This afternoon AICN posted a piece of a press release from MGM Studios that lists a bunch of potential upcoming projects - one them is a remake of ROBOCOP. No details were given, but the fact that this is included in a release confirms the validity of the rumors floating around the web this past year. More soon. The original '87 movie took place in a dystopic & crime ridden Detroit, where a terminally wounded cop returns to the force as a powerful cyborg with submerged memories haunting him.

Is there not anyone in Hollywood that can come up with any new ideas for a film? I'm sick of all the remake/prequel/reimaging of movies nowadays!

I'd rather see the old stuff with less computer animated fx. The real, on-camera stuff gave me an appreciation for the hard work of all the folks that work on a movie. It's fine that computers can get you to make up stuff like never before, but give it a rest sometimes already!

They should only remake this if they can improve upon it...and I don't see how they can. The special effects still hold up well today, and the story is a classic. So why?

You know why. It's a name people recognize. No different than doing a movie based on "Candy Land" or "Monopoly." Not that they'd ever do movies based on tha- Oh shit.

Great.....I figured it would be a matter of time before the powers that be would get their dirty little hands on the rights to probably one of the greatest movies of the 80's.....I definitely wouldnt buy that for a dollar.....(remakes are lame)

Flippin' eck ... Robocop is my hands down all time favorite movie ... I'm not happy about this :(

Hang on ... this so called remake ... no one's mentioned remake. BD is getting a little ahead here ... It could be a sequel, based on the press release. That said ... a sequel, if the third film is anything to go by (and why Peter Weller didn't do it) is a bad idea! Robocop 1 and 2 are great movies, but that was it ...

i agree with spirit_dave Robocop 1 and 2 kicked ass, from there on it was down hill .Robobcop 3 was a fucking joke and the tv series was something in its own... A pile of dog shit... I believe they could carry on from part 2 with Kane - the second Robocop. He was sooooo badass! the big robocop battle at the end of part 2 was great.

Now you shut the fuck up. Right now. You CAN'T REMAKE robo-cop...what the fuck? They're totally going to fuck up the pure cheesiness that the movie accomplished in the 80's, that's part of what the movie's all about...modernizing it is just going to make it silly and stupid...so fuck you hollywood.

A remake won't be so bad as long as it's pulled off well. Of course you won't see the same actor playing Robocop but this could still be great. I loved Robocop but I'd like to see an ED209 that doesn't look like a shitty action figure. Then again I'm doubting they'll make this rated R so fuck it. I need all the blood and guts that was the unrated Robocop.

Remakes are good... better than the originals. I think a visionary filmmaker like Rob Zombie should remake Rob Zombie's Halloween. In regards to McG... he should remake Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle and try to direct a film that doesn't give audiences cancer.
