Tony Goldwyn (Dexter, Kiss the Girls) and Monica Potter (Saw) will star in Rogue Pictures' Last House on the Left. Dennis Iliadis is on board to direct the remake of Wes Craven's seminal horror film about escaped convicts who take two teenage girls hostage and then take refuge in one of the girl's home after leaving her for dead. Mark Haslett, Carl Ellsworth and Adam Alleca penned the screenplay. Wes Craven is producing alongside Marianne Maddalena and Sean Cunningham. Shooting is scheduled to begin this month in South Africa (odd choice).
I am normally a very positive person with a good attitude, but I must admit I love making fun of this whole concept of some studio thinking they can remake Last House on the Left. First off - no studio has the fucking balls to remake this the way it should be remade! We all know it. This whole dog and pony show with this film is just to see if they can get a courtesy jerk out of a younger crowd and make a few bucks off Wes Craven's original masterpiece and concept. The original was all about jolting people with a very real kind of horror that actually could happen and didn't pull a single punch in doing it or showing it. Are there directors out there today who could make a movie like this - yes. Are there studios and producers willing to make this kind of movie - no! So I say if you are going to remake old movies to get some quick cash why keep picking our most sacred ones - pick some old crappy movie and remake it instead. It gets old watching these movie studio's blowing their loads over the memories of the old greats.
