Horror Takes #1: 'I Am Legend' Pulls in $76.5 Million!
Sunday, December 16, 2007

In the midst of all of that holiday garbage (Alvin and the Chipmunks, Golden Compass, Enchanted, The Perfect Holiday, Fred Claus, This Christmas and more) horror has proven that it's king of the world as Warner Bros. Pictures and their Will Smith starring post-apocalyptic thriller I Am Legend (review) took over the box office with an astounding estimated $76.5 million this weekend! If that's not cool enough, next week DreamWorks is releasing Sweeney Todd, so expect the top two slots to be horror! Only time will tell how 20th Century Fox's Aliens vs Predator: Requiem will do, but can you imagine horror taking over Christmas? That's all I want for the holidays... down with Santa and all of his reindeer.

Horror will not be no.1 next week National Treasure: Book of Secrets will be no.1 and AvP 2 will be no.2.

411. Most people went to see I am Legend because The Dark Knight trailer was being played on the same screen. They did not want to wait until tomorrow to see the trailer at their official website.

Sweeney should be #1 next week, but it wont be. WB/Dreamworks is only releasing the film in 1000 theatres. Lame.

You think that $76 million worth of people saw I Am Legend just for a 2 minute trailer? That's hilarious.

Nobody has any faith in Walk Hard? Most people I know and anybody I've heard talking about upcoming movies always mention that one. I'm sure it will at least be in the top three. Anyhow its gonna be a crowded weekend with several big movies already out and five more on the way, who knows?

What's more hilarious Saturdaythe13th are the morons and Will Smith brown nosers that would waste their money on seeing current version of The Last Man on Earth with a Dark Knight trailer that is only played on the same screen. I bet that if you could only see the Iron Man trailer by watching a particular film that it would make a whole lot of money and become number one just like the See No Evil trailer did for Hostel. Why didn't Hostel 2 make the same or more money than the first one since Hostel 2 did not have an exclusive trailer to a film that everyone would love to see?

I've never heard of any ever going to see a film "just to see the trailer". The Hostel/Hostel 2 argument is even more hilarious. See No Evil? Are you serious? But anyway, back to the subject. Sweeney Todd won't be #2 anymore than I Am Legend will be #1 again. National Treasure should knock it to #2 and Dewy Cox will give them a run for their money on 2,500 screens. Sweeney Todd is only on 1,000 screens and definitely doesn't appeal to a wide audience.

Well hellbilly, if you know the viewship of Monday Night Raw and some other WWE shows at that time, then the argument of See No Evil with Kane is valid as far as why Hostel was #1 just like how the Dark Knight trailer was responsible for I am Legend being #1. Warner Bros put out a press release that states that you could only see the Dark Knight trailer if you see I am Legend. The movie was already horrible to begin with since the script had to be rewritten many times.
