Plans for Multiple 'Signal' Transmissions!

This past week B-D reporter SpookyDan took some time out of his busy schedule to go one-on-one with with Jacob Gentry, Dan Bush and David Bruckner - the three directors behind Magnolia Pictures' The Signal (review), which arrives in theaters everywhere this Friday. During the interview we discovered that there are plans for more films in the future. Read about it inside.

Jacob Gentry tells us, "We have been exploring the world of The Signal in many different ways. This movie is just three “transmissions”, and we have all kinds of them that we can deal with. We maybe have already even shot to film some others (hint, hint) because there are millions. Some we have on paper some through a paint brush. The Signal pushes you in a direction that preys upon your fears and desire. It doesn’t have a personality; we don’t know what its agenda is, so we have talked about what we could do on a sequel with a bigger budget.

The this movie is a very personal story, and what the world starts to look like at the beginning. But how will the people start to organize under this pervasive signal is a few weeks later. How does society restructure itself, when the rules have changed in the world? That is where we would like to go.
"

In the film, it’s New Year’s Eve in the city of Terminus and chaos is this year’s resolution. All forms of communication have been jammed by an enigmatic signal that preys on the fears and desires of everyone in the city. Told in three parts from three unique perspectives by three visionary directors, The Signal is a horrific journey towards discovering that the most brutal monster might actually be within all of us.

I'm definitely looking forward to this film. Nice to hear of a possible franchise. Saw has dominated the cinema for far too long and it's time for some new blood in the genre.
