With only two short months (though this IS leap year, so they got that going for them), Universal/Rogue has finally decided to let us see a trailer for Doomsday, Neil Marshall's not-really-that-long-but-still-long-awaited followup to The Descent. If you head on over to BDTV you can check it out, courtesy of Yahoo!. The film is set three decades after a lethal virus tore through a major country, leading to the country's walling off from the rest of the world. When the virus, known as the Reaper, resurfaces in another country, an elite group is dispatched to the infected country to find a cure. There, they must battle through a landscape that has become a waking nightmare.
It does look like something similar to Escape from New York or anythng along those lines of mayhem and destruction by mobs or disfunctional utopias. It looked good at first but farther into the trailer, I started to become disinterested.
Wow, that went from looking like what could be an awesome zombie movie to an Escape From New York/Road Warrior hybrid partway through the trailer. Still.. it's got my attention. Looked pretty cool.
I am game for this. Even though it does look like a cross between 28 Days/Weeks Later and Escape From New York, it still looks better than half the horror movies that are on the horizon.
crap.....pure crap it dosen't feel realistic in any way shape or form with the human characters if you noticed THEIR(the "savages") CLOTHES ARE SPOTLESS and if they have electrical sources and gas it makes it that much more unrealistic. And the lead chick is just to passive it's worst acting then Milla in the Last Resident Evil and looks dead on the chick from every other action movie about women with short hair in the last 10 years
Concept was kind of a failure based on the fact people assumes their is a cure inside a city that had been closed off for 20 years plus
then the finally the fact none of their technology they brought with them wasn't that high tech
Looks like Land of the Dead (can't believe no one pointed that one out yet) meets Resident Evil meets Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Hmmmm I don't know if this will be what I was hoping it would be. Dog Soldiers and the Descent kicked ass, could third time not be a charm?
the thing is THIS IS 2008 and it dosen't have the 80's flim grittness and feel like a throw back AKA GRINDHOUSE(the DVD cuts are awesome). Snuffy the enemies are HUMAN only HUMAN slightly mutated by the virus so comparing this to those monster movies isn't really right and saying just because the team can do monster movies they can do this movie is dead wrong.
and why is everyone making comparisons to zombie movies this is a movie about a virus that only kills people AND DOESN'T bring them back to life it's just people have found ways to avoid the virus or cure it(even thought they are not 100% sure that they even found a cure in the first place and the virus didn't just die after a while)
i liked it, but in the same breath, its doesnet even look like it can top his first two outings.
