'Cloverfield' Monster Has History, More Sequel Talk!
Sunday, January 27, 2008

After exceeding expectations and destroying the MLK box office record by taking in more than $46 million over the holiday weekend, it's no shock that there is talk of Bad Robot and Paramount doing a sequel to JJ Abrams' Cloverfield (all reviews). Today I was reading the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly - featuring Heath Ledger on the cover - and there was a small article on the giant monster movie. Both producers JJ Abrams and Bryan Burk talk about sequel possibilities and where it might go. Read on for the skinny.

Bad Robot producer JJ Abrams tells EW that he's in no rush to get a sequel rolling because he wants to make sure it keeps the integrity of the original. "I wouldn't want to rush into it because of the heat on the movie - Id want to do something that is true to the spirit of what we made."

Producer Bryan Burk adds that the creative team "has fleshed out an entire backstory which, if we're lucky, we might get to explore in future films."

EW writes that possible plots include an attack on another city or telling the same New York event from another perspective.

In CLOVERFIELD, five young New Yorkers throw their friend a going-away party the night that a monster the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city. Told from the point of view of their video camera, the film is a document of their attempt to survive the most surreal, horrifying event of their lives.

Retelling the same night from another perspective doesn't sounds that good of an idea, the attack on a different town sounds way better, specially if we want to know about the monster origins, let's wait and see.

hmmm i actually like it... would kinda be like saw 3 and 4... both at the same time... but at different perspectives... this way it's the same movie at the same time.. but you can see different things... i personally haven't seen it... but am looking foward to it... but if they did do another city? which one... no other city would be like an attack on new york!

remember when rob says "IT'S LIKE A NIGHTMARE!" well, let's hope they don't consider this plotline (it was all a dream)

Please don't take offense, but I thought(opinion)the monster was lame. It looked like a giant deformed hairless monkey

It did look like a lame monster. but it did do some carnage. I would love to see a sequel, but PLEASE DONT MAKE IT FROM ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE if u look closely at the bridge getting destroyed theres another person recording. hud sees him and starts to record him. when hud then moves to the burning ship the guy is taping him. so just letting u guys know that making another perspective might happen but lets hope not. AND WHEN R THEY GOIN TO SHOW A GOOD PIC OF THE MONSTER

The monster was lame??? WOW... I suppose theses people who say this could come up with something better.

Chrisby...this is at least the second time you've said you don't see the monster in the movie. Just go see the thing and you'll see plenty of the monster. But like any really good monster movie, they save the reveal and don't just throw it in your face in the first ten minutes.

I dont know how many times people have to tell this "chrisby" kid that the monster IS IN THE MOVIE!!! Go see the fucking movie in a theater!! stop watching shitty bootlegs on the internet! get off your lazy ass and go see this movie! your missing out.. and as for the sequel it would pretty much have to be done how the first one was.. except show footage from another persons point of view.. it would be cool if they showed rob and his crew running across a street, and the other camera guy filmed them running from the monster! When they came out with that blair witch book of shadows or what ever the fuck it was called, it just compleatly fucked up the whole thing.. i still think its the worse movie ever made! they cant go that route. even a different city would be weird.. mabey it could work.. idk

Yeah what's with that dude that keeps saying you don't see the monster? You see it plenty, more than I expected, and it looks fucking badass, way more badass than I expected. This movie was fantastic, though I did have to look away from the screen a few times because I was getting nauseous. As for a sequel, I would rather not see a retelling of the same night, I would rather see a new city and maybe even a new monster

SEQUEL: The monster attacks another U.S. city. Japan offers help by dispatching GODZILLA. Godzilla comes to the u.s. for an epic battle over Chicago.

Killskilz best idea EVER but I would like to see lots of monster's and they just go nuts destorying everything. And when this is going on we fine out that NY is under attack too somebody saids it's everywhere.

The comments on the monster being lame is obviously from people who have seen the drawings posted here on BD. Just to let u know those pictures are in fact authentic, but only because it gets most of the features of the monster and the parasites. Those pics of the Cloverfield monster are in my opinion Disney versions of the actual monster in the movie because the monster itself is more like an overgrown monster featured in the game Gears of War. As for Chrisby I think he just wants attention because he personally can't afford to go see Cloverfield and well for all of us that did we know that the monster was in fact shown in it's entirity. That means u see all of the monster Chrisby. The monster is seen at pieces at a time and once you get to closer to the end u see the monster completely and even in a close up. If they decide to do the movie in another person's perspective that's fine as long as they don't do it from the beginning where the monster first attacks but later like starting at the bridge attack. I say this so we can actually go further into the movie after the monster is attacked at the end. BTW Chrisby I'm a Saw fan as well, but I can also afford to see other movies, lol.

It doesn't matter how many times you tell chrisby something, because apparently the walls of his rectal canal prevent sound from reaching his ears. He knows damn well that the monster is clearly visible in the film. He'd just prefer to stir up shit and trash talk movies he decided months before their release that he would hate.

COME THE FUCK ON PEOPLE, GODZILLA, why is it when you speak about moster movies it has to be godzilla. Micheal Myers wasnt norman bates. PLus that ides from killskillz is so lame. The great thing about cloverfield wasnt the monster, it was the people that the monster affected. Think about when ben had to tell his mother that his brother was dead, was i the only one chocked up!. plus arclight, the host showed the monster in like ten min so it all depends on what the director is trying to convey. the monster is not lame and an attack on another us city would be garbage. It would be tracked and any citythe thing gets neer would be evacuated on the spot! No SEQULE!, just triple dip the hell out of it and make a theme park ride or something for fuck sake.

chrisby
1:37am, January 28, 2008

sounds pathetic... and not one person yet! has actually proved that you see the monster... it's been out for like more than a week now... BUT THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE FRIGGIN IMAGE OF THE FUCKING MONSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

zombienut07
1:55am, January 28, 2008

hey chrisby, GO SEE THE FUCKING MOVIE, you see the monster alot. stop bashing movies you cant even pay for or chose not see, we r tired of hearing your bullshit about not seeing the monster like i said stop bitching and go see it and stop being a bitch.

Chrisby, I created an account on this website just so I could say that you are an idiot. You probably don't need to see the movie - you should probably stay and watch something more on your level - like Barney & Friends. Jeez, would an admin please delete this moron's account, already?

ritualkiller69
8:24am, January 28, 2008

Yes, You do see the monster plenty! The "other perspective" could work, if it's shown through military recordings. Maybe they could show the military tracking the thing in the ocean before it descends on NYC! I think that would be cool.

9:25am, January 28, 2008

With a 68% drop in box-office it's second week, I think Paramount will be second-guessing the sequel talk. This should play well in Japan, though.

South_park300
11:07am, January 28, 2008

@ TheMadMime: you couldnt be more wrong. Cloverfield is on its way to make DOUBLE its budget, and this is in the US alone, AND before dvd sales. they would be stupid not to make a sequel

slitwristthoery
11:40am, January 28, 2008

the madmime, its still at number 4. thats pretty good. I like the idea for the both. just don't make it a normal movie.

gezz, you see the monster. its just that you have to wait to he the hole thing till the end. You have to use your imagination through alot of it, something todays audiences mostly dont have, intill the end. Hell you get a an up and down shot at the end of the film, FROM FUCKING HEAD TO TOE! see you morons

11:59am, January 28, 2008

I have to say I rather see the monster destroying another city and maybe some more background story to the monster than to see it from another perspective. As far as the monster being lame, i have to disagree, I thougth it looked awsome. I mean I can see where the monkey reference would come in cause I thought of it also. Probably more the arms than anything. Other wise it reminded me of a deep sea fish.

KT here anyway Cloverfield 2 would be a good movie if it was the same night from another perspective IF KEY WORD IN THERE "IF", we saw what happened near the shore when it first landed and what happens after the finale of cloverfield 1, like to see if it died. and me personally I thought it was a skinny limbed Rancor with a long tail and spider eyes from Star Wars just 10 times bigger see the movie first talk later. It was a great monster it's offspring where freaking fast as F*** and I noticed during the last 10 minutes the monster seemed to be after Rob personally from the final run down the street to knocking down the chopper to centeral park. the pictures of the black and white sketch of the monster on DB ARE NOT THE MONSTER along with that fish face thing but the one that has the blurred head is the closest thing to the movie just imagine the rancors face and mouth with eyes like a spider and you got it... Now this gets me to wondering in CF2 if the military covers up most news coverage that they can and say terrorist did it or do they allow the public to know and we're looking at something like the next terminator movies where it's a fight to survive since that thing seemed pretty unstoppable and those offspring move pretty fast and were able to get into tunnels where they could nest and spread throught the US

Respect
7:09pm, January 28, 2008

they should have it start like a couple of minutes before 1 ended.then have it cross over by showing rob and beths body.and half way through how liz getting off the helicopter and wondering weres rob,hud and beth.what if there was more than one monster attack that night......nah,i doubt it.lol

Queen_of_the_damned

First let me say that movie was HOT! I loved how it wasn't really a monster movie but about a group of people were affected by this thing. But at the same time it gave you alot of action and yes a little blood. A sequel would be great if they did it from a different person's take on it with a different camera. I like that idea. Or they can just have it pick up where it left off with Beth and Rob. Either way I want more lol.

I'm tired of reading Chrisby's bitching, so here's a gif that shows the Cloverfield monster: http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2008/01/17/images/clov erfieldsmallslowhu0.gif. If u do not want to have the movie spoiled then do not click on the link. The gif is a bit dark, but that is indeed the monster.

Hey I thought it was cool as monster flick and yes hate to admit it but this monster was better than that giant iguana they called Godzilla (U.S version) that tuna eating bitch. And watching it in a HD theatre with bass speakers in the seats fucking rocked! Who cares how the director decides to make the sequel we need more giant monster flicks like the good old days!

laobuddy4life2

I think the idea of retelling the same night in a different perspective would be a kool idea...they did that with Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima...BUT I also think it might be repeditive.
