Guillermo del Toro's 'Frankenstein' Becomes Mini-Series

In my mind no Frankenstein film has ever done the original 1931 adaptation justice and if I had my way I'd pray that another never gets made, but that was before it was revealed that Guillermo del Toro would be bringing the latest adaptation of Mary Shelley's story to life. Today MTV scored some more details on the project, which will please many of you. Read on for the skinny.

In Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” there are two monsters: the creature brought back to life, of course, and the mad scientist who does it, Dr. Frankenstein.

Del Toro, who told MTV News that he’s “always been” interested in directing a version of “Frankenstein,” said he’s hard at work in pre-production, crafting drawings which he hopes to use as a basis for the world of the film. “I started doing some notes before the strike,” he revealed. “[During the strike] I can only draw now.” (Watch Del Toro discuss “Frankenstein” after the jump.)

Known for his adult fairy tales like “Pan’s Labyrinth,” Del Toro insists he has a “definitive take” on the character.

“The only way to do the Shelley novel is to actually do a four-hour miniseries,” he said. “But I think there permutations in which you can tell the myth in a different way.”

In my mind DeNiro's performance was top notch and near the level of the original and very true to book and I want to see after knowing the creatures Del Toro has in his movies how he's going to make this Franky

It doesn't actually say it's going to be a miniseries. In fact, the last line of the article indicates he WON'T be doing a miniseries. "I think there permutations in which you can tell the myth in a different way." What he's saying is that IF he was going to do THE BOOK exactly, it would need a 4-hour miniseries, but that he's NOT doing the book EXACTLY. In fact, the article discusses the drawings he is doing that will be the basis for the FILM. Reading comprehension, people!

James Whale did it in 70 fucking minutes. Was he really that much better than Del Toro? Guess so!

I'm not sure how another version of Frankenstein would turn out. In my opinion, Franky and Dracula have been done plenty of times over the years. So has the Werewolf, but not the Wolfman original with Lon Chaney Jr. I'm really curious to see how they remake that one. Also Creature from the Black Lagoon. That could be something if done right. Like John Carpenters take on the Thing, VERY cool.

Im actually quite excited about this, though there have been many incarnations of the characters, most have been good and Del Toro is the man to do the job if anyone on any kind of revamp, remake etc.!
