Not only has director Darren Lynn Bousman added a new jingle/score piece from his upcoming horror-musical Repo! The Genetic Opera (trailer), but he also sent B-D an update on the project. Head over to MySpace for the "Geneco Commercial Jingle" and then read on to read about why the film is delayed, what Bousman has planned for the film and how much craziness will be in it. In the not-so-distant future when an epidemic of organ failures devastates the planet, scientists gear for a massive organ harvest. A biotech giant comes up with easy organ payment plans, but all financed organs are subject to legal default, including repossession at the hands of repo men.
We checked in REPO! director Darren Lynn Bousman who updated us on the progress of the film. "Repo - has turned out to be a MUCH bigger process than anyone first thought," he continues, "We have over 50 songs - on top of that, numerous jingles – and score pieces ... Its taken a long time to compose - master, and mix." In addition to the music, the VFX has also caused a delay, "Also the visual effect process is growing in size - I started off having a vision of a couple visual effects here and there... Well lets cut to three months later - where a couple visual effects has turned into over 200 visual effects... including set extensions, CGI elements, etc."
Even cooler, Bousman explains that the film now has animation in it! "Also, something I am excited about – is the animation – we have quite a bit of animation in the movie – drawn by none other than TERRANCE ZDUNICH (who also plays one of the leads GRAVEROBBER and the writer) he couldn’t begin drawing until the movie was locked – as a lot of what we was drawing was based on completed visual effects, etc."
Bousman continues by explaining what is left to do before his passion project is perfect. "Long and short – we are speeding along at a rapid pace trying to get this movie done – but at the same time – this is a movie that I have been fighting to get made for what seems like forever… I want to do it right… This is my passion project – and when it goes out to the world – I want to be proud – and not ‘wish’… wish I had done this… Wish I had shot that… Thank God I have producers who have been so supportive and have let me take the time I need to finesse this film."
The good news is that the picture is locked, so now it's all clean-up from here on out. "I can report that we did just lock picture, and have begun the sound editing process… I so super excited as this is a musical – and now we have begun the post sound – so it should be a riot!”
Bousman is a smart cookie. He has learned the tricks on the SAW movies and is now doing his dream project so early in his career. Damni'm psyked for this.
