After years and years and millions of dollars, the adaptation of the giant shark movie MEG hit some murky waters. New Line Cinema lost the property and it was said to be "dead in the water", with a giant pun intended. Today a lengthy article was posted on the LA Times that not only dives into the insane history of the film's development, but also gives us hope that maybe one day we will see this albino prehistoric beast in theaters. Read on for the skinny.
In recent weeks, however, a new financier has stepped forward with plans to finally bring "Meg" to the big screen, the LA Times writes. Apelles Publishing Inc. of Abington, Va., has optioned the rights from Alten with veteran Hollywood producers Lawrence Gordon ("Die Hard") and Lloyd Levin ("Boogie Nights"), along with Virginia-based film financing consultant Belle Avery, set to produce. Gordon and Levin have a track record of taking projects put in turnaround at one studio and successfully setting them up at another, the latest examples being "Watchmen" at Warner Bros. and "Hellboy II: The Golden Army" at Universal.

The story of MEG features a 80-foot-long prehistoric shark -- scientifically known as Carcharodon megalodon and believed by some to be an ancestor of the great white shark -- which terrorizes the California coast. Two men from opposite points of view are forced to come together to neutralize the threat.
Could be cool, it also has a cool looking poster. But they need to change the name though. Meg is the name of the daughter on Family Guy. It's just hard to get past that.
The book was lame, but I'm all for big-production shark movies. 'Deep Blue Sea' was a turd, but I've been championing for another 'Jaws' for years now. If this is the closest I can get, I'll take it... unles Jan De Bont is directing, to which I will blow up Sea World instead.
what if this gets made and everyone piles into the theaters to see an awesome shark movie but then we find out its about MEG griffin eating boats and people and stuff.
I've seen different stills on Steve Alten's website, and all I can say is that if some of these were used as a basis for effects and whatnot, this movie would be off the hook (no pun intended).
I've been waiting patiently for this movie to come out. The last few megaladon movies have been jokes.
been waiting a loong time since i first heard about this moie. i hope that this finally gets off the ground and gets made! want to see another shark movie. besides deep blue sea. tired of all the REMAKE BS.
I don't see how this is scary the damn sharks teeth are like a foot long. Really it's just going to swallow people whole. I read a brief synop of the book it sounded lame.
This could be a great summer blockbuster/popcorn flick. I gave up on this being made a year ago but hopefully if it ever sees the light of day, it will be done right. At this point I would just like to see Hells Aquarium released. I know Alten wanted to release the new book and film at the same time but that just isnt going to happen.
The book was cool, done the right way, this one could be a blast. Especially the scenes in the trench, could get scary as hell, considering it´s so damn dark down there. I very much hope they´ll get it done, and done right.
