Warner Bros. confirmed to CHUD that the ending was reshot fro the Will Smith starrer I Am Legend, which hits theaters December 14. What's not confirmed is what has been reshot. Their source tells them that the ending was redone, as the studio wasn't happy with the finale that director Francis Lawrence had. Robert Neville (Will Smith) is a brilliant scientist, but even he could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable…and manmade. Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City…and maybe the world.
The one thing I was worried about... ok there are a few things I was worrying about but primarily I really wanted the end of the movie to be true to the book. This news could be bad.
Sounds like the director wanted to have Will Smith die at the end, just as the main character does in the novel and both cinematic adaptations, but the studio didn't think audiences would go for that. Sigh...
