Director John Carpenter sued horror film producer Irwin Yablans and distributor Compass International Pictures in Los Angeles Superior Court Jan. 14, claiming the two have failed to provide quarterly accounting and payments since 2004 for Halloween. Carpenter claims Yablans and Compass have breached their 1977 agreement for the film, released a year later, but does not indicate in the lawsuit how much he is owed. - Hollywood Reporter

It's no secret that Carpenter loves money.

To Dr_Loomis: He created it, bitch. Why shouldn't he get the money for something he is responsible for. The ones who are constantly fucking up his creation are the greedy ones. Go jack off to Rob Zombie's picture, fan boy. Also, I hope your house gets robbed.

Hey syxx, get over it. The movie was remade and no amount of teenage angst and pissy tantrums online will get it unmade. So stop attacking someone that didn't even say anything that was really even insulting to the man. Anyway, in response to this subject, I hope Carpenter gets what he deserves.

bottom line is, if carpenter is owed money, he should get it. if i was owed money i'd pursue it.

it was carpenters story and his movie he should be paid for his story i liked zombies version, tho i really think it would have been much better as a prequal instead of remake, or else he should have titled it HALLOWEEN: THE TRUE STORY OF MICHEAL MYERS :) -HEATHER

Of course Carpenter will go after every single penny, whether it's shiny or rusted. He hasn't had the ability to direct anything worth even mentioning in many yrs, and never will again, so he relies on any sort of profit from the one movie that created his "Ridiculous God-like status" as a director. I lost respect for this idiot after he admitted he would have directed H2O ( thats part 7 folks ), but he wasn't going to be paid enough, so he opted out.

J-Syxx, I actually said that in defense of Carpenter. I expected people to bring out the "Wow, what a greedy bastard" comments.

severed hand- if you created something that is hailed as a masterpiece and was still making money 30 years later but you weren't getting your legal share of it, you wouldn't pursue it? thats just dumb. it has nothing to do with anything else other then that.

It's very simple. If someone breached a contract, then Carpenter should get what he deserves. It's HIS creation/movie, and it's still raking in millions of dollars, he's entitled to whatever argeement they all signed. Who wouldn't go after due profits for something you created? It's really simple and there's no need for arguement.

yeah its really all his, i mean how much stuff has come out since 2004 regarding halloween. Hell the remake made game busters, but i am not sure if that is in the same conversation. Not sure if its the same, but compass still owns the rights so who knows?- anyway give the man his money, and that him for the greatness he gave us

Carpenter created this cash cow and deserves every penny he gets. Compass and Yablans violated a legal agreement they had with Carpenter.

Funny how it's ALWAYS about Carpenter........ALWAYS........yet there were other's who put the ideas and MONEY into it. I love how Carpenter talks about how HALLOWEEN made him a rich man........yet.....NOT rich enough. Whats funny about all of this is the fact that BEFORE any outcome of ANY kind........almost everybody sides with Carpenter.......go figure.

Severed Hand. It's not about SIDING with Carpenter. It's a basic principle about a contract. If someone is proven to be holding earnings away from him, he's entitled to it. It's not about greed or getter richer. A deal is a deal. If it just so happens to line his pockets a great deal, then good for him. He made a smart business deal. Again, who wouldn't go after millions of dollars if you could prove it is owed to you ?
