Tonight we posted our official review for Neil Marshall's Doomsday, his highly anticipated follow-up to THE DESCENT. Here's what JAM had to say about the film, "DOOMSDAY isn’t for everyone, it’s mainly for those of you who want to see some of your favorite 80s action scenes reshot - I guess you can say DOOMSDAY is a remake of about a dozen films from the ‘80s all meshed into one. If you can turn your brain off and just enjoy the action, you’ll find a special place in your heart for this film." Click the link for the full review. The film is now in theaters and don't forget to write your own reviews after you've seen it!
I saw it tonight, it fucking rocks. If this film is mediocre then Resident Evil, Underworld and Saw are the worst movies ever made. It's SO much better then the anything the other genre directors are doing today. This film will be a cult classic.
Circle Cross Skater 1 .....first learn how to spell some one's name right it's KANAME. Clayton critics agree with me more then you and since the American public is so stupid that 75% of them rely on reviews to tell them whats good they're going to go with what critics say....so while fan boys like you who really have very bad taste and probably think halo 3 is THE SHIT and will make president bush look like a war heroe. I'll be actually trying to put some actual complexitiy on things not just dumbing them down and slapping together MEDIOCRE movies which i believe Neil tried is best but failed at making this epic and box office sales are going to agree
actually i dont like halo nor microsoft but nice try changing the subject, anyways who cares if the movie wasnt screened by critics or if critics didnt review it, the fact is its a very sucessful movie, who cares if it doesnt do good in the box office, as long as its good and entertaining which it is, plus neil provides a cult classic in the making for very low money, and i dont have bad tastes like i said a hundred times im talkin to someone whos favorite movie is saw and candyman, um wait a minute ur the one with bad taste
and let's see what BD gave the saw movies
Saw 1 cut:8/10 skulls
uncut:9/10
saw 2:7/10
Saw 3:8/10
Saw 4:7/10
all have broken the 50 million dollar mark in the US alone with their theather runs
....Doomsday.....6/10.....and I don't even think it will make 25 million before the end of of it's theater runs
and it dosen matter if it makes money because if it dosen't make atleast the budget it is considered a fincal failure..... and that studio won't trust Neil that much anymore with that sum of money
who cares what bd gave the saw movies, i dont listen to critics anyways, i see what i want to see reviews dont matter, the fact is saw was amazing, saw 2 was complete shit, saw 3 and 4 were somewhat entertaining but it was getting old, if i want to see a tortue movie then i would rather watch hostel, but anyways doomsday is great, and u said u walked out after the hulk so u wouldnt even no how good it was, and if it does bad then neil might have to make an even lower budget movie not a big deal since dog soldiers and the decent were masterpieces and very low budget, so it doesnt matter, movies are suppossed to entertain and thats exactly wat doomsday does
jumping in here... still have yet to see Doomsday (going later tonight). i've gotta say though, yeah, to the producers, profit is more important. but i'm not a producer and most of the other people on here aren't either (that is an assumption). shawshank redemption bombed at the BO and it's considered one of the greatest films ever. fight club as well (which IS my favorite film). just because a movie doesn't do good in theaters doesn't mean it sucks. it just means that it's an acquired taste or it's more complex than the audience wants or it just doesn't suit their taste... or it can actually suck. and i'm almost positive this film will make its budget back. it's only 30 million which is quite small and, since it's from the UK, its foreign gross is going to be larger than what would normally be expected. we shall see though.
Since my cell phone likes to F*** up alot I had to wait til I could get on my computer to say this but:
circlecrosssk8r1 Dog soldiers was great Decent was alright ending left me confused especially wtf happened to her afterword. but This is a mediocre film with little plot UNLIKE the saw movies and candy man movies which with Candyman was what would happen if some one's soul was cursed into Mirrors and if anyone said the name he was cursed with was said.....Saw is about how people need to stop being so artifical in general but then it brakes it down into kind of plots for each movie and then even more sub plots that connect into other movies of the series while Doomsday has a paper thin plot that I could watch any 80's waste land movie and know the full plot of and any movie that dosen't make me think and actually a reviewer says you have to turn your brain off isn't that good of a movie. Asinyne Fight club and Shawshank are two of my favorite movies and with the mixture of good review, good BO numbers and fan buzz they both got they are considered good movies that make you think....Doomsday on the other hand is a basic 80's movie that only has fan buzz behind it BO numbers aren't going to be that good since I know most people listen to the media about what movies they aren't going to see it if it keeps on gettng bad reviews. and to be excate since the US dollar is just a hair under half of a GBP roughly it's a budget of 35 million and some change I know atleast in america it will not make 25 million with bad press reviews unless people who don't care about press reviews see it about 5 times each and yes I'm saying theres only about 5 million hard core Neil fans that think Neil can't do and hasn't done wrong with this movie.
alright stop trashin doomsday, first of all you didnt even see it (you walked out after the hulk), second of all you are to narrow-minded andtoo focused on reviews that even if u saw the movie you wouldnt be able to like it, and if it only brings in 20 million in the US it doesnt matter because it will probably double that in Europe, and just because saw movies supposevily has a more developed plot doesnt make them any better, the plots not that great anyways everyone is people dieing in different ways due to jigsaws traps, then the cops try to find jigsaw or the killer and (are you ready for it) there is a stupid twist at the end that ties the movie together, (its really not that complex) so as far as im concerned its no better
Plot is great because anyone can get out of their traps it's pretty easy it's just they're not ready to scar themselves and get themselves killed, every single person who's been a victim is directly tied to John or the new jigsaw in some way shape or form. with the twist at the end of Saw 4 this series has unlimited possibility for plot and not all of Saw's loose ends have been tied together especially with agent perez in Saw 4 Danny in Saw 2 and of course the new jig saw and how come we've never seen him tested...lots of plot still left WIDE OPEN. I'm not narrow minded I'm focused on plot and overall film style which are two big factors to movies and if a movie dosen't have good plot I walk out of it period point blank if it has a decent plot i can over look it's fliming flaws. I'm trashing the movie i'm pointing out what people over look if I was trashing it I would say "NO ONE SHOULD SEE THIS MOVIE" but i'm not I'm just saying it's totally mediocre but your seeing it the best action movie since the last GOOD mad max
Doomsday's plot: if I know anything about 80's movies here it is. A virus that the government tried to contain by sealing off a part of country years past and for some reason the virus(probably some idoit in the goverment) comes back in the part that wasn't bloocked off and the part that was blocked off seems to be normal now......(basic set up for any action movie "Find the item that can help beat this") the government sends a team over they find survivors who are crazed mad men and start getting picked off until there's 1 or 2 left...(basic waste land type action movie fomula) the hero/heroine picks up a few non crazy survivors who help them find out the government was invovled in the original outbreak....(so original)the main character fights there way to saftey yadayadayada basic action stuff....... I'm sorry this movie lacks real substance and based on my views of it and the fact "you have to turn your brain off" from one reviewers point of view and "that wears down your defenses and eventually makes you just go with it" from another's....... I'm not going waste my time watching this movie so it dulls me into boredem to the point i start turning my brain off, I would watch the bratz movie if I wanted to rot my mind
I like to actually have a movie that leaves me thinking like Saw leaves me thinking.....how are they going to top that next movie?...what are they going to do with plot next time?.......How are they going to make the traps so much grittier out of normal every day items? you only see the surface of plot which is pretty dull way of looking at things. I take out of the saw movies a little more understanding of what john thinks as he sets up these traps he thinks "Okay this will help this person let go of their own selfish nature by showing that they can't be shut off from the world and think everything will still go their way" he even thinks of some very messed up situations like he though of if he seriously was going to die at the end of Saw 3 not that he was untouchable and this person will listen to the rules but that he could possibly die. that makes me think "I could make a life or death choice when I walk out this door I should always be prepared to make choice if it ever pops up even if i think i have everything in my control"
the only thing in saw that makes you think is how this movie is gonna end, there really isnt much development into that movie, its all about the shock factor and gore, people only see it for the death traps and stupid twist at the end, the acting is horrible and so is the story, at least doomsday has good acting and directing, looks very expensive though it aint, is very entertaing and fun, i really think u are the only one besides the reviews who dont like this movie, sure its not the best movie ever to hit the big screen but its dam well a good movie, and the plot isnt bad at all its just simple, and the movie was suppossed to have many influences so who cares if it relates to older movies its still its own unique film, and if you want to think or something go to school or someshit like seriously you are watching a movie which is suppossed to entertain and doomsday does it perfectly without a dull moment
DAQ it's because they all want to hate on the fact I use a billy doll as my icon and I believe those films are better and have better acting and will end up being more redeemable then this movie in the long run. CCS1 your just ignoring facts now because if I wanted a movie with simple plot......I would watch one of the many movies this is based off in my DVD collection instead of spending 8.75/10 bucks depending on the time you go over where I live just to watch it is dull in the sense that it's all been done before with a better story behind it maybe not as a kick ass explosions all the characters are 2D and have been done before and better. If you think the acting in Saw is bad I can see where your right for most characters of the series but I still believe tobin will never be topped and his acting puts him up their with Hannibal lecter(in Silence of the lambs and Red Dragon) and pinhead in level of intelligence and commanding power when he's on screen. The new jigsaw could potentially keep up that level of intelligence and power to command the screen. The acting in Saw might not be Oscar worthy but neither is the same cold blooded action hero chick I've seen in 20 movies and video games before. and No it dosen't make me think of how it's going to end it makes me wonder how they're going to deal with this and that after it might make you think how it ends but no two human beings are excatly alike in the way of thinking. Shock factor and gore *looks a doomsday* sorry....you were saying......and as for traps I don't and the twist at the end is never usually that stupid if it was stupid you wouldn't have seen the first two at least from what you know about the movies it might have not been on the level of surprising as it was in Saw 1 but very unexpected compared to normal movies without being ridiculously stupid *looks predictability of doomsday*...oh sorry I was looking at something that IS ridiculously stupid
dude try as you might to take me down a peg the fact all the saw movies have made at least 15 times more then what they where made for and try to do more then give you a normal horror movie and I know this at most will barely make 2 if that since it's only being showed in the US and Canada and one time in theaters in europe. They make you think how those traps where made how those traps do what they do alittle don't they?Saw 4 even showed what it was like if the trap broke. I'm not in it for the gore I'm in to see how much humans aren't willing to sacrifice to save their own lives from their pride to their beauty to their morals. Critics most fans agree with me that this is pretty standard action movie with a good director behind it
