Trailer Park: Shyamalan's 'The Happening'
Monday, February 4, 2008

If I hadn't already seen The Signal or read Cell I might be interested in M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening, which hits theaters June 13. Today the teaser trailer for the film arrived online and can be found inside. The film looks like a post apocalyptic horror-thriller where man turns on itself and begins to kill each other... only the twist we've been told is RIDICULOUS. Fingers crossed something changed along the way. Read on for the trailer and watch for more soon.

The trailer looks good. I hope it's better then his last two movies.

We all know this movie is going to suck the ass end out of a skunk. But on a positive note - we are all going to have a blast dogging on this movie here in this 'comments' section. Let me get the next person to comment here off to a good start. Begin by saying "This movie will fucking suck because......."

Because it will be rated PG-13.

Let me guess M. Night just finished reading Stephen King's book "Cell", and the idea just came to him.

This guy bores the hell out of me. And I'm sick of him and his lame ass twist ending movies. Make a good fucking movie, don't rely on some stupid ass twist at the damn end because it by the time it comes I'm bored to tears.

Films with similar concepts always seem to be released in pairs, don't they? I imagine M. Night's film will get more traffic JUST BECAUSE he's a populalr name, but we'll see which film is actually better... you know, quality-wise. And yeah, I'm usually intrigued by his films UP UNTIL THE END. It's unfortunate that he gets off on attempting to "woo" the audience.

This movie will fucking suck because M. Night Sing-A-Long is a hack job. Can't write worth a shit, and always has some shit unbelievable end ala "The Village." Fucking Gaytarded!!!! I will rent it on Netflix in about 8 months and get drunk and laugh at it. I also made a movie titled "The Happening" in college. I should sue him for ripping off my title and making people thinking my movie sucks! I made it for shits and giggles! Swing-Away!!!!

I think it has something to do with water not only killing aliens, but killing people.

Why'd they bite you?

i was stoked till I saw wahlberg was in it. either way, this genre of horror is always good fun. i.e. The Signal was all kinds of good and I will for sure hit the theater for this one

Looks good. Although, the last Night movie I liked was Signs, Sixth Sense before that.

Didn't they say this was his first R rated feature? Why do people keep saying it's PG-13?

This is supposed to be an R rated film and from the teaser it looks like it might be decent. I am not a fan of this director at all. His movies are you garden variety Hollywood "horror" films. Signs to me was one of his worst. I could at least stomach the Village eventhough "it" was coming from a mile away.

It looks interesting enough. I've always liked a good "End of the World" story and it's been quite a while since I've seen one in a movie that "didn't" involve zombies. I think Shyamalan would do well to simply use it to illustrate one of many possible socio-political ideas than to try and blow our minds with an arrogant and often insulting ending twist. I'm willing to believe he could make a much better movie if he didn't write it from the ending backward.

from the teaster it doesnt look to me like people start killing each other... it looks like people start killing themselves... i thought the village was a pretty decent movie, as well as signs and 6th sense and unbreakable. none of them were astounding, but they all had their moments and did well what they aimed to do... unbreakable was a comic book hero and villain come to life, minus the theatrics of the graphic novel genre. 6ht sense and signs were both thrillers with glimpses at horror moments, and admittedly cheesy moments. the village was also a sci-fi thriller/drama, though it was *not* "signs+monster instead of alien" which is how it was sodl and that is the false advertising that made everyone hate it... everyone expected something scary and it was never intended to be scary... however, with all that praise, i agree the writing is not the best, it resorts to cheese every once and a while, and the dependence upon the plot twist ending is stale. however, that aside, and also ignoring the fact the for some idiotic reason people keep hiring mark walhberg for movies, this film doesnt look bad, especially since it is getting an R rating and not conceding to some random producers desire to appease the MPAA and get more high school wallets into the theater.

The Happening is going to suck because..... Oh wait I haven't seen the movie yet and neither have any of you wastes of space hating on this movie already.

man dont turn on itself and start killing each other..they start to commit suicede in the most bizzare ways and in the end it turns out that the tree(yes the trees) are making them do that..cause they are pissed at the man kind so they are emitting some sort of nerve gases which is driving people insane..simple..

I seem to recall reading somewhere that it involves psychotic psychic trees and plantlife giving off some unsavory vibes that make people all demented and twitchy, sounds like a good time to me, praise the Lord and pass the ammo!

Every M. Night Shyamalan film has been predictable and boring to the point of it not being entertaining. A waste of time and money.

I dont like any of this guys movies except Unbreakable, the rest are all garbage.

I don't know, I really hate this guy. The trailer shows signs of promise but I just don't trust him after the last few films he put out.

I loved Signs, The Village and The Sixth Sence, but I thought that the rest was garbage. In my review for "lady in the water" I said that, what M.Night needs to do, is to make a real nice R-Rated Horror to save my opinion on his latest work... now im starting to think that he may do the right thing. Allthough I hate Mark W.

The sixth sense was good even though the kid was annoying. Unbreakable was decent, even though the kid was annoying. Signs was bad and had annoying kids. The village...ughhh. Lady in the water...I walked out of the theater. I`ve only done that for 2 other films...A.I. and A japanese movie called Casshan. Shyamalamadingdong is getting worse with every movie. wait for the DVD. Don`t support this kind of crap in the theater. It just encourages more.

There isn't any real twist to this film as the article portrays - in fact, the script and plot are well known and were on the web 3 years ago so anyone doing 5 minutes of research figured out the plot. First off, the movie is about inexplicable mass suicides across America (not about people killing each other...I don't like Shyamalan either but he didn't rip off the cell). Mankind finds out that the very plants (especially trees) that produce oxygen are now also producing a neurotoxin causing hallucinations and suicidal mania. It appears polution and environmental chaos has triggered a defense mechanism in plants...and the movie further speculates this may be the actual cause for the extinction of the dinosaurs (environmental balance). Pretty lame if you ask me.

"it was *not* "signs+monster instead of alien" which is how it was sodl and that is the false advertising that made everyone hate it..." no, everyone hated it because it was a poorly written piece of garbage.
