lines of "When they found the last survivor she was beyond crazy- She claimed too have killed Jason in an abandoned cabin, but they never found the body" See how simple that is.... They are making a film that sorta fits into the time frame of the earlier films. They explain the "WHY" They just don't repeat it as it occurred, and now your back at square one with Jason still alive out there in the woods looks for revenge. So stop asking dumb questions like "I thought his Mother was the Killer in Part 1....." That base is covered. She was and she still is but now her reign of terror is reduced to a scary campfire tale.

I'm shocked at how many people are convinced that this movie is going to be awful. No one's going to know until it's finished so everyone just calm down. My thoughts are: 1) I don't think the cast look that young. 2) This remake won't damage the series, which in my opinion really isn't all it's cracked up to be anyway. 3) I really liked the TCM remake and if this is anything like it I'll be happy. 4) Movies like this are a lot better than some of the crap that was coming out ten years ago.

I beleive Horrorhed85. Everybody on here thinks they're experts on horror just because they bitch about every remake and everything happening in horror is going downhill just because its new. Before Texas Chainsaw in '73 it was the time of fucking dracula and frankenstien and those fucking dreamy movies. So Tobe Hooper tried to establish a potential new style for horror. After Texas Chainsaw came in 1973, and then came Halloween in 1978 followed by Fiday The 13th in 1980 and Freddy in 1983. Slasher was born. Now people are bitching abour remakes. Horrorhed stated that it doesnt effect the original and he's right. Fuck off if you dont like it, and for the record TCM and Halloween remakes were amazing. Everything coming out today isn't shit either. Take a look at a director by the name of Adam Green establishing himself with amazing slasher film (HATCHET, 2007). Another good film a little different (SPIRAL,2007). These actors look great, and Aaron Yoo is a good actor from what I saw in disturbia. And for you fucking retards who think Friday is a rip off of Halloween fuck you! Just because they have similiar motives," Kill Everyone, and don't show my face" doesnt make it a rip-off. Those motives are what made our beloved slasher genre. How would you feel if there was just Jason and not Micheal or Freddy or leatherface or if worse comes to worse Chucky. Poeple have different tastes. This film looks to be as amazing as TCM and Halloween remakes so, well just what happends and unlike most poeple have a good attitude going in to this.

Danielle's a good actress, though I would've hoped she'd star as Nancy in the NOES remake. Her or Ellen Page, who can DEFINATELY pull off Nancy. And as for age, those three fit the bill if you want to portray REALISTIC camp councelors. As someone stated, I'd rather have these kids play 21-year olds than, say, actors and actresses in their 30s. It's like, how Craven's casting REAL teens in his new horror movie, not 20-somethings, like in Prom Night. If you want the real sincerity of those characters, casting actors and actresses that ARE that age fits the best.

" Halloween remakes were amazing." Buddy that movie was the biggest piece of shit ever. Rob Zombie is such a hack.

Lame. You need a cast of unknowns the director doesn't mind doing fucked up shit to.

I have a feeling that this movie is doomed from the get-go. Which is really kind of sad, when it has the potential of being as good of a remake as "The Hills Have Eyes".

What is funny about the entire Halloween vs. F13 franchise is... Halloween is obviously a superior film, and a classic. HOWEVER the rest of the Halloween franchise has been either boring, crappy, or flat out dumb. F13 1-4 are better then any sequel that Halloween has released. Also the 4th F13 movie is the best in the franchise, and trumps all but the original Halloween. Even the zombie Jason films are decent. I really enjoyed F13p7 and F13p8. I didn't care all that much for part6 and i hated part 9 and jason in space garbage. However the F13 franchise has produced far more sequels that I have enjoyed over Halloween. Halloween is like the Matrix. The original was so insanely good it created a great burden for a follow up. There has never been a good follow up to truly stand up to the original. However F13p3 and 4 are superior to the original F13, with F13p4 being nothing short of a master piece.

I think the true horror that the all of the new "re-makes" "re-inventions" "Re-whatever they want to call it" is fact that the hacks in Hollywood are so drained for fresh material that they are racing at the chance to grab up either old 80's movies or some foreign gem and throw together some half ass attempt at a "blockbuster". The trend is to package these new movies for kids, and the doom of a PG-13 rating is the scare that really lurks in the shadows of this production. After all, MTV is involved in the project, and we have all seen the slop they have flooded the market with over the years. But then, maybe I am wrong, maybe this will be a modern icon movie that will re-define horror as we know it.
