David Gordon Green Still Interested in 'Suspiria'

Contrary to reports that the project is dead, David Gordon Green tells STYD that he is still in talks to direct the remake of Dario Argento's Suspiria. "These Italian producers came to me about it, wanting to do a pretty amazing, ambitious, artistic (version)," he told the site. "It could be pretty wild." In Dario Argento's original a young American dancer travels to Europe to join a famous ballet school. As she arrives, the camera turns to another young woman, who appears to be fleeing from the school. She returns to her apartment where she is gruesomely murdered by a hideous creature. Meanwhile, the young American is trying to settle in at the ballet school, but hears strange noises and is troubled by bizarre occurrences. She eventually discovers that the school is merely a front for a much more sinister organisation.

A remake of SUSPIRIA is as unnecessary as the proposed remake of ROSEMARY'S BABY. Considering the tens of thousands of scripts floating around Hollywood at any given moment, why so many remakes? Especially of movies that still hold up and don't need to be remade? I can't imagine how much of a travesty a remake of SUSPIRIA would be. I know I certainly won't be seeing it.

No one trumps Jessica Harper in the original. She is a goddess. Even the thought of remaking "Suspiria" makes me nauseous.

How the fuck can you make an artistic remake of Suspiria?! The damn original is about as aristic as horror gets.

Yeah, an "artistic" remake sounds pretty damn redundant. Seriously, out of the entire slew of remakes on the horizon - proposed or otherwise - this is by far the worst. Beyond unnecessary.

Man...you really wouldn't have crap to post for new if it wasn't for these re-makes huh?

Suspiria and Rosemary's Baby are, in my opinion, the greatest achievements in horror films, with maybe the exception of Dawn of The Dead. The thought of the Hollywood scum remaking these films makes me want to snort anthrax. Anyone who truly loves our genre should boycott these films. FUCK!!!!!

I will stab anyone who tries to remake this to death.

I'm fine with remakes. I really am. But Suspiria? Fuck that.

Suspiria is simply not remakeable. Whoever the italian producers are that approached Green seriously need get this remake nonsense out of their head immediately.

As much as I don't like the idea, I'd like to point out if there's any director that could tackle something on the scale of Suspiria, David Gordon Green could very well be the man to do it. If it's inevitable, fuck. I'll see it. Check out Undertow and the upcoming Snow Angels.
