As many of you know, Nick Palumbo's MURDER-SET-PIECES was the first film ever banned here on Bloody-Disgusting, specifically because of the filmmaker spamming our forum (not because of the gruesome content like he claims). Today it was announced that The British Board of Film Classification has banned the DVD release of Palumbo’s psychopathic sexual serial killer pic, giving it more publicity than it deserves. Too bad more people are going to submit themselves to this _____ film. Read on for the story.
The decision to outlaw the DVD, within the terms of the U.K.’s Video Recordings Act, was taken by David Cooke, BBFC director, and a team comprising Quentin Thomas, John Taylor and Janet Lewis-Jones.
The ruling comes a day after Prime Minister Gordon Brown expressed his concerns in Parliament over the potentially destructive social impact of violent films and vidgames. Recently, a cross-party group of politicians has been pushing for reform on violent and sexual material. If successful, the campaign could see the BBFC forced to toughen its stance.
“Rejecting a work outright is a serious matter and the board considered whether the issue could be dealt with through cuts,” commented Cooke. “However, given the unacceptable content featured throughout, and that what remains is essentially preparatory and set-up material for the unacceptable scenes, cutting the work is not a viable option in this case and the work is therefore refused a classification.”
A press release summarizing the ruling outlined the chief concerns: “ ‘Murder Set Pieces’ is a feature with a single-minded focus on the activities of a psychopathic sexual serial killer, who, throughout the film, is seen raping, torturing and murdering his victims. Young children are among those terrorized and killed, and their inclusion in this abusive context is an added concern. In relation to the adult victims, there is a clear focus on sex or sexual behavior accompanied by non-consensual pain, injury and humiliation.”
The BBFC rarely flat-out rejects applications for DVD release. The last DVD to fail at the fence was pornographic title “Struggle in Bondage,” (which features naked women tied-up, gagged and crying near throughout) in 2006.
Philadelphia-based DVD distrib TLA Releasing has the right to appeal the BBFC decision. But an overturning of the decision is unlikely given the BBFC suggests the pic “also raises potential legal questions, for instance in relation to the Protection of Children Act 1978, as well as possible breaches of other legislation such as that on obscenity. Having concluded that the work would in any case have to be rejected on grounds of harm and unacceptability to the public, the board did not think it necessary at this stage to reach a final view on these legal issues, but they would have to be considered in the event of any appeal.”
To stem the flow of copies may be difficult though: five copies of “Murder Set Pieces” from U.K. sellers were on sale on eBay.co.uk at time of press.
I don't know why this movie gets hated on so much. Sure the acting is terrible and there's no story line but that's what do you expect? This is a movie I watch when I'm in the mood for graphic sexual violence. Same as films like August Underground, Scrapbook or The Snuff Reels. As a horror fan sometimes that what I want. If I want horror with good acting I'll watch The Hills Have Eyes remake.
When I want dirty horror that makes me feel like I need a shower MSP does deliver.
I have only seen the rated 'R' version which totally sucked ass. I assume that what the Brits are getting huffy about was cut from the version I saw. It was slow, boring, and very little gore. I have no idea why they even bothered with the 'R' version. Terrible terrible terrible
Is th NC-17 verison of this film gruesome like many say or it is fuckin rip on our mind like they said about LIVE FEED and BROKEN... when everybody said it was very gory....
some one answer
MSP was a terrible piece of shit of a movie. Not the worst I've ever seen, but totally undeserving of any praise. We all have our opinions though I guess.
after months of hearing about this here in the forums, i decided to pick it up. thanks for the opportunity to suffer through the most disjointed, cliche ridden script ever. NOTHING shocking or disturbing at all. Anyone can throw red food dye on walls and call it shock.
Don't waste your time on the R rated version. Like I said the only redeeming value is the gore and rape. You have to get the unrated version.
Sure the script was bad. I don't watch a movie like this for the script.
What about the scene where the tottler walks out and finds it's mother's corpse...awesome.
That idiot spammed the IMDb boards as well along with his shills. Also anyone who disagrees with them about anything they attacked them. I refuse to see the movie. The director is such an idiot
I wouldn't watch this if you paid me too. Honestly, I wouldn't mind if it was just gory. But sex and violence don't go together. Or atleast they shouldn't. Sure, call me a pussy, but some stuff just goes too far.
This movie is pure shit, and it was disposable shit surely to be forgotten, that is until the scene with the baby girl crying over her "dead" mommy. (The actress was her real mother)That shit is uncalled for and could potentally psychology harm the child, all for a crap movie. >sigh<
Oh, and is it just me or did droppedatbirth earn his name just now?
I agree with droppedatbirth and mostly everyone else this movie did totally suck ass just purely horrible acting but its just one of those movies you would want to watch just for shock value.
Banned for spamming? So you block him and move on. But really, this is a horror site, shouldnt you be putting horror related material on here for your readers instead of editing out stuff because you got annoyed? How childish.
i didnt see it yet but i saw its over on www.movies.nabolister.com. for free. so i guess if you dont wanna go through a hastle to see a shitty movie check it out for free
""Banned for spamming? So you block him and move on. But really, this is a horror site, shouldnt you be putting horror related material on here for your readers instead of editing out stuff because you got annoyed? How childish.""
Very childish. This site needs new writers...
And even by posting this you're giving Pullumbo exactly the sort of notoriety that he wants. Nice job.
Some people like horror (which I do) some people love hardcore horror.
It doesn't make us psycho's. When I watch a movie that claims to be hardcore; that's exactly what I want.
I know I'm not alone. There's tons of people out there collecting the worst of the worst: Men Behind the Sun, In A Glass Cage, Scrapbook. The list goes on. There's tons of great movies that most people consider garbage. By the way all the movies listed above are far superior to MSP.
This movie wasn't made for people who consider The Ring horror. It's for people who don't care about script, plot, pacing or dialogue for a couple hours and want to roll in the red stuff. And sorry folk but us people are out there...
Oh, whatever...will the controversy ever die for this film? I think the original WORKPRINT/Theatrical version of this film is a masterpiece. All "official" DVDs totally ruin the film. Even the "unrated" one is missing a TON of scenes originally included in the theatrical print. Either way, I agree it's still horror related (and a damn good film if you ask me) and just because Nick "suppossedly" spammed this place doesn't mean you can deny that this is a powerful film. All good artists are a little crazy...
However, I feel that this is a film that does not need explaination. It must be seen to be fully understood. Calling it "shitty" and "bad" makes no sense to me. I'd call it one of the best horror films of the new millenium (in it's proper version ofcourse!). And that's MY honest opinion.

There IS a god ;p. And Palumbo was banned for MUCH more than just spamming. A book could be written about those few months when you couldn't swing a machete without hearing about that bloody movie and tha antics of Palumbo and his Hitler Youth shills. I have an original VHS screener Palumbo sent out way before everything started hitting the fan, never cut by ANYONE but the original editor. And that wasn't Palumbo. Wonder what THAT would fetch on eBay as it is different from all the other "versions" that have been released... Any bidders?
