Today I posted our official review for the early cut of Lionsgate's Repo! The Genetic Opera, which is only going to get better in time. "REPO! is a special treat, a film that should have never been, the bastard child of a studio, something that is so distinct that you can barely begin to compare it to anything else. If you’re a fan of musicals, I GUARANTEE that this will become a cult classic in your collection, for everyone else this is a unique film that – whether it’s good or bad - will give you a new theatrical experience. And that’s something special in this day and age." Click the link for the review.
I'm still waiting for for this to show up at my local "Red Box" so I can rent it for $1. I'm not going to bother seeing this in theaters. No offense guys, I just think it looks lame- I don't dig it.
The idea of a person repossessing "organs" that people have failed to make long-term finance payments on is a great and interesting one. My fear is that making it a musical would sort of short-change that idea by giving it too much of an image of novelty. Or, the musical numbers could take up too much film time that such a story would deserve for development and exploration. I'm interested in seeing the movie, but another part of me is basically saying, "Great, someone finally decides to make a movie about something that, for the most part, I haven't heard of or seen before, and now they're going to throw it all away on theatrical kitch." Either way, I'm optimistic about enjoying it.
