Today we posted our review for 20th Century Fox's Shutter, which deserves to be added to my list of the 15 Worst Remakes of All-Time. "The original was a rip-off and it rocked, so there’s no reason for the remake to suck as bad as it did. SHUTTER should have been the scariest horror film since THE RING, but instead it was infuriatingly bad. This joins ONE MISSED CALL in the ranks of worst horror remakes of all-time and I highly recommend skipping this one in favor of the original, which is now available on DVD from Tartan Extreme." I know why no other japanese remake can compare to The Ring, because the ring, get this, had good actors in it. Thats why, they need to better cast these remakes, I mean The Eye remake wasn't that bad
I actually did NOT enjoy the original. It was hyped as this really scary movie and yet there were barely any scary moments in it. That's why I'm looking forward to the remake.
I didn't even know there was an original Shutter. So at least this remake made me aware of it. And - there are only so many movies that the hollow-heads in Hollywood can remake. We have to be getting close to the end of this shit soon. I'd like to see them remake Cannibal Holocaust and make it PG-13.
I was really anticipating this movie and then I saw a free screening for it last night. Thank God that I did not have to pay for this. I was really disappointed in this movie. Not scary at all. I like the actors but the story was weak and the dead girl wasn't even scary looking or anything. Shutter certainly did not take after great horror remakes like The Grudge, The Ring and Dark Water. Now those are creepy flicks.
The only good American remake of a Japanese horror film was the first 'The Ring' movie, and that was becuase there was both a great director and good cast behind it. Everything since has ranged from below average to extremely sucky.
And people always question us to why we judge these movies before we see them. Most of us KNOW what we are getting into. Hell, you have to look at the commercials. The commercials say it all. After you seen the commercials and trailers, seeing the part where "Oh, look at the view of Tokyo"/"There's nothing to do, so let's have sex!", THAT alone tells you what kinda crap movie this is going to be. If you have scene so pointlessly idiotic like THAT, sorry, it doesn't fly. That's where the judgement comes in. Those able with the hindsight can spot crap from the rest. And once again, we were RIGHT!!!
