We broke the news that Sony's Stage 6 would be working on a prequel to Vacancy (review), their film that didn't perform all too well in theaters (only $19 mil domestically). Well today we scored not only the synopsis for the direct-to-video prequel, but we also found out who will be directing the film! You can find all the goods inside.
The plotline for Vacancy 2 sounds pretty familiar, oh wait it's the same movie! When JESSICA, her fiancé CALEB and Caleb's buddy TANNER check into the lonely Meadow View Inn in the middle of rural nowhere, they have no idea that the motel is run by a homicidal maniac and two vicious greedheads who are making a bloody dollar by selling snuff films on the black market...
Eric Bross - who is pretty new to the genre - will be directing the film from a screenplay by Mark L. Smith, who wrote the first film.
So instead of making the original film ballsy enough to kill everyone off at the end and leave the killers alive for a sequel, they pull the lame ass prequel route. Lame.
ahah, I had to laugh at Sin, who wrote "This will probably go direct-to-DVD"... nooo, yeh think? what gave it away? The fact that this is in the DVD section, the facts that Sony's straight to DVD company, Stage 6 Films was releasing it, OR the fact that there's a BIG "(V)" next to the title? The first one was disappointing, this one won't be any better.
I thought the 1st Vacancy was very good. I was hoping there would be a sequel so Kate Beckinsale could come back. They should get Elisha Cuthbert to do this. I still want there to be a sequel because Vacancy didnt really end. It just went black. How do we know the killer is really dead? But anyway I think a prequel is a good idea because we'll find out more about the killers and, why they started killing.
