Coming later this week is a whopping ten page interview with Clive Barker - a legend among horror fans - but before we share the beast with you we thought we'd pull some of the big information gained from this epic interview and post it now. Inside you'll find all sorts of updates ranging from the Hellraiser remake to why he will not be involved in Fear Itself (good stuff). Read on and watch for more soon.

We’ve got a whopping ten page interview coming in the near future with the legendary Clive Barker, whos video game JERICHO is now available at retailers everywhere. During this whopper of an interview, which was conducted by ‘The Vault Keeper’, we chatted about all sorts of various projects such as the remake to HELLRAISER.

Things have finally started to move forward with Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury at the helm. Barker talks a bit about how involved he is with the project, “I will watch over two Frenchmen who will remake it and only because I think they are two very splendid young men who made a fucking great movie,” he continues, “I like them both. I like the movie INSIDE. It’s very good, very bloody and they are very nice smart guys who have a commitment to the original movie.

What we found interesting is how Barker doesn’t want his take on the story to be remade, he wants to see something fresh, “I think it’s all the more reason that they remake it; that they don’t take my version of the story. I had some specific suggestions, which I don’t want to spoil for you or anyone else, about how things might be taken up a notch or two. And you know S&M just isn’t what it used to be! So if we’re to do the whips and chains and the hooks we have to do them at a whole new level because I thinks its tired material.

A whole new level, eh? With Alexandre and Julien at the helm I don’t think that’s going to be much of a problem…

We then joked a bit about how Pinhead just isn’t scary anymore… Clive agreed wholeheartedly, “I agree. Well, it’s not just Pinhead, the whole fucking movie has to be scary again. My commitment to being involved was really based on these guys who had a bloody good idea that had nothing to do with what I had in my head. So more power to them.

Doug Bradley has been openly asking to return as Pinhead in the remake, but unfortunately it’s too early to say, “I wish I knew. I don’t think they even know at this stage.

Of course one thing that all horror gamers have been wondering is, will Pinhead ever make it into a video game? Barker chats a bit about how he sold his soul to the Devil, who now owns the rights, “I have no interest in turning Hellraiser into game. Firstly, I don’t have the rights so if somebody’s going to do it they can do it. I earned 21,000 dollars from writing and directing the first movie and it was my deal with the devil, god bless ‘em. I’m fine with that. I have no interest in that. I feel like we’re constantly looking over our shoulder, it’s all retro at the moment.

On another note we had to bug Clive once again about that NIGHTBREED footage, which was said to be turning into a ‘definitive’ cut of the film. Will we ever see it? Clive says ask the studios, “That was footage that was found in someone’s garage! That’s how amazing that is. That wasn’t actual film footage just video shot with Craig Spector’s video camera around the set. I have asked Fox over and over again for the missing 25 minutes and of those missing minutes there just isn’t a sign. And you know, let’s be clear, all they care about is money so what is the upside to Fox who have this material somewhere in their system?

And what the heck ever happened to TORTURED SOULS with Todd McFarlane? I’m guessing this ones done for good, “It’s out there but I think until Todd gets into a place where he really wants to get into movies it’ll sit. But, you know I’m up to my neck in stuff as it is.

Now this is some interesting stuff, Barker did some work for Mick Garris’ Masters of Horrors by writing Valeria On The Stairs, but it doesn’t look like he’ll be returning for FEAR ITSELF. Check out why… “Once you get to that NBC, CBS shit I’m out of there,” he explains, “I just don’t think you can win with those guys. I’ve been playing this roundabout game with these people in the studios and TV department for 20 years and the names on the doors change, the attitudes change but these people are people with mortgages and kids and all they really care about is keeping their job at the end of the week. And Christ help me if they actually say ‘yes’ to something. Then they’ve really got something to worry about.” - The Vault Keeper

Hopefully the same won’t happen to the HELLRAISER remake. There is a lot of potential to turn this into the next big franchise, but will the Weinstein’s take too much control and put a muzzle on the project? Let’s pray to the Gods that they don’t…

Watch for the monster interview later this weekend.

Wow. With Barker's supervision, this remake has major potential. Do whatever it takes to make Pinhead scary again...

I'm really looking forward to reading the entire article. It's nice to read something about Clive Barker. I just can't picture anyone other than Doug Bradley as Pinhead though.
