February 13, 2009, the Valentine's Day that will be remembered for a hockey mask - and gallons of blood. That holiday weekend New Line Cinema and Platinum Dunes' Friday the 13th will bring the iconic Jason Voorhees back to the big screen for an insane twelve time. This sunny morning turned black as B-D was lucky enough to see some official development art for the film, which you can read about inside.
Jason Voorhees first entered my life back when I was six, and since then he has become one of my favorite icons of horror. The movies themselves hold a special place in my heart, but let's be honest... Jason has never really been scary. Even as a little (wussy) kid I could easily watch Jason slaughter his victims, while anytime Freddy Krueger graced my screen I would have to hold my hands over my eyes. JASON X was an abomination and I'm confident in saying I'm excited for the new film, which is said to make Jason more terrifying than ever before.
Last week I visited Platinum Dunes, the production company behind such remakes as TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, AMITYVILLE HORROR and THE HITCHER. While there I was treated to something I had not expected, something that nearly knocked me on my ass - I saw the potential art designs for the new Jason Voorhees, along with the possible poster art for FRIDAY THE 13!
What I saw was all temp, so the art design still needs to be approved, but what I was shown pretty rad. There were three different pieces of art lined up across the wall, two being a close-up of Jason Voorhees' face, the other a full body shot. They all had a very harsh green tint to them, which gave all the images an unsettling (and watery grave) look. Unfortunately I'll be destroyed if I go into details, but I'm quite sure it's going to please every one of you.
It's still insanely early to judge, but it looks like Platinum Dunes is on the right track and from what I hear this one is going to be BRUTAL. Keep your eyes posted here for more info in the coming weeks, maybe you'll catch a sneak peak at the art yourselves?
I'm really hoping against hope they don't make him look like he did(from the neck up) in parts 7 and up. And I still say.. no matter how bad Jason X was, it would have been cooler had they made him look like human/machine people from Virus. Not all fucking stupid, clean and comic bookish.
Okay so in other words they're remaking Friday the 13th Part 2? Or are they just making another sequel? I'm not sure if they really know what they're doing themselves.
should just be a sequel to part two because mrs. vorhees is the original killer from part one......eh i am still a jason fan so i guess ill check it out. as long its with people who can act and not some stupid teeny bopper who cant act there way out of a paper bag. plus this better be R not pg13 bring on the blood, gore and guts.
still worried, isnt markus nisple behind it. I really enjoyed the chansaw remake so i DO have hope but here a question.SHould micheal bay even be in the entertainment biz.. I think not. All he does is play to the unintellectual popcorn poppers how are dazzled by what a computer can do other than what the filmaker can do.Also, throw him back to when movies had no special effects and he would be done before film school graduation
Have faith. Even it is does turn out to be crap I'll be excitied for the rest of 08. Jason is the biggest bad ass in all of horror. He's the mans man of the genre. I can't wait.
Glad things look good, Mr. D, but you picked a strange pic to accompany this article. We've already had one guy assume that this image from JGTH was the drawing you saw, and there's bound to be more confusion. Unless this is the closest pre-existing Jason to the one planned for the new film, why select this pic for the piece?
Jesus man, that's it? You got us all worked up over nothing. No pics, no details, just "it's going to please every one of you".
And you've really gotta learn how to spell man. Twelve time? I guess it's being picky, but I figured knowing how to spell would be important to someone running a world class website. You know, so they don't come off as being stupid.
And JGTH was far far worse than Jason X.
If the choice is another Friday sequel or a remake, I fully support the remake. Like Halloween and Freddy, the sequel storylines have gotten so ridiculous. This could be really good if done right.
I hope they keep Jason in the "shadows" for most of the movie, like part 2.
I think it will be more effective like that, instead of showing him all the time, in his full glory.
Death Bed next to House Of The Dead Jason X was the worst movie ever made. I know they said Jason will have normal flesh colored skin but I don't really like that, he doesn't need to be a rotting magot infested mess but I would much rather see him look a little rotten and I really hope he still has one missing/messed up eye
Hey! Maybe Jason will look like Jason! And Crystal Lake will look like Crystal Lake!
OMFG I CAN'T WAIT.
Will this site whore itself to this remake as embarrassingly as it did for RZ's Halloween?
heeey Jason X had some seriously awesome death scenes... and Jason Goes to Hell was the same... except not enough JASON actually doing it. Isnt that what all these movies are about anyways? buncha haters...
God how many of you are really retarded enough that you can't tell the picture posted is from "Jason goes to Hell" and clearly not the new art for the remake? He needed a picture to stick in the story so he picked one from an existing friday film.
Fuck some of you idiots really give horror fans a bad name.
