Bloody-Disgusting learned of some interesting news at the HorrorHound Weekend this Saturday, which took place in Indianapolis, Indiana. Horror fav Daeg Faerch (Halloween) tells B-D that he is up for a role in Platinum Dunes' Near Dark remake, where he would play "Homer" (originated by Joshua John Miller in the original). Now, just to be clear, he has NOT been cast as of yet and is trying to get the role. My verdict? I give it a thumbs up! Good casting if you ask me. Like the 1987 original by Kathryn Bigelow, the remake centers on a young man who reluctantly joins a traveling "family" of evil vampires after the girl he tried to seduce bites him and turns him into one.
I wonder if they will get Tangerine Dream to do the score. It almost like remaking Legend or the Neverending story without the music. Pointless. Think Jaws wiht out the shark theme. Don;t know if this is possible. Strangest thing is I like Near Dar, but I really feel like the movie was better than it deserved to be thanks in part to the music and the actors. I don't know how I feel about a remake because the original didn't really have an effect on me. The story is simple. Someone becomes a vampire and they refuse to feed, they are forced to stay with a evil clan of vampire that do kill to survive. The reason they stay is because they are in love with the woman that turned them who is also part of the clan. Very bland tale truthfully. The actors gave it more punch than it deserved to have.
daeg would do an awesome job ....two thumbs up on that but studios need to quit buying in to all these remakes and hire somebody with a imagination...
