We discovered today that Legendary Pictures held a screening last night for their film Trick 'r Treat (review), which was directed by Michael Dougherty. Apparently Warner Bros. Pictures has decided NOT to release it and the horror film is now up for sale to whomever would be interested in distributing it. This does mean that there are no release plans for the film, so until we update you with a new distributor, don't hold your breath. The film features four interwoven stories that occur on Halloween: An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the one guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband.
Seems like they want Bryan Singer too depart from the lot. Lion Gate Studios should pick it up but then they would have to make it compete with the Saw franchise around the same release time. Anchor Bay could wet it's feet and make this the companies first theatrical release. This thing will do good buisness in october under a 20 million dollar ad campain
You gotta be kidding me.... I've been waiting to see this since I heard about it, and more frustratingly- since they DIDNT release it last October. Someone needs to pick this up and give it a proper release. No DTV crap either.
I've been waiting so long to see this...I've heard nothing but good things, too. Someone needs to pick up this movie fast! It's one the horror community definitely seems ready to support. Plus, I haven't seen a good horror anthology movie in a long time. A long time.
I just dont understand those damn studios...they are so willing and eager to produce and released those damn pointless Remakes (talking about only the Horror genre) and they will let go an original movie like "Trick or Treat" which i heard nothing but great things from the people that seen it, doesnt make sense big thumbs downs to Warner Bros...bunch of morons. I hope Lions Gates picks it up and i pray that the Weinstens Bros (Dimension Films) dont get their hands on it.
I agree, i think warner bros is retarded for not holding onto this. It does seem like they want nothing to do with the horror. Well I think someone with some more balls will release it. I thought this had some actual promise.
I guess we'll have to wait and see.
This is horrible news. If this movie was produced by Joel Silver, you just know Warner Bros would of given this movie the top of the line promotion treatment and released it on 3,000 screens.
I'm glad to see that pissing_lasers has responded because it seems we think alike. But I would like to rephrase a bit - fuck these stupid sequels, fuck these remakes (especially the Prom Night remake), and fuck Warners Bros hard right up their stupid, blue-blood assholes. Lionsgate - it's up to you to get this fucking movie in front of us. I don't care if it's on DVD or what the fuck............
Thanx WB, for being a bunch of jackasses and giving up on a really good film! Why are companies so damn afraid to go up against Saw's endless sequels and everyone else's lame remake/prequel/reimaging of films that don't need anything to make them better! Guess you guys are making enough money from the Potter films that you are good for the year? I hope this sale bites you in the ass hard! And here's to Dimension and the Weinstein Brothers NOT getting the rights to this one! Come on Fox or Paramount grab this up before it's too late and kick the shit out of Saw V's ass this October!
