Warner Bros. Says Goodbye to 'Trick 'r Treat'
Friday, April 4, 2008

We discovered today that Legendary Pictures held a screening last night for their film Trick 'r Treat (review), which was directed by Michael Dougherty. Apparently Warner Bros. Pictures has decided NOT to release it and the horror film is now up for sale to whomever would be interested in distributing it. This does mean that there are no release plans for the film, so until we update you with a new distributor, don't hold your breath. The film features four interwoven stories that occur on Halloween: An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the one guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband.

way to drop the ball Warner Brothers, this looked great and I've heard nothing but good things from the people who have seen it.

Seems like they want Bryan Singer too depart from the lot. Lion Gate Studios should pick it up but then they would have to make it compete with the Saw franchise around the same release time. Anchor Bay could wet it's feet and make this the companies first theatrical release. This thing will do good buisness in october under a 20 million dollar ad campain

You gotta be kidding me.... I've been waiting to see this since I heard about it, and more frustratingly- since they DIDNT release it last October. Someone needs to pick this up and give it a proper release. No DTV crap either.

I've been waiting so long to see this...I've heard nothing but good things, too. Someone needs to pick up this movie fast! It's one the horror community definitely seems ready to support. Plus, I haven't seen a good horror anthology movie in a long time. A long time.

I just dont understand those damn studios...they are so willing and eager to produce and released those damn pointless Remakes (talking about only the Horror genre) and they will let go an original movie like "Trick or Treat" which i heard nothing but great things from the people that seen it, doesnt make sense big thumbs downs to Warner Bros...bunch of morons. I hope Lions Gates picks it up and i pray that the Weinstens Bros (Dimension Films) dont get their hands on it.

I agree, i think warner bros is retarded for not holding onto this. It does seem like they want nothing to do with the horror. Well I think someone with some more balls will release it. I thought this had some actual promise. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I saw this movie. It's not that good. Warner Bros. did the right thing. It's a flop.

FOX should buy the damn film and release it. Then laugh in Warner's face when they make back double their money.

4:14pm, April 4, 2008

This is horrible news. If this movie was produced by Joel Silver, you just know Warner Bros would of given this movie the top of the line promotion treatment and released it on 3,000 screens.

Like the rest of you im extremely pissed to hear this. I have been looking forward to this since I first heard about it. This really blows.

coldblood
6:08pm, April 4, 2008

I'm glad to see that pissing_lasers has responded because it seems we think alike. But I would like to rephrase a bit - fuck these stupid sequels, fuck these remakes (especially the Prom Night remake), and fuck Warners Bros hard right up their stupid, blue-blood assholes. Lionsgate - it's up to you to get this fucking movie in front of us. I don't care if it's on DVD or what the fuck............

8:16pm, April 4, 2008

Thanx WB, for being a bunch of jackasses and giving up on a really good film! Why are companies so damn afraid to go up against Saw's endless sequels and everyone else's lame remake/prequel/reimaging of films that don't need anything to make them better! Guess you guys are making enough money from the Potter films that you are good for the year? I hope this sale bites you in the ass hard! And here's to Dimension and the Weinstein Brothers NOT getting the rights to this one! Come on Fox or Paramount grab this up before it's too late and kick the shit out of Saw V's ass this October!

Way to screw things up WB, I was looking so forward to this and now they drop it. I really hope some studio picks this up and makes a good profit.

2:08am, April 5, 2008

i love how u all just asssssssume things "theyre afraid to do horror" so house on haunted hill, returen to house on haunted hill, i am legend, etc. arent horror? fucking demons and vampires for christs sake! shut up YOU Deserve a kick in the nuts

horrorfan25
8:25am, April 5, 2008

Oh come on. This looked like the best and most unique film. Way to disappoint us. We would see your film but no you hid it. What else are you going to screw up?

thephantomk
11:51am, April 5, 2008

They fear saw, and they couldn't unload the toys related to the film, but duhhhhhh, no one knows about the movie yet, so why will they buy the merch!!!! I was really hoping that this film would come out right along side saw. I was gonna watch this over saw for sure. Now... Fuck man somebody get this and release it against Saw. 20 million dollar ad champain, one viral internet site.

mathu6xortem

a shame... i really wannna see this... and whoever releases it will get my money...

Weed Wacker
2:37pm, April 5, 2008

I`ll buy it! Lol. Warner Bros are douchebags.

ScaryJerry
7:45pm, April 5, 2008

This concerns me. The film has been getting good word of mouth so there's no reason why a studio would pass on ANY chance to make the slightest money. Perhaps it misses a target audience, but I'm growing concerned that maybe this ISN'T the great movie we think it is. I've been eager to see it since the trailer was released last year, I bought the $45 tie-in book, and even pre-ordered the $75 figure. Let's hope its just a lame, dumb-ass studio decision and not the unthinkable: another bad movie about Halloween.

tazboi195
10:07pm, April 5, 2008

Iam pretty sure this movie is boring because if warner brother doesn't wanna release its for a good reason because if their afraid of releasing it because of saw they could just release it in sept or aug(like halloween) iam pretty sure this movie is really boring.

Do you know if their is any way an independent could purchase the movie and pay for distubution?

mrlokievil
9:51pm, April 7, 2008

This makes no sense at all. They were advertising this film on the cover of the 300 dvd. The trailer plays when you load up the disc.

horrorfan25
5:03pm, April 20, 2008

Actually for a movie that's been pushed back over and over it doesn't mean it's good. Sure the trailer looks good and an original idea. But don't they put the best parts in trailers?

PIPAjon88
3:40pm, May 1, 2008

This is a load of crap, Lions Gate needs to pick this film up. Look what they did for Cabon Fever and House of 1000 Corpses. And lest we forget the Saw franchise
