Nacho Cerda Documents '70s Spanish Horror!

One of a lot of my friends' favorite foreign film last year was Nacho Cerda's The Abandoned, and prior to the release Nacho has blown everyones minds with his short films Aftermath/Genesis. Over the weekend we caught up with the director to see what's next on his plate and what he has sounds incredibly interesting! Read on for the skinny.

Cerda tells us that he's been off working on a new doc about the Spanish film industry! "I am actually in post-production on a documentary called Coffin of Light, a look back on the Spanish horror film industry of the '70s," he continues talking about who is also involved. "[The doc features] interviews to Paul Naschy, Jess Franco, Amando de Ossorio, Narciso Ibañez Serrador and many others. It follows Sergio del Monte, cinematographer turned director who was murdered mysteriously three days into the making of his film debut, apparently due to some of the issues he dealt with in his picture." The story gets creepy, check this out... "According to the facts, he was using some very revolutionary lighting technics to show an alternative reality that our eyes can't see. After his death, some producers involved in the backing of such project also died from a brain tumor after watching the remaining footage. As it is stated in our documentary, it is suspected that in reality, these deaths were caused by extreme right wing groups who after Franco's death were afraid the regime to fall apart so they went onto a killing spree in order to preserve their continuity. It is a very interesting theme that's ever been explored in film."

We'll keep you posted on the development on this project, which sounds INSANE!

Awesome i hope he will be done soon, this project have been well known in spain for quite a long since nacho has been working on it since mid 90´s and it gained cult status even before release. Apparently some people saw footage in the early stages of production and i read in some genre magazines that it was something very new, good and promising. Seems he had trouble to finishing the project so i hope now it gets done and released soon. he had so far shot over 31 hours of footage and to edit that in a documentary over barely an hour long is a long process.

Bout time we found out what he's up to. Everything he's done is genius. Can't wait to look really hard and probably never find this movie.

"One of a lot of my friends' favorite foreign film last year" sounds like you weren't a fan of the film.

sounds really awesome and interesting. i wasn't to big into 'The Abandoned' (except for the last 10-15 minutes), but 'Aftermath/Genesis' is an all-time favorite.
