We've been hearing a lot about this over the past few weeks and now it's official, David R. Ellis is returning to the Destination franchise as he'll go behind the camera for Final Destination 4, which will be shot in 3-D. Final Destination 3 was planned to be a 3-D project but it was cancelled when costs appeared too high, but now 3-D has become easier to accomplish giving us fans what we wanted to see in the last film. FD3 was New Line Cinemas highest grossing film of 2006. Read on for details on New Line's latest collision with Death.
David R. Ellis is coming back to New Line for more death, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The director has signed to direct and develop "Final Destination 4," the latest installment of New Line's popular horror series, which the studio plans to shoot in 3-D.
The premise of the series is that even if you cheat death once, a force that is death itself will stalk you until it finishes what is started, usually in a gruesome fashion. While plot details for "FD4" are being kept under wraps, the movie will stand alone: It will feature new teens facing new forms of death.
The script was written by Eric Bress, who co-wrote "Final Destination 2."
Ellis directed the second installment, which was praised for its elaborately orchestrated killings.
New Line's Richard Brener and Walter Hamada are overseeing the project, which has no start date.
The "Final Destination" films have been solid performers for New Line since they debuted in 2000. The first film grossed $53.3 million, the 2003 sequel made $46.5 million and the third, released in 2006, collected $54 million. The movies usually are made for at least half that and do well on home video.
Ellis' credits include "Cellular" and "Snakes on a Plane" for New Line. He also is known for his second unit directing, having worked on such films as "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World" and "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." He is in post on the thriller "Asylum" for Hide Park.
Part 2 was absolutely terrible, and if the writer and director are coming back for 4 it doesn't look too good for us.
1 and 3 were good, and surprise they were done by the same people, this better be good and better look better then 2 did, I hated looking at it.
OMFG!!! YES!!! this would almost be as good is they made a buffy movie!!! FD is my favourite horror franchise after saw and halloween... and omg!!! i just hope this one makes it the best, number 3 rocked my world!!! and omg!!! i can't wait... FD 3 was by far one of the best films ive seen in my life... and ye... i cannt friggin wait!!! i just hope they collect whats left of the main survivors and make itl iek they all need their own experiences to fianlly stop it!!! thats wicked ass and whoot!!! bing it on!!! I LOVE U FD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pt. 2 was not horrible at all....the franchise as a whole is very good. I loved the first one and really enjoyed the second one, but even though I thought pt. 3 was ok, it was definately the weakest of the three. So I say bring it on.
i thought this was wonderful news but i wish part 3 was in 3-d, i dont know what they can come up with in this movie, theirs already been a plane, car crash, and a rollercoaster what else can they do i cant think of no more....uh a ship?
Sounds interesting. I loved the first FD and the second one even more so, but I was a tad disappointed by the third ones. Because of that I'm not getting my hopes up but who knows, maybe FD4 will surprise me.
How mnay times can you make the same movie and expect people to pay to see it? Whats the difference between 1,2 & 3? Different death scenes...period. Same plot, different kids trying to figure out how to cheat death, to no avail. GAY!
well it seems that they make the sequels different by changing the way you watch the movie, not bothering to change the story. even though it is lame, it's better then not changing anything at all (like most sequels). part 3 was worth it for the interractive bit (eventhough you couldn't change that much but the idea was cool), so this might be fun too. so I might pick this one up just for the 3d thingy.
I have been working as an Extra on this film here in New Orleans for about 2 weeks now. I can say from seeing the playback that David Ellis is making the 3D different than what you may be expecting. Its not going to be one of those "bloody stick poking out of the screen and almost hitting your eye" sort of 3D films. I cant wait to see what the final movie looks like.
