Brittany Snow Snubs Horror Websites on 'Prom Night' Red Carpet
Thursday, April 10, 2008

Last night we shipped B-D reporter SpookyDan off to cover the red carpet premiere of Sony Screen Gems' Prom Night remake. You guys know how we feel about the film, but yet there we were, standing on the red carpet, willing to chat with these people just for the readers who are dying to see this PG-13 film. Only something INSANE happened - the horror websites were all snubbed by leading lady Brittany Snow! Read on for pics from the red carpet and for a bit from Mr. Spooky.

Last night I rocked the red carpet premiere of Screen Gems' PROM NIGHT. In truth I am very intrigued by the marketing and the PG-13 nature of the film, but my expectations were decidedly low before I saw the film. Prom Night stars Brittany Snow, that girl next door looking chick that used to be on American Dreams, and went on to do a few films like John Tucker Must Die and Hairspray. Now I know as well as you do that she is the lead in the film and certainly commands a multi million dollar film opening, but the fact is that she is still has a long way to go before she becomes a house-hold name. My point to this is that she snubbed yours truly AND other websites on the carpet. They ushered her right past us as her handlers tried to get her inside the theater to see the film, and if that actually happened I wouldn’t gripe about it. But then as soon as she passed up the “horror” press spots, she stopped to talk to the next bunch of press, then went to the entrance and hung out for another 5 minutes before even entering the building.

We your humble (or not so humble) servants are at each and every event to cover it so YOU our loyal readers can keep current with the goings on in the horror world. I love doing horror press, but any reader of Bloody-Disgusting will agree that Prom Night is not really a film for the hardcore horror fans. So the fact that we showed up and give the film press is enough reason to have the lead actress stop by and say a sentence or two about the film. I know I sound like I am whining, but come on, they confirmed that we would talk to her, and confirmed us spots to interview her, yet she doesn’t hold up her end of the deal by walking right past the horror sites. Honestly, would YOU want to cover the red carpet for this film? Neither did I, but it's part of the job, and I know that some people are interested in it, even if I personally am not. So whatever... here are some stills from the red carpet.

thats pretty lame. at least the director was smart enough to stop by. normally i'm not a fan of remakes. Nothing annoys me more than when some 13 yr old thinks(for example:)Prom Night is a brand new idea and never bother to learn its roots which 9x's out of 10 blows it away. I have no intention of seeing this, as far as im concerned i already did, it starred Sissy Spacek and it rocked! this chick is no Sissy n she should learn who her real loyal fanbase lies, that will be the key to her longevity.

Eh. Sounds like little miss brittany needs to do a little bit of growing up. Oh well. It's not like this crappy movie is gonna be any good anyway.

She didn't skip horror websites. Look at the very picture you posted of her, she's in the middle of talking with Horror.com, it says it on their microphone.

She was just afraid of being swept off her feet by Spooky Dan...

Who cares, she's an ugly twat with no talent.

2:52pm, April 10, 2008

Seriously, screw her. She just knows that this movie is going to BLOW, and doesn't want to hear about it from the genre fans whose faces she's spitting in by appearing in it.

3:17pm, April 10, 2008

This will probably come out a bit more offensive than I intend, so I apologize in advance...but honestly, she's a dainty Hollywood blond, surrounded by cameras and flashing lights, so she probably didn't care about anything other than how her makeup was holding up. But Dan, to get a girl like this to come running up...you MIGHT want to tone down the goth and eyeliner a bit for the interviews. I'm not trying to be an ass...just saying she was probably skittish of it. She obviously drifted towards the more conservative looking press members.

3:33pm, April 10, 2008

I don't blame her. The movie probably won't be very good, but look at how you all have treated the movie. I don't hold anything against her for giving you the cold shoulder.

Ok in protest I say we do not go see the film! Of course I wasn't going to anyway. But now I feel noble about it.

Fuck her and fuck her career. That's a good way to not get any work in the business by snubbing people that help earn the studios money. That cunt never really had a good career and probably never will.

3:57pm, April 10, 2008

Wow what to act immature over this. As if you guys even care? If you hate the film so much (without even seeing it) why did you even show up to talk to the actors and filmmakers who worked hard at making the film? And Brittany Snow was chatting to "Horror.com" so...obviously she didn't snub all horror websites. Big deal.

4:36pm, April 10, 2008

haha, thats funny. tell me, if you made a movie and bloody disgusting bashed it the whole production, calling it the least anticipated movie of 2008, the worst clips ever, would you stop and give them ur time?

jmacgrath
4:39pm, April 10, 2008

I agree with the last few people. All Bloody-Disgusting has done is bash this movie from the start, and now you're trying to turn things around saying how you showed up for "loyal readers", get a fucking life! I'd have skipped your shitty reporter too if I were her.

Saturdaythe13th
5:23pm, April 10, 2008

It is true, B-D.com, you guys are just looking for reasons to bash this film. You don't care about the film, and deep down you REALLY don't care about talking to Britney Snow, you're just pissed that she skipped you and DID talk to horror.com. This site (Bloody-Disgusting) is great for horror news, but you guys put way too much personal crap into some of your stories (such as claiming that Ellen Page dropped out of that new film because she thinks she's "too good for horror", and simply bashing Prom Night for being PG-13. We get it, it'd be better if it was rated R...but it's NOT. It's PG-13. So don't cover it. If you truly are covering it all your readers who are excited over it, as you claim, then why do you continually bash the movie? It seems like you are talking down to your readers then. "I'm bloody disgusting, and I know what good horror films are, but the readers don't, they're stupid. But to make them happy, I'll give them info about the film, and then tell them how stupid it all is."

I agree with most people who have commented. All this site does is tear apart this film and it hasn't even been released. Granted, I'm not looking foward to it but at the same time I'm not a horror film website. I would have given the cold shoulder as well.

Scream110
7:06pm, April 10, 2008

I somewhat don't find it surprising that Brittany ignored him. Givning him the cold shoulder, well, was a good thing in a way, but at the same time it was rude. B-D have bashed it from the start so I guess there's nothing good about it in your guys' minds. I'm just waiting for the 0/10 review someone is literally planning on posting... *sigh*

7:14pm, April 10, 2008

Is it me, or are the teenyboppers trying to defend Miss Brit. I mean, I might not agree with everything BD says, but they DID try to reach out to her at the very least. She didn't care. Also, like I said, I might not agree with BD(the whole reason WHY NOES NEEDS to be remade), but since I first seen the trailers and clips of Prom Night, I totally agreed with them. It's just more PG-13 cliche teenage crap. The whole, "This is the time of our lives" quote is sooo overplayed in these types of movies. I at IMDB, I hear little girls saying, "OMG, this movie looks AMAZING!!". I makes me wanna vomit outta my eyes. Go back to wrting fanfics about you and Kevin Jonas!

They had every right to bash the film from the start because it is going to be shit. I'm glad that a site doesn't praise and talk about how awesome a movie is, only to trash it when it's released.

Halloween_Night
8:32pm, April 10, 2008

I don't wanna hear it, its what you guys get, I like yall but its not yall job to bash films, stating your opinion is one thing, but to continue bashing the film is not cool, harray for brittany.

First of all, I will agree with many of your comments. I fully feel like a douche when I saw that Snow was being interviewed by Horror.com. YES, I was un-thrilled that she skipped us. My gripe is that she didn’t stop by, and then stood around for a while when we tried to flag her down. I do agree that BD has given the movie crap based on the comments and feelings of our readers, just look at this thread and you will see that. But in all fairness we are not the only outlet to bash the film based on its rating. A PG-13 film gets a wider release and has potential to reach a wider audience than an R rated film does. DVD will sell like crazy regardless of the rating. The director Nelson McCormick, told me that he specifically shot the film for an R rating knowing that he would be able to deliver the goods on the DVD. He is not a stupid man, he knows that WE want the harder version of the film, but cannot do that with the theatrical release. As I stated, I personally have been fascinated at the marketing of the film. The people behind this are not making this movie for hardcore horror audiences that want gruesome and bloody fare. They want the teenagers to see this movie as an event. I think that they have succeeded phenomenally with this. To be honest the film was about what you would expect, based on the trailers. To me Prom Night, like the past few PG-13 Horror thrillers like The Messengers, and Disturbia, serve as a gateway into horror for those teenagers who don’t want ultra violent films. Yet everyone likes the thrill of the scare! There will no doubt be people seeing this film and others like it, who will be inspired to go out and make films of their own. There have been a number of really good PG-13 films that are scary like The Others, Driftwood, and The Sixth Sense. I wanted to give this film the benefit of the doubt that this might be another “good one”. It in fact is more in line with the remake of Black Christmas, than it is like The Orphange. Brittany Snow does a fine job with her performance as do some others, but I did take issue with the overall film. Prom Night is competently made, yet to me, feels lacking in a truly emotional impact. In regards to the readers who wrote in about my look, or the fact that we bashed the film and that having any bearing on why she “snubbed” us; it’s a crazy job working on a red carpet for people on both sides of the ropes. As journalists we are all trying to get their attention, and as the celebrity, they try and stop for as many people as possible, some will always be missed. Maybe I was not aggressive enough when it came to getting her attention, maybe she really didn’t want to talk to the # 1 horror news site in the world because we bashed the film. Who knows? The film will have a huge opening and make a crapload of money this weekend and next year when the sequel is released we will be there at the premiere bringing you the news about it. SpookyDan

MrDisgusting
2:02am, April 11, 2008

Personally. I could give two sh-ts either way. I just thought it made for a good story, which has proven true with 50 comments and thousands of reads. It's no secret that I think Prom Night looks like the biggest pile of dog crap on the planet. If Brittany doesn't want to talk with us, who cares? It's her loss frankly, she could have spent the time explaining what type of movie Prom Night is and why some of you might like it despite our comments. But to bash Spooky you guys are going a little too far. Have a little respect.

Saturdaythe13th
3:20am, April 11, 2008

Actually, many of the 50 comments (if you read them) are here to say that they think the story is stupid... As far as you talking about bashing SpookyDan, yeah...bashing people is wrong... kind of like bashing an actress for not talking to the guys who have been bashing her movie... I actually do think that the new Prom Night looks awful, but I think you went way overboard with all the Prom Night bashing and this stupid story (which was proved false... it says she snubs horror sites, when she is seen CLEARLY speaking with horror.com)

J-Griff
5:02am, April 11, 2008

This article succeeded in doing one thing...I created a Bloody-Disgusting account just to tell you how offended I was by it...I can't believe any respectable journalist would post an entire article about about how he got miffed by an actress just because she isnt that jazzed about speaking to a grown man wearing black eyeliner...so shes not a fan of horror films and shes just doing it for the paycheck...ever hear of a guy named John Carpenter? He said the strictly paycheck actors were his favorite actors to work with...of course she didn't want to talk to Spooky Dan...he's like forty and he dresses like a high school goth, what the hell is wrong with you? it's the red carpet, if you're walking on it you can look like a douche bag. but if you're not an entertainer then grow up...But it was MrDisgustings rebuttal comment than really pissed me off (apparently he didn't read the part above the box where it says you're not supposed to comment on user comments)...so you post gossip articles just to inflame your readers? And where do you get off disrespecting your readers by telling them they are going to far by disagreeing with your staff writer? Excuse me? The reader is always right, without your readers Bloody-Disgusting is just another website and you two are just a couple more fanboy chumps with a website...you think they visit this sight for your yellow journalism? they want to find out the latest horror news. They're not here to be enthralled by your sixth grade grammar skills...my suggestion is that you post another article asking for forgiveness from your more forgiving readers, as for myself, I'll stick with Fango and Rue Morgue And bi BD a not so fond adieu. the news may be slower getting to me, but at least those of us who've actually gotten a girl to willingly take their clothes off for them won't be insulted with articles like "Megan Fox gets naked!!!" are you guys virgins or what? BTW if Platinum Dunes had made Prom Night you would have given it ten skulls...not trying to be a horror snob but anyone who writes a review stating Texas Chainsaw the Beginning would make hardcore horror fans cringe needs to have their card pulled...but I guess the guys and gals at PD gave you enough free access and happy smiles.

Horror.com probably gave the movie an honest and glowing review (read: sugarcoated and non-confrontational). Thats why they were granted an interview. I would have looked at the review on their site....but couldn't find one. Can anyone say crappy website. Sorry, please feel free to delete this post if you want to avoid any conflict with horror.com

10:41am, April 11, 2008

J-Griff - if you disliked Spooky Dan's reaction and his opinions then fair enough but getting personal about his appearance is out of order. It's no different than if he was black and you came on here mouthing off about how it's no wonder she didn't want to talk to a black man. Seriously, I think you should grow up if you can't state your opinion without resorting to petty insults. Furthermore, anyone who suggests a person should alter their appearance due to their age is brainwashed by society. People who DO alter their appearance to conform are either 'going through a phase' anyway, feel like they're forced to do so or just plain flaky. Respect to Dan for being genuine and being who he wants to be despite such ignorance. So he was overreacting and missed the horror.com. Fair enough to criticize that but don't get personal about his appearance as it's irrelevant. Telling him to grow is one thing but telling him to grow up because he dresses goth is just ignorance and discrimination. Also I'll never understand some horror fans who hate goths because virtually all goths love horror.

11:08am, April 11, 2008

Maybe if this site wasn't so biased and ignorant (you guys bash the Prom Night remake yet you hailed the Halloween remake like it was the second coming of Christ), she might have actually stopped to talk to you. I, personally, wouldn't talk to you either. No offense, but I fail to see too much difference between this site and all the other entertainment blogs on the internet. A real news website reports the news and keeps their opinions out of things. It's called journalism. Look it up.

As a very good friend of mine says in his review (http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view& ;friendID=267657107&blogID=376787940), PROM NIGHT is actually a reasonably effective "chick slasher flick". It doesn't break any new ground, and it will definitely underwhelm twenty- and thirtysomething fans of gorier, more traditional horror films. But it isn't for us hardcore folks. It's for teenage girls, and it's a hell of a lot smarter and better-acted than the first film in this new subgenre, the WHEN A STRANGER CALLS remake. It deliberately taps into that creepy feeling girls get when they realize they're being checked out by a leering, much older man - actually a fairly clever idea if you ask me. Stripping away the inherently male elements of the formula (gratuitous nudity and sex; graphic, penetrating violence), PROM NIGHT is told exclusively from the perspective of the genre's third core ingredient - the virginal girl who knows she's being targeted by a predatory male. Most of you guys will hate it, undoubtedly - which is unfortunate, since it actually achieves what it sets out to do fairly well. As for Brittany Snow snubbing B-D, who can blame her? She's not responsible for the decision to remake PROM NIGHT, or the content or direction of the film. She's just an actress trying to build a film career, and she proves herself quite capable of carrying a movie in PROM NIGHT. Considering all the heat she's taken from horror geeks online for things that aren't her fault, why would she want to expose herself to more grief?

Fwanger
2:20pm, April 11, 2008

Please. Does anyone really think that Brittany is logging on to horror websites in the middle of the night to see if anyone is talking smack on her? Give me a break. When you get into the movie business, you know that there are some fans that will love you and others that will abhor you. Regardless, you suck it up, get out there and give a good interview. And frankly, the comments on SpookyDan's appearance and her being "afraid" of him are uncalled for and insulting. Remember, this chick lives in Hollywood and seeing a dude at a opening with black hair and piercings all gothed out is not that much of an issue. In this business, you can't afford to snub people, because then you build up a reputation for being a snot and no one will want anything to do with you.

J-Griff, exactly, you hit the nail on the head. How are we being disrespectful? We arn't the ones LYING on anybody. Plus, if I saw spooky dan on the street i'll run the other way, he looks creepy. Also, we do not need your review of PROM NIGHT, we know you'll give it zero skulls and bash it till eternity, forreal, we don't need it. WHOEVER posted this is very immature and I think that BD is started to become nothing but a "talk trash" site which is terrible. I think I might stick to arrow in the head and fangoria and shock till you drop, shock till you drop gets news even before you guys sometimes. I love BD, but we can do without the constant blasting of films that possibly some people are looking foward too. Why were yall even at the premere? Yall seemed to hate all the prom night films because yall even had the original on the top 10 worst holiday themed movies list, looks like someone is biased. Please, its cool sharing yall opinion, but I think yall are starting to get the big head. Remeber, its the readers that made this site and if someone reply back saying no its not then let everyone leave and see just how big BD is. I LOVE this site, don't get me wrong, but the past few posts have been out of whack.

Well, well. Some of you already know me as the person who has ruthlessly made fun of this remake for months now on this site. It was nothing personal, it just didn't seem like it was going to be any good. I couldn't help but notice that the studio didn't screen this movie for the critics to review either. That's because they already knew what most of us had already suspected; that this movie is a GIANT, HEAPING, PILE OF WORM-INFECTED MONKEY SHIT. To answer your next question - NO, I didn't see the movie. How can I know it's bad then you ask? Well, I've never had a STD either but I'm pretty sure that sucks too. Call it intuition. Also, fuck that Brittany Snow be-otch too. Who the fuck is she to snub her nose? Actually; who the fuck is she.........

I just saw the movie and I would give it a strong C+. It's hardly movie of the year. It's not even MTV movie of the year. But I could think of worse ways to spend two hours. Also, can I just say that I find it ironic that as I'm typing this message I can clearly see the rules that state "Please do not respond to other users comments here, that's what the forums are for!" yet TWO people who run this website have made comments directly replied to comments made from us? Things are a bit hypocritical here at Bloody-Disgusting, aren't they?

I'm with you Spooky...she could have at least waved or something. She must thing she's real hot shit but hey, nevermind cuz you got the last laugh. Everybody else, both horror and mainstream critics, have given the film the beating you already knew it was gonna get. If she has read this site and knew what was being said AND if she was smart, she would have tried to do some damage control for the people most likely to see the film. She passed on a chance to help the film's image...her loss, dude.

^ Are you kidding? How would she be helping her film's image by talking to Bloody Disgusting? This is the website that will forever be known as the site that gave Rob Zombie's Halloween a good review (according to the back of the DVD). I've been reading BD for years. I love the exclusives, love the set reports, and I really dig all the news that's posted, but the site is incredibly biased, hypocritical, and comes across more like a blog than a legitimate news source. There are three kinds of horror fans - fans who like their movies polished, fans who like their movies raw, and fans who can appreciate both. BD is a site that pushes the idea that real horror is raw. It doesn't allow readers to make up their own minds (case in point them throwing their nose up at the idea of a Scream 4 all the while cheering on Jeepers Creepers 3 or some lame movie no one will ever see like Attack of the Planet Ant Zombies). So why would she, knowing what her film is and what it isn't, talk to BD - a site that bashes her film and praises films that are much worse? Remember, we can read a brief synopsis of a movie and decide in the blink of an eye that it's not worth seeing. We can watch a 2 minute trailer and dismiss it and not even give it a chance. Hell, we can glance at a poster and decide we're going to pass on certain movies. As a viewer, we can be closed minded and make judgments almost instantaneously. For the actors and actresses who are involved in what we judge so quickly, they might have spent months or even years working on that project. To have someone tear down your work like that before they even see it must be an awful feeling. I wouldn't talk to him either. Negativity and hatred breeds fast.

this IS a blog. I always roll my eyes when I see a review from this website on ANY dvd. its such a joke. Reviews in general are jokes. Everyone has different taste in movies. I dont know why everyone here has to be so right about everything. This film has really divided the horror community it seams. Some of us will love it, and im sure others will hate it. But I respect that, so others should respect that SOME of us hardcore horror fans WILL in fact love the film. I dont need blood in EVERY movie I see to enjoy it.

May she burn in hell, she was never meant to be a scream queen anyway.. some ppl love horror suspense films where the killer is just some normal dude... scream/i know what you did last summer... to me its boring as hell and the only reason to watch it is to watch really stupid teenagers suffer horrible endings... and if you wanna see dumb teenagers die then you are better off watching a master do it like Jason, Freddy, Michael, or Leatherface.
