Starz Media is jumping into Dead Space with Electronic Arts, pacting to make an animated feature tied into the sci-fi horror vidgame launching this fall. We brought you an exclusive first look at the upcoming video game title, which is said to be pretty damn amazing. You can read all about the animated feature inside.

Starz' Film Roman unit is producing a film that serves as a prequel to the game, picking up where a comic that is being made by Image Comics leaves off.

"Dead Space" is part of a larger deal between the two companies. Starz has two other animation projects in development tied to EA franchises.

Starz is in talks with broadcasters worldwide to distribute the pic on TV and will also put it out on DVD through its Anchor Bay subsid and online.

"Due to the richness and complexity of stories that have evolved for videogames, they have become a type of entertainment that can span generations and provide fantastic inspiration for other forms of media, especially in the realm of animated features," Film Roman prexy Scott Greenberg said in a statement.

Defiantely true, there are many great games out there, that if handled by people with talent and ambition, could be translated onto the screen very well. However, nobody seems to know how to do that effectively yet. All of the current films (Resident Evil series, Doom, Mario Bros., and yes, even Silent Hill), witht he exception of Mortal Kombat which was about as good as it could have been, sucked pretty badly, or at least didn't come close to their potential. I remember being vastly disappoited by the 'Silent Hill' film especially. But games like Half- Life, Metal Gear Solid, Halo, Gears of War, Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, etc. all have great stories and could be turned into rather good films if handled with care.

So will the animated prequel come before or after the comic book prequel? Christ, that's a lot of stuff for a game no one has played yet. What if it sucks/bombs?

(I know in story terms it comes AFTER the comic, I mean as far as release, which will come first)

I met a WOMAN who works for the Dead Space team who was looking for the retail version of the comic I of course work at a comic book store as a part time job and I hadn't seen it there is a copy at the EA dev team lounge but I guess it's all the production art and not final retail version and I haven't seen it
