If there's one film that's creating a lot of stir in this year's After Dark Horrorfest it's Jim Mickle's Mulberry Street. I personally wasn't a huge fan of the film, but Mickle's talent stands out like sore thumb, he's got what it takes. We learned via press release this morning that Mickle has now lined up his next project, an adaptation of Joe R. Lansdale's Cold in July. Read on for details.
Belladonna Productions announced today that MULBERRY STREET director Jim Mickel will helm COLD IN JULY with MULBERRY co-writer Nick Damici on board to adapt.
Here's the synopsis: Despite the trappings -- guns, stakeouts, an ex-con, a private eye, a porn ring, a shootout -- this isn't an ordinary suspense novel. It's a lean, effective character study about a man who risks his comfortable life to pursue something half-glimpsed within his psyche. He feels guilty about his father's suicide, he doubts his ability to raise his own son, and now he's mixed up with another father, whose son has gone into a place of great darkness. A stirring tale in which actions have consequences, and no one is left unchanged by the things that they see and do.
“Mickle’s unrivaled knowledge and experience of the suspense and horror genre will serve this property well,” commented Belladonna Principals Linda Moran “we have enormous faith in Jim to bring the story to the screen in a way that preserves the tone and intention of Lansdale’s’ novel.”
You can check out MULBERRY STREET in theaters November 9-18 as part of After Dark Horrorfest. Click here for details.
