OFFICIAL: Ellen Page Drops Out of 'Drag Me to Hell'

We have confirmed this afternoon that young Oscar nominated star Ellen Page (Juno, Hard Candy) has dropped out of Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell and that they are currently re-casting the role. We're told that "she didn't like the latest draft of the script," which I'm sure is completely BS - I bet this is just a case of "I almost won an Oscar cold feet". Good riddance I say. Universal's film, which will be directed by Sam Raimi, is a morality tale about the unwitting recipient of a supernatural curse.

Way to alienate a certain group of fans and film makers. Prolly looking for another role to win an Oscar, but it wasn't so much her acting that got her nominated as much as it was the phenom that Juno was that did. Its why she didnt win.

Jeez, or maybe, just maybe, she dropped out for other reasons? It happens all the time, don't jump to conclusions like "she thinks she's too good for horror". If she thought that, she wouldn't have signed on in the first place.

Saturday the 13th...... Maybe there would be other reasons, but given she dropped out what? Less then a month after signing on? So, we can use our brains that she thinks she has moved above the project in terms of her status as an actress, or maybe she thinks the project is going to suck, who knows.

I find it quite funny that people were excited when she was involved in the role, but as soon as news gets out that she dropped the role everyone pretends that they don't like her. Very mature. Idiots. Anyways, none of you know why she dropped out. Stop SUGGESTING and learn to report NEWS! FACTS!

Regardless of what the latest draft might be like, she still knew exactly what she was signing up for. To suddenly be unhappy with the script just a few weeks after signing on is quite suspicious.

If I was an actor and a revised crap script was put in front of me I'd drop out too. As one person said, if she really thought she was too good for horror, then she wouldn't have signed on in the first place. And it isn't "I almost won an Oscar" cold feet, considering she was already nominated when she took the role.

If she doesn't wanna do the movie, she doesn't do it. No need to get all pissy about it. I bet Sam Raimi isn't taking any shots at her about it.

I'll play Devil's advocate and take her side. She has a pretty good filmography for someone her age. Here's a good question: What if that screenplay does suck? Raimi last film, Spider-Man 3, was a bloated piece of emo garbage. Too many characters, not enough screen time for anyone. Basing off of what each person did last, I'd take Page's Juno nomination over Raimi's latest Spidey tale as an indicator of quality material.

Two things... First, I've read Drag Me to Hell... an older draft. 2006. And I won't get into it, but let's just say that in order for it to work with Ellen Page it would have to be set in Utah (way to young for the part, even if her last role was a tad promiscuous.) Second, if this movie turns out as good as the script, it'll be straight up, Evil Dead, great. No shit. Great. Be glad she's gone.

Yes! Good riddance to a good actress! Lets carry on siding with horror no matter how shit the film! *Rolls Eyes*

I'm not going to nit pick on the Actress that quit because this film is still in development [securing an oscar nominated actor for film makes the movie studio get a boner, but doesn't always make a film great]. I trust Sam Raimi knows what direction to take this film [personally, I'd like to see Bryce Dallas Howard in the role]. ~(^)~

who cares, didnt care when she signed on, dont care now. I just want to see Raimi's return to horror. If she thinks she is "to good" for horror, then fuck her, otherwise who gives a damn. Her loss.

She would've been good, but she seems like a smart person (usually ha good choices of roles).

How is it ever good riddance to lose an Oscar nominated actress? Anyway, I bet her agent advised her not to do the movie. She's young and she's getting a good reputation. Horror movies are genre films no matter what and it's hard to predict if they'll flop or not and if it does flop that could bring bad attention to her. I wouldn't be suprised to see her next in a drama or something that seems like it's going for the Academy Award types.

You know, maybe Ellen Page is like some other actors who like to get a lot of publicity by signing on to movies (so they get their names in the trades) before dropping out of them for some BS reason (getting their names in the trades again). All so they look super busy and keep their name out there. Like Denzel Washington and a number of other actors who sign on for $20 million play or pay deals then drop out for unknown reasons. Not that Ellen Page was going to make $20 million of this of course. But she could certainly be like a number of actors who sign on for things with no intention of ever following through (often using the latest draft of the script as an excuse to drop out).

I heard the film was pg-13. Maybe she dropped out for lack of gore. Keep in mind, Ellen has talked about Argento and is obviously a fan. And you could see her watching Wizard of Gore on Juno. (Juno will probally be bloodier than this shit.)
