This guy fits the bill. He looks a little more built than the "classic" Jasons (and by that I mean the actors who portrayed Jason in 2-4), but still much better than Kane Hodder's fat and slow portrayal. I'm excited that these guys are on the right track... Now they just need to get his look down...That includes little to no hair this time.

im a little concerned that all these people involved in these terrible remakes all have involvement in one of the best horror franchises out there. if they even try and give reason as to why jason does what he does other then what has already been established or say how he does it, i.e. the who tunnels thing we heard about, its really gonna put a hole into the whole fun of the series, i dont care how he gets to point a to point b from scene to scene, its just about good old 80s fun.

Kane Hodder was Jason 4 times. . . but that just makes him the one to have done the most. I prefer the Jason in part 2 and Freddy Vs Jason. I realize that they're pretty different, but I like watching those two Jasons the most. I never found Jason scary really, but I thought those were the performances with the most personality, and therefore the most interesting.

I agree with a few of you, I hope they go with a Jason more in line with parts 2-4 also. I don't hate zombie Jason by any means, but living Jason was much more interesting to watch.

The casting is the least of my concerns with this project...as long as sensory terrorist Marcus Nispel is attached to direct I will be approaching this with the same level of dreadful dismay I felt while watching his goat f**k Chainsaw Massacre remake fiasco. This guy stinks and I don't like him.

The human Jason from 2-4 was IMO far better than Kane Hodder's ridiculous zombie Jason. It looks like they're going in that direction. I can definitely see this guy in the scene at the end of 2 where Jason jumps through the window. I'm interested now.

Kane Hodder was not the best Jason by any means. His name gets the most recognition for some reason. Don't get me wrong. I like Kane, he's a cool guy, but i'll have to agree that Richard Brooker or Ted White were the best.

I'm not really concerned too much about this movie. It can't really fuck up the franchise...( thats what Jason x was for) I just hope they have him wear his mask and don't try to make some psychological bullshit out of this movie.

My three cents... First, this guy looks perfect, physically. The shape of his head will lend itself perfectly to a Part 3/Part 4 make-up. Second, Kane Hodder was a fine Jason, but the gushing over him being "the best" or "the only" is ridiculous. In Part 7, he was fantastic. In JTM and JGTH, he was okay at best. There was little in those performances to distinguish him from any other actor who had played the role, beyond his name recognition. For all its flaws, JASON X was a return to form for Hodder. His rage-filled performance was the best part of that film. If he hadn't done it four times, he would be remembered as just another good Jason actor. The other names that keep coming up are Ted White, C.J. Graham, and Richard Brooker. White was fine, but his turn was as much the result of good direction and great make-up than a stand-out performance. It also amazes me how often people mention White without mentioning that he hated the role and the film, and wants nothing to do with it anymore. No matter how good he is on screen, the fan in me wouldn't want the guy back. Graham was also solid, but also the beneficiary of a good script and good direction. Brooker is, hands down, the best Jason. His build and his grunting, mongoloid performance are exactly the sort of turn I want to see from a new Jason. The problem is, Brooker is 54 years old, and really hasn't worked since the late 1980s (he has a film coming out soon, but there was nothing in between). The idea of asking him back to play Jason now is a bit ridiculous.

I've never really been a fan of the F13 franchise. It was always the same shit in every installment. So you knew what you were gonna get and that took the edge of the series of movies. Now with this new Jason, This could be the stand out remake, amongst current remakes and future remakes. Just because it adds fresh impetus into a worn down franchise. I hope this new F13th kicks the shit outta recent remakes and doesnt follow the trend of remaking movies and letting the viewers down. We shall see....This new Jason looks like he would kill his own family, just for shits n giggles. PSYCHO.

A quick follow-up... the Hodder hate is ridiculous, too. Again, the best parts of Part 7 (aside from the killer make-up) and JX are his performances, and fans should feel a certain debt of gratitude to have an actor out there who enjoyed the role so much that he never wanted to stop playing it. Kane may not be "your" Jason, but he was still a pretty good one.

im not a big fan of human jason too much he did get his ass handed to him by a 13 year old cory feildman in part four i like big unstopable jason that can take a licken and keep on ticken like in part seven Kane and the guy who played jason in part six was my favorites but kane is a little too heavy to play jason anymore so im ready for someone new and this guy kinda has the look of a jason without any make up just please dont let this human jason get whooped by a girl who is afraid to pick up a weapon and is always hiding and having to hold her mouth to keep from screaming then she see's a mouse run by and lets out the big scream or pee's herself like in part two hopefully they let padalacki take jason down in the movie that is if his character is like his sam character in supernatural

As disappointing as it is that Kane Hodder is not going to be Jason, this guy looks good for the part. There was just something to how Hodder carried the character. It was just menacing, which is an aspect that lacked up until he put on the goalie mask. New movie, new direction, new Jason. Let's keep an open mind and see where this film goes.

It could work, looked real nice in The Hills have eyes 2 when he played the Chameleon-guy.. Kane Hodder was fuck*n great but still times changes it's just for us to accept.

One thing we all have to consider is that most people in the industry know Kane's love for the part and the franchise itself. Who knows, we might get a cameo of him playing one of the town folk. Having met Kane at a convention years ago, I doubt he would be opposed to it. Besides, can't you just envision him riding around as the town drunk warning the kids about Camp Blood? That would be fuckin hilarious if you ask me.

This guy looks huge. Maybe the new jason will be like a wrestler and he'll break people over his knee rip them apart with his hands instead of his machete. I really hope not but i get the feeling it will be like that.

I've kinda vibed for a new F13th - provided it's done smartly and with Marcus Nispel behind this we can be sure it will be at least look more gritty and dark than any of the sequels. I do think Kane Hodder should have been back - i mean c'mon - i can't think of anyone who's continued to proudly champion this series in the past ten years - even when the likes of Sean Cunningham and others haven't. Kane kicked ass as Jason in part 7 (and Jason x) and for his loyalty he deserves to be back in the role for a big budget film after being stiffed for FVJ. The only other person i've liked as Jason was Ted from Part 4 - but even he disowns the role now. I agree on the various comments about not needing a huge tall Jason - i always thought it was scarier to have someone of a more normal height like Kane cause to me that's more real and that fact someone of that size can cause such violence was more brutal to me. I mean who decided lately that Jason either had a tall father or had steriods that he had to be so tall! C'mon!. Either way i'm keeping an open mind for this new version and let's hope that between Nispel and someone at Dunes they'll know they are dealing with horror royalty and can't afford it fuck it up. Kane - man if i had my way (and from the thoughts of many F13 fans) you'd be back in the role as you deserve it.

I find it ridiculous that people whine about Kane Hodder not being in the new F13. Did anybody see that movie he was in "Ed Gein"? Talk about a horrible movie and a horrible actor, he isn't even buff or in good shape for that matter. I mean seriously a monkey could have made a convincing Jason in the other movies. In Hills Have Eyes 1 he when he is Jupiter he looks exactly like Jason from part 3. Same clothes, disgusting face, skinny build. I think this is an excellent choice.

A few problems with WWE's Kane (Glen Jacobs)... First, WWE has its own film division, and it's not likely that they would want one of their contracted wrestlers making a film for someone else. I won't spoil it for those who missed Wrestlemania, but Kane is also involved in a fairly big storyline right now, so he wouldn't necessarily have sufficient time off available to shoot in the coming months. Third, Platinum Dunes is likely to look at the box-office for SEE NO EVIL and decide they can pay a stuntman/actor like Mears a lot less and expect better return on their investment. It wasn't that Kane was bad himself in SEE NO EVIL, but the movie (deservedly) tanked. And if the film is a success and sequels are planned, it will be easier to get Mears back than a full-time wrestler. I think Kane would be fine in the role, but there are too many factors working against that possibility.

I think Kane Hodder did a lot for the character of Jason and came up with some of the traits we mostly associate with him (The head tilt for example), but i agree with what a lot of other people are saying that he is too old now, especially for such a demanding role as a new Jason film will require. I think Mears has the right physical presence to pull this off (i mean face it, would you want to meet this guy in a dark alley) I think they have made the right choice.

Kane Hodder was excellent when he played jason but the best jason ever was the one who played him for friday the 13th part 3. See jason isnt meant for superhuman strength,Kane Hodder brings too much of that and thats why he isnt the best jason ever. Anyway I really hope they dont screw up the jason vorrhees in the remake.

I've always been against uneeded remakes. I don't like Mr Supernatural as the lead role. But, that being said, this Mears guy WOULD make a great Jason. Unlike Michael Myers, who's character was RAPED by Rob Zombie, and made a wrestler(remember, Myers was SUPOSED to be normal looking), Jason(like Leatherface), were always large guys. Even when he was human he was a big guy. He was suposed to be a bulk mongoloid. This guy WILL need makeup, to at least aim for the deformity of classic Jason, who while alive, kinda resembled Sloth from The Goonies. So yeah, this guy fits the bill!

I have to whole-heartedly agree with jkrouskop. Hodder may be a household name, but I could give two-shits if he ever played Jason again. It's almost annoying how the guy lays claim to the character after starring in arguably the worst entries in the series. I'm a huge fan of 'The New Blood', but everything after is kind of hard to watch. Not saying the quality of those films is Hodder's fault, but it doesn't help his case with me any. I hope captain penis here gives it his best, but ultimately it won't matter if he gives an oscar-caliber turn as Jason if the film itself chokes dick.

I think Kane Hodder should still play as Jason. Kane is about as good as they come and I have so much respect for what he as accomplished with the character Jason. I meet Kane this last year he is just a really good guy. So I think the only person who should play the role of Jason is one of the best originals Kane Hodder. Ok, Not Kane but i don't think he will be back behind the mask for some reason. Last i talked to fango, they said if it wasn't for kane going around and promoting the friday films, it would have died. I am not telling you that he was the best jason, i am saying that he did the most to get people to go see them. To add to this, for the people who think he is not good as Jason, then why is his line at the shows so long? I was at Monster-mania right after FvJ came out and Kane had a longer line then Ken did all day long. What does that tell you? I have met all the people who played jason, and the one that sticks out the most, (for most people), is Kane. On to the new film. If it is a remake or the original, then why is jason in it? It was mother not jason who was the killer. So does anyone know if this is a remake or a new story line? I am not saying that Derek Mears will do a bad job but give the fans what they want!

Honestly, as much as I love Kane Hodder as Jason, I really loved Kirzinger's performance in Freddy vs Jason. That was the first time I'd seen how Jason could be scary again in a long time. That said, as long as he doesn't make any grunting noises or try to talk, I'll be happy. It really throws me in Part 2 when he makes a noise every time he makes a move...
