UPDATE: Wanted: New Director(s) for 'Hellraiser' Remake
Sunday, April 6, 2008

Update: We have confirmed that the directors are officially OFF the project. We heard some very disconcerting news last Monday that we were able to confirm over the past week. From what we were told by various sources, the Weinstein Company is seeking a new director for their remake of Hellraiser. What's not clear yet is whether or not Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury - who directed the astounding French horror film INSIDE - is officially off the project. If there were two people in this world I'd trust with the project, it would be those two. What could have happened to leave Dimension seeking a director? All I know is that I'm extremely disappointed by this news, and because of it I no longer care about the project until I hear something that sparks my interest again. We'll continue to dig on this story Monday, hopefully we'll find out something more official.

Maybe it's better that Bustillo and Maury are no longer associated with this remake, because the Weinsteins rejected their script and hired the guys who wrote Saw IV. Ugh.

If there's one company that can fuck up what could be a good movie it's Dimension. That said I still look forward to seeing what happens with this remake.

I don't know if it would happen or not, but in my opinion, the only director who could possibly do justice to a "Hellraiser" remake is Russia's Andrey Iskanov (the guy responsible for "Nails" and "Visions of Suffering."). His cinematic vision is as visceral and as original as it can get!

I can guarantee this film will be like 'Freddy vs. Jason". The unneeded nudity, over-the-top gore, and non-stop drinking. Looks like 'Hellraiser' will probably hide from critics and get badly reviewed. Then on DVD they'll have that stupid 'Unrated Director's Cut'.

Lord, it's amazing how the Weinsteins can f^ck up movies (i.e Grindhouse, formerly owning All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, etc.). I was getting excited for this movie knowing Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury were helming it. now......

Fuck Fuck Fuck! To hell with all these remakes now, this one was going to be the exception, not anymore. (Ya, I'm cranky, I just woke up to this bad news)

I had a feeling the directors would bolt once their script was rejected. The writing was on the wall.

so what was wrong about the unneeded nudity and over the top gore in "freddy vs jason" most of the previous friday movies were filled with that stuff too.

this re-make should not be made... freddy vs jason was a horrible film by the way... It sucked balls! much like this film could if it gets made...

It was too cheesy and laughable to rule.

Freddy Vs Jason didn't do anything the F13 series didn't first do on its own, and that includes the drinking and especially the gore and especially the nudity. FvJ just through in Freddy for some fun fight scenes. What was anyone expecting from a FvJ movie? The F13 movies are not good movies. They're fun as hell, but they suck. NoES has a lot more imagination, but they were pretty gory as well, so what a shock that FvJ would try to blend the shared elements.

The original 'Hellraiser' movies were awesome. The whole concept of people opening the puzzle box and supposedly being granted their pleasures but not realising the sadistic, gory, unimaginable pain, that comes with it, is great horror fantasy. 'Pinhead' and the cenobites are true horror icons, that deserve respect and deserve to have a great horror director, producer and writing team to re-create the original and the second in the franchise. Lets hope this is only a minor set-back and that a true horror director and team pick up the mantle and make this movie kick the shit out of horrorhound ass!!!!!

Well that's fucking strange... I just found out about three hours ago that Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury were directing the remake of Hellraiser. I was ecstatic! Inside, when it was released in the U.S. for DVD purchase, became my favorite horror movie to date. Even more than Alexandre Aja's, and Neil Marshall's flicks. The Weinstein Co. couldn't have made a better desicion. Oh wait... now I just read that they fled production after they had received the script. Took very high, and dropped very low all in the same day, damnit. What I don't understand is how Alex and Julien accepted the directorial gig BEFORE they read the script... does anyone know what really happened with this?
