There were a lot of rumors circulating that Universal Pictures' remake of The Wolfman could possible be delayed because of the WGA strike - we have just confirmed that Mark Romanek will be heading being the camera on February 8 in London to begin shooting the film starring Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins! Like the 1941 original that starred Lon Chaney Jr., new pic will be set in Victorian England. Del Toro will play a man who returns from America to his ancestral homeland, gets bitten by a werewolf and begins a hairy moonlight existence. We'll all be howling at the moon on February 13, 2009.
I'm actually anxious to see how they remake this classic. I'm glad they are keeping it like the original set in 1941. Del Toro and Hopkins are amazing actors, so I would think the outlook is pretty good. I just hope the script is solid and they don't rely on too much CGI effects. I hope they go more old school like American Werewolf in London or The Howling. The transformation scenes in those movies still hold up today.
