Originally slated for release on October 31 by MGM, we've learned that the studio has scrapped the "remake" idea and has sold the rights to the Motel Hell franchise to Twisted Pictures, the dudes behind Saw, Dead Silence and the upcoming Repo! The Genetic Opera. It isn't clear what they'll be doing with the film, but we're told they're going to turn it into a brand new original franchise. In the original Farmer Vincent kidnaps unsuspecting travellers and is burying them in his garden. Unfortunately for his victims, they are not dead. He feeds his victims to prepare them for his roadside stand. His motto is: It takes all kinds of critters...to make Farmer Vincents fritters. The movie is gory, but is also a parody of slasher movies like Last House on the Left.
Also cannot wait to see who they get to Direct and star. I heard a rumor a few weeks ago MGM was trying to get Jodi Lynn O'Keefe to play the lead...wonder if that was scrapped?
The original Motel Hell is a classic. It doesn't need a remake...atleast not by the makers of SAW! Why TWISTED PICTURES of all people? Their films are way too Mtv-style flashy, loose on the plot and the dialogue is also usually pretty bad. The original SAW was O.K. but the sequels were pretty bad and I HATED Dead Silence. And they are creating a franchise out of it??? Oh great...
ANOTHER remake?!!? Why can't they leave Horror's history the way it is? What was wrong with it the first time? This doesn't happen as much in other genres, you don't see them remaking "Gone With The Wind" do ya? Jeez.....
