AICN is reporting that Universal has taped Brett Ratner to helm the remake of The Wolfman, and Harry will have none of that calling out the studio for making a terrible decision, and I for one agree. It's truly disheartening being so excited for a film and then in one quick swoop having it all thrown back in your face. Go read Harry's thoughts and share opinions here or over at AICN - thanks to the internet we can make a difference. No word yet on if the cast has remained in tact or if Uni will make their February 13, 2009 date.
This is probably one of the few times I'll actually agree 100% with Harry. It's true, Ratner has made watchable films. But, watchable is the nicest term to use. X3 is a great example. He came in, using Singer's art and concept and made the worst film in the franchise. This is what he's going to do here. Granted, X3 is watchable but it was disappointing and could have been soooo much better. The Wolfman is a character driven movie and he's terrible with actors. Enough said.
Bret will not mess up this movie. He was successful with X-3 since Singer has no idea about the X-men since he did not do his research like Bret has done along with having less time to do the film without any of his revisions to the screenplay and script. He was very instrumental with producing Prison Break that has garnered popularity and interest in the series. He's a proven director and producer who should be given a shot at a different genre like James Wan had when he did Death Sentence.
FUCKING BOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Hieian... Brett's 3rd Xmen flick was the worst of the 3... atleast the first 2 had emotional depth to it, the 3rd was just lame
The box office receipts say otherwise and Ratner's was the only X-men film that I did not wait until it was released on DVD. Since I have read the comic books, Ratner's direction was closer to it than any of Singer's versions. If the first two films were great, then why did X-3 have the biggest opening ever for any X-men film while Superman Returns turned out to be such a big flop since it was done by the same people who did those first two X-men films?
What the fuck is wrong with these people? Do they think that Ratner is the go to guy for failed production starts?? WAKE UP! He is not some knight in shining armor. Are they seriously wanting to fuck this remake up too? He already fucked up the X-MEN franchise.
Sorry Hieian, but your opinions are in the minority. X3 was a huge dissapointment, sure it did have a big opening...but that just ment a lot of people went to see it, it doesn't mean they liked what they saw. Ratner dropped the ball, he could have had great things with characters like Angel but he didn't use him. You also have to remember, the Wolf Man is NOT a action flick. It's more character driven and honestly Ratner can't do shit about films like that.
well that's it, Hollywood is OFFICIALLY is the fucking shitter. This is the biggest bunch of bull shit i've heard in a long time. People get upset with remakes for good reason, but this, this surpasses all bull shit hollywood blunders, this is the mother of all fuck ups, way to go universal, you stupid bastards. This pisses me off. I can't stand Ratner as a person or any of his AWFUL films.
Wolfblood, if X-3 was such a disappointment in your opinion, then why did it make (according to boxofficemojo.com)$122M on its opening weekend for it to be the highest opening for any X-men film? That's not a disappointment unless it made less than X-men and X-2 on their opening weekends and their entire theatrical run. As far as the Wolf Man not being an action flick, it doesn't matter since other directors have directed films that are outside of their area like James Wan with Death Sentence.
Because the general public don't give a shit about who helms the movie... they dont look for anything but action and explosions with absolutely no emotional depth to the characters... Sorry, but it was a fatty disappointment
Let's see Hieian, I said in my last post that with the large opening of the film...it just ment a lot of people went to see it that opening weekend. It never ment all those people LIKED WHAT THEY SAW. Just because a film has a huge opening doesn't mean it's going to be well reviewed by the people. Oh yes, you never mentioned how good X3 did AFTER it's opening weekend...if it was a good film then it shoudn't have dropped in the rankings like it did.
Exactly. X3 opened huge due to having a good rep and of course popularity. After that though it quickly fizzled. With such a huge opening like that it should have gone to make atleast 300 or more million. Instead it only did 10 million more than X2 which only pulled 85 million in it's opening.
Started big, fizzled quickly. That's not a sign of being a great film.
Wolfblood and HighlyTENSE, everybody knows that when a movie opens that big on its opening weekend, it's not going to remain like that for the following week since most of them would experience a big drop of 50% to 70%. Why don't both of you go over to boxofficemojo.com to check it out? Also, when it was released on DVD, it was the #1 DVD for sales and rentals. Both of you could post those opinions about how bad that film was, but those numbers and rankings shows how much both of you need to do your reading and research on websites like boxofficemojo.com and box office prophets to figure out the real deal about films that are great and not great.
Why does it matter who is going to direct what sure is to be a bad film? If Rosie O'Donnel made a porno, would it really matter if Spielberg directed it? Too many remakes of the same concept is just that - too many remakes of the same concept! Fuck that hairy bastard already.
