AFter that disasterous Ring Two, I don't know how much I trust Japanese director Hideo Nakata, director of the original Ringu films. It was reported last night that New Line Cinema has optioned Out, a 1997 novel by Natsuo Kirino that won Japan's Grand Prix Award for crime fiction. Hideo Nakata is attached to direct, and Joe Forte will write the thriller's script. The story revolves around a Tokyo woman who murders her abusive husband and enlists three fellow factory workers to cut up and dispose of the body.
Its easy to blame Nakata for The Ring 2. But the fact is he did a Ring sequel right the first time with Ringu 2. Add to that his Japanese productions like Ringu, Dark Water, Chaos and Ghost Actress and you have to admit The Ring 2 didn't exactly define his career. It was a low point in his career, that's all.
