Rider Strong Talks 'Borderland' and 'Cabin Fever 2'

Lionsgate Home Entertainment is set to release their box set (and individual releases) for After Dark Horrorfest II tomorrow, which features "Eight Films to Die For" all on DVD for the first time ever. One of our favorite films here on B-D is Borderland, which is why we got star Rider Strong on the phone for a quick one-on-one. Read on for some quick bits and watch for the full interview soon.

Just in time for the release of the AfterDark 8 Films to Die For, Bloody-Disgusting spoke with "The King of the 8 Films", Rider Strong, as he appears in both "Borderland" and "Tooth & Nail".

He told us about how hard it was, both physically and emotionally, to shoot "Borderland" as he was playing someone who really was murdered back in 1988 during the Matamoros (Mexico) Cult Killings (this is one film that really IS based on true events) and Rider endured a lot of physical "abuse" during the shoot - being strung up by his feet with no harness, being chained up by Sean Astin who plays one of the baddies, Randall, as well as having a Palo Majombe priest actually come "bless" the set before the shooting began.

Strong said that when he shot "Tooth & Nail" in a "creepy abandoned hospital" in Philadelphia, that film was MUCH more fun emotionally plus he gets to play an asshole when he has normally been cast as the "good kid".

On the subject of "Cabin Fever 2", which Strong said wrapped about a year ago, he wasn't able to give much away other than Ti "The Roost" West directed and used a "ridiculous" amount of blood - "you've got people puking blood and if you thought 'Cabin Fever' was gory, this is much worse". He also related the story of ending up on the same flight to Wilmington, North Carolina (where "Cabin Fever 2" was shot) with Deputy Winston himself, Giuseppe Andrews, who, like Strong, is returning as his "Cabin Fever" character. He told B-D that the plot of "CF 2" is the infected water ends up at a prom and, well, things pretty much go downhill from there.

In BORDERLAND, three Texas University seniors, on the eve of their graduation, road-trip to a Mexican Border town for a final weekend of drinking and debauchery. Their vacation becomes a living nightmare as the trio runs afoul of an ancient blood cult looking for human sacrifice. Based on true events, Borderland blends the raw fear of Texas Chainsaw Massacre with the gritty true crime realism of In Cold Blood, evoking a world of paranoia, death and terror.
