Jason Statham Wants to Play 'The Crow'?
Thursday, January 24, 2008

Here's a curveball that threw me for a loop, and until you rewatch the original don't get your panties in a bunch. Today action star Jason Statham revealed that there is talk of a remake to the James O'Barr comic adaptation, The Crow, and that if anyone ever came to him he'd do it. You can read all about it inside. Brandon Lee starred in the original and died on set during filming. The film has since then become a cult classic among horror fans.

Jason Statham tells IESB:

"You know, there's talk of them redoing THE CROW. That was a good movie with Brandon Lee, although that was years ago. So if that one comes my way, bang! You know, there's so many comic book movies out there and most of the time there's only a handful of people who can do them any justice. Hopefully, they'll come my way for one of them."

Brandon Lee played Eric Draven, a young rock guitarist who, along with his fiancee, is brutally killed by a ruthless gang of criminals. Exactly one year after his death, Eric returns -- watched over by a hypnotic crow -- to seek revenge, battling the evil crime lord and his band of urban thugs, who must answer for their crimes.

It shouldn't be remade at all, let alone another shitty sequel... But he could be OK for the roll I guess...

Doesn't need to be remade imo. But if they ever did another sequel, Jason Statham rules.

I like Jason Statham, but I don't think he would be a good Crow. Whatever though. After reading that article however, I was thinking...Crank 2? The end of that movie he is plumeting to his death. How the hell can he survive a fall from 30K feet?

He doesn't survive. Yes he blinks but he dies. And The Crow doesn't need to be remade, no more shit sequels need to be made. The first one was great, Brandon was great. The rest did nothing for me though.

The original Crow is my 2nd favorite movie next to The Lost Boys and I personally wouldn't want to see it remade at all. I have all 4 movies and the weakest one to me was Salvation, but I'd still love to see more sequels. We still need to see a female crow as well. At one point there were rumors flying around about Zombie making a Crow sequel, but that never happened. If a sequel is in fact made they should make a great sequel, which we can actually see in theaters. Zombie would still be my first choice to make it or maybe even Burton.

Statham kicks serious ass. If you don't like him and you're a guy, you're gay. If you don't like him and you're a chick? You're a dyke. You gotta love Statham. The Crow? I dunno I'd have to see a change in the appearance that would work. Also, Salvation, the weakest sequel? Did you see Wicked Prayer? With your eyes open? Godamn that was The Crow at his absolute worst.

Are they INSANE??? The Crow is cult classic and one of my all time favorite movie...i'm pretty damn tired hearing all these talk of those damn remakes. THE CROW DOESNT NEED A REMAKE leave it be and no one could play Eric Draven like Brandon Lee did.....The Crow Salvation weakest sequel?? damn its probably the most decent of all 3 sequels.

the only way this is ok is if they make a movie totally based on the comic. Horse flashbacks and all. But they won't Hollywood doesn't understand poetic.

Devourthesun
8:01pm, January 25, 2008

I Really hope that this is a joke. I've got nothing against Statham as an actor, but seriously, The Crow? A remake even? Please. If the word got out there was going to be an official remake of "The Crow" the fans would have a shit fit. Could you imagine thousands of 13-16yr old goth kids picketing outside of the studio over a remake?

Evil_Flip
11:02am, January 26, 2008

what's with all these remakes these days? I pitty the youth of today, cos over ten to twenty years all their 'classics' will be crappy remakes based on our classic movies made ten years earlier. not to mention the fact that I hate it that I have to keep reminding people I'm talking about the real Halloween, Fog, Texas Chainsaw, Hitcher, Hills have eyes etc etc.

BAD NEWS!!!! Havent we seen enough crappy Crow sequels? I love the original Crow film, its one of my favorites but a remake=COMPLETE GARBAGE!!

halloweenfan
11:17pm, January 26, 2008

Why the fuck are they daring to remake this movie. The Crow is one of my all time favorite movies. The sequels tell the story that nothing comes close to topping the original. Brandon Lee is untouchable at Eric Draven. If they do remake this I hope they do a new script because if they use the same one it will acomplish nothing but disgrace to the original. By the way The Crow wasn't meant for just Goth kids it was meant to be a movie that shows great depth in emotion while keeping a hard edge film. Bottom Line The Crow rocks and almost ALL Remakes SUCK!

halloweenfan
11:20pm, January 26, 2008

By the way the worst Crow sequel was Wicked Prayer it just seemed dull and out of place. But that is just my opinion.

theGuardian86

Wicked Prayer blows nearly as much as jhowington32 up there. Haha.

Ok I like to think I'm as big a fan of The Crow as anyone. But a lot of you people do not seem to be true fans. You only favor the first movie with Brandon Lee saying it is the only good one. I loved the first one and yes it is my favorite of them all. But the rest of them were good as well. I mean come on, all of them are based on love, pain and retribution...but to the point where each love is different in some way. The City of Angels was about the love for a father and his son, blood is thicker than water type deal and to say that the movie was bad because of that is just wrong. I thought each movie was really good according to the story it was based off of from the comics. They were pretty close to reproducing the stories from book to movie. If you read the first one that they used for teh first movie The Crow come on it wasn't exactly a carbon copy...but it was very good and close with a powerful delivery. And just because someone steps up and says they would like to finish it or re-do it isn't a bad thing. The way I see it is someone wants to put the missing pieces into a masterpiece of a puzzle because they respect the work to the point to where they would want the origional star (Brandon Lee) to be in a way proud and flattered that someone would want to complete something they weren't able to so that the whole thing could be told the way they would have told it if they were able to finish it. I LOVE Brandon's version and will always respect it and hold it dear and close. But if someone stepped up to finish it I wouldn't find that disrespectful at all and I would still like the origional better, but I would at least watch the new one as well and see how it turns out and what not. Maybe the actor who stepped up isn't the best but truest me if the people in charge do not see him fit they won't work with him. So calm down.
