About Those Robert Englund Rumors...
Monday, February 4, 2008

Ever since we broke the news (and it was confirmed) that New Line Cinema would be remaking A Nightmare on Elm Street, speculation has blasted on the web on whether or not Robert Englund will return as Freddy Krueger in the film, being produced by Platinum Dunes. One website reports that he'll return, while another claims he won't. A lot of times different parties don't see eye-to-eye, which could be the case here, but OUR sources tell us that not only is it too early to tell (no writers attached yet), but it is still quite possible that Englund could return in some way shape or form - creative meetings haven't even begun as of yet. Watch for official news in the coming months and watch this spot for any updates as they come in.

If they make this movie without Robert, they do not understand what a mistake that is. It's pointless

If he isn't Freddy then Wildey is right, it's like punching the fans of the originals in the face. I wont support that crap either.I don't give a shit if they throw his ass in there as someone else or for some ridiculous cameo.

Seriously if Robert isnt freddy its going to make the remake of halloween protest look like nothing. Ive been waiting and dreaming that one day they would make another nightmare, not just some crappy sideshow (freddy vs jason, new nightmare(the only nightmare part of that was watching the whole movie)) But Robert needs to be in this movie, if not its going to be worse than a direct to video movie.

Please let Robert play Freddy. Who the hell could ever be as good at Freddy then him. The fans will snap if he's not Freddy.

I just read on fangoria that rob will not be doing it.... He said....“I think there is always room for new interpretations by using the new tecnology,” he tells the site. “In the past, they were talking about a prequel. Anyway, I’m too old for this new version, otherwise it would be FREDDY VS. VIAGRA.” found at http://fangoria.com/news_article.php?id=5856 are you kidding me...your FREDDy don't put some punk ass in the makeup...OH wait it will all be CGI... fuck that if he dosn't do i WILL NOT SEE IT, and michael bay is really good and lataly everything he produce was pretty entertaining but they can't ruin this, I grew up on FREDDY... let there be hope we should all write to Rob...

I have been a fan of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies since I was 4 and saw Nightmare on Elm Street three on tv. Robert Englund as freddy is a proven positive financial decision and not having him in it will force me not to see the movie or buy the dvd when it takes three weeks to get on there.

Im obviously in the minority here but I dont want Englund to return for a remake. Its a remake....lets try something different.

there not stupid, then again maybe they are? it wont matter who plays Freddy to the people who just go to see them casually, but to anyone who knows who he is, and esspecially the horror crowd will not accept this, i know i wont go and see a englundless Nightmare movie, even if he is cast in a role of someone else, it just wont happen.

He would do it for free....he more than likely needs the cash...."nightmare" part 1-scary,"all the other 45 sequels-gay.....

Put it this way, the elm street franchise is going to live forever... and past our time, personally think about it this way! how about they replace freddy, but let robert englund direct it! just like he's doing with "the vij" or whatever... he could create it... it would be true to the franchise... he just wouldn't be playing him!

chrisby

And also it would still connect true to the franchise in my opinion...

it's to early to say. but a new franchise needs a new freddy. robert could be part of it somehow.

y the heck do u need a NEW freddy????? WHO COULD PLAY him? some stupid twentysomething who cant act his way out of a paper bag???????....robert made this series on who he is known as for today.....plus id rather have a prequel not a remake so that some stupid teeny boppers can ruin a franchise that i have loved since i was a kid!...and plus so that they can "tone it down" meaning less gore, less blood, and whopdidingdadoo have the suspence of just having people jump out of there seats pg13 crap......blah...robert=freddy

I love robert england... but i would kinda like to see somone else's take on freddy... as crazy as that may sound, it would be different... i guess im on the fence on this one

appleOFdiscord

if they replaced Englund then that would probably mean one thing: a much more serious Freddy Krueger. So it won't be just that Englund will be gone but the Freddy we all love will change as well, and i am not happy with changes done on Leatherface (for example) and that wasn't even a difficult task replacing the character nor was it replacing Jason in some films including FvsJ but Englund IS Freddy, its not just a mask and its not just a mute zombie killer

On one side i see the point and AGREE that Rnglund should return as the infamous Krueger. On the other hand, you didnt see the same guy who played Micheal Meyers in the Rob Zombie remake reprise his shatner mask either, and I found the newer Micheal to be more threatening honestly (but no one will ever replace the scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis, that tweeny bitch couldnt pull it off.) It might be interesting to have Robert play more his pre-dream demon side in perhaps flashbacks and maybe even a REALLY BETTER REMADE burning to death scene (final nightmare DIE IN HELL!) and then have either him or someone who is REALLY good and exceptable to play a more horrifyingly demonic embelishment of Freddy in the dreams of the elm street children. In my honest opinion I want Robert through and through, no question about it. I wouldnt mind a remake, as I agree with others here that no matter what you cant replace an original. Its become fused into our culture and their is no eracing it. A complete overhaul could be okay, then again why mess with a successful story? Sure rob zombie fleshed out the meyers history to a better understanding for the newer generation and perhaps even the older generation, but the original plot of ANOES is what made it so successful. Lets just wait and see what pops up in the future and go from there.
