While you guys wait for me to post our exclusive visit to the set of the film, it was announced today that Senator Entertainment (All the Boys Love Mandy Lane) has acquired distribution rights in North America, Germany and Spain to the sci-fi thriller Splice from writer-director Vincenzo Natali (Cube). You can read all about it inside.
Senator Entertainment has acquired distribution rights in North America, Germany and Spain to the sci-fi thriller "Splice" from writer-director Vincenzo Natali.
Film, which stars Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley, revolves around two scientists who undertake illegal genetic experiments and create a new species fusing human and animal DNA. As the pair become global celebrities, the consequences of their accomplishment begin to become apparent.
Natali is a protege of Guillermo del Toro, who is exec producing alongside Senator's Marco Weber and Don Murphy ("Transformers"). "Splice" was financed by Gaumont and is produced by Steve Hoban of Copperheart Entertainment.
The project is due for theatrical release in 2009.
Senator's most recent credits include Gregor Jordan's "The Informers," starring Billy Bob Thornton and Kim Basinger; ensembler "Fireflies in the Garden," which features Ryan Reynolds, Willem Dafoe, Emily Watson and Julia Roberts; and the horror-thriller "All the Boys Love Mandy Lane," which the company acquired for U.S. and German distribution.
How do you guys feel about Vincenzo Natali? Is he a one-hit wonder (Cube), or can he actually work some magic?
Personally, I think the guy has given us two really fun films (Cube and Cypher), but I didn't really dig "Nothing." Still, at least the guy has style.
I really do want to see this movie. I don't know anything about the director. And the only time I saw 'Cube' when it was featured on a movie review program called 'At The Movies'.
