Some remake announcements I just shrug off, some I get excited for, and then some just plain get under my skin. While I am a remake enthusiast, there are some films I consider untouchable, and if a studio is going to remake a film all I ask is that it's different. Universal did throw us a pretty damn good remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD, so maybe a remake of John Carpenter's They Live won't be all that bad? Besides, Zack Snyder's Strike Entertainment is getting involved, which can only mean good things (right?). The story also confirms that Strike is also still planning on remaking THE THING (1982), which is a remake of THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD (1951). Zone Film is delivering a slice of horror with Jeff Welch's Piecemeal, a pretty interesting film that tells the tale of a teen who struggles to control his rage while living the life of a brutally abused young man in recurring nightmares. Daniel Roby is set to direct the film next fall after helming Remstar Prods.' 1970s-era saga FUNKTOWN in March. Seville Pictures will distribute the film in the U.K. and Canada, which means a Lionsgate release in the States is highly probably. Roby scored the TIFF's best Canadian debut feature award for his excellent vampire thriller WHITE SKIN. TCB Film's Simon Trottier will produce the film - his recent Toronto thriller MARTYRS helped land director Pascal Laugier a gig helming Dimension's next HELLRAISER film.
After getting back on their feet, Hammer Films has be trucking along moving up from an internet-based series (Beyond the Rave) to making brand new feature films. Today some huge news was announced via Variety that Academy Award winner Hilary Swank (The Reaping) has been set to topline Hammer's THe Resident, a few teased a few months back. A musician, model, bartender and hotel concierge are just a few of the lucky 13 contestants who will face their deepest fears on 13 - FEAR IS REAL, the new horror/reality show on The CW debuting Wednesday, Jan. 7. Brought to you by the legendary Sam Raimi, Zap2it has the full breakdown for the first season of this horror reality show. Stranded in a remote Louisiana bayou, the 13 competitors will have to face surprises and scares or else be eliminated and "killed off." We just confirmed exclusively that the full trailer for New Line Cinema and Platinum Dunes' Friday the 13th will debut online tomorrow (Thursday) and will also play before prints of Lionsgate's PUNISHER: WAR ZONE this weekend in theaters everywhere. The trailer will include brand new footage from Jason Voorhees' return to the big screen. The film directed by Marcus Nispel follows a group of young adults that find themselves going toe-to-toe with the infamous Jason Voorhees (Derek Mears) at a cabin near Camp Crystal Lake. While highly reminiscent of DreamWorks' WAR OF THE WORLDS poster, Summit Entertainment's official one sheet for Alex Proyas' Knowing is pretty damn cool. The image displays the Earth with a whole bunch of odd symbols bleeding out of the atmosphere; check it out inside. Arriving in theaters March 20, the film tells the story of a man (Nicolas Cage) who unearths a time capsule with children's drawings predicting the future that was buried in the 1950s. One child's drawings predicted several horrible events that already have come true; however, one of those events has not yet occurred, and the man sets out to prevent it from happening. ...Read More
We caught wind of a new film going into production next March in San Francisco, CA that sounds pretty freakin' cool. Written and directed by Joshua Grannell is All About Evil, which follows a mousy librarian, who has inherited her father's beloved old movie house, discovers her inner serial killer -- and a legion of rabid gore fans -- when she starts turning out a series of grisly shorts. What her fans don't realize yet is that the murders in the movies are all too real. Upcoming phenoms Thomas Dekker (From Within, The Sarah Connor Chronicles) and Noah Segan (Deadgirl, Cabin Fever: Spring Fever) will topline alongside horror legends Cassandra Peterson (Elvira) and Mary Woronov (Night of the Comet, Chopping Mall, House of the Devil). After LA Weekly dubbed the project dead in the water, there have been a few pieces of news that have given us a glimmer of hope for the Warner Bros. adaptation of Dark Shadows, which originally set Tim Burton to direct with Johnny Depp starring. This week Collider caught up with YES MAN producer Richard D. Zanuck who cleared the air stating that SHADOWS is going to be Tim’s next project after ALICE IN WONDERLAND and they’ll be shooting it next summer in London! You can watch the video inside.

You saw some reviews hit the web regarding Marcus Nispel's Friday the 13th, now it looks as if we'll be seeing something completely different when the film hits theaters February 13, 2009. Some pretty sweet news comes in this afternoon as sources tell us that Platinum Dunes shot additional scenes for New Line Cinema's remake, which follows a group of young adults that find themselves going toe-to-toe with the infamous Jason Voorhees (Derek Mears) at a cabin near Camp Crystal Lake. While George A. Romero Presents Deadtime Stories made its rounds at last months American Film Market, plans were already underway for a sequel. This morning a new story hit the web detailing DEADTIME STORIES 2, which is already lensing for a 2009 release. In addition, the story also reveals that there will in fact be a DEADTIME STORIES 3! Update: The film has officially been announced as part of the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. It has been awhile since I saw anything that really blew my mind, and this week we've already got three indie films making our front page. Check this one out for size. The film is called Bronson, which was directed by Nicolas Winding Refn. If you head over to BDTV you can chew on the official trailer, which looks insanely violent and incredibly bloody. The film is the evolutionary journey of Mickey Peterson into Britain's most notorious and dangerous living prisoner CHARLES BRONSON. Originally sentenced to 7 years in prison for burglary, Charles Bronson has been behind bars for 34 years, 30 of which have been spent in solitary confinement. Last week we brought you the official one sheet and trailer for Susan Montford's While She Was Out (trailer), now we got our hands on the first batch of official stills from the film hitting limited theaters on December 12th. A suburban housewife (Kim Basinger) is forced to fend for herself when she becomes stranded in a desolate forest with four murderous thugs. What starts off as a quick trip to the mall ends in the woods with a fight for her life. All she has is a toolbox and her will to survive.

At the press junket for Lionsgate's forthcoming PUNISHER: WAR ZONE, director Lexi Alexander revealed to Latino Review that she was recently sent this script to Jonah Hex, which recently was left without a director when Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor left the project last month citing creative differences. The article is clear that she is by no means the new director, but a potential option for Warner Bros., who is still looking to get the project off the ground with Josh Brolin. Hex, known for having the right side of his face disfigured and wearing a Confederate army uniform, was a rough-and-tumble gunslinger and part-time bounty hunter whose adventures always ended in blood. ...Read More
While the LA Times reported that this long-gestured project was D-E-A-D, a new report in Variety confirms that Dark Shadows is alive and well over at Warner Bros. Pictures (yay!). They write that Depp's company "Infinitum Nihil also is working with GK Films and WB on a film transfer of "Dark Shadows" that will have Depp playing Barnabas Collins." While it might not happen any time soon, it's still nice to know that something could happen eventually. Over 1,225 episodes, "Dark Shadows" was a highly atmospheric, spooky soap that featured gothic horror staples like vampires, monsters, witches, werewolves, ghosts and zombies. For the Rob Zombie mega-fans, Zombie announced today the launch of his brand new official website, which has details on all of his projects ranging from music to film. It also carries a news page and blogspot so you can track his every move (and then report it to B-D). The website is called RobZombieWorld.com and could become a pretty important place to watch if he does end up directing HALLOWEEN II for Dimension Films (still no comments coming in from all directions).
A film that was slammed on our radar last night was Rupert Glasso's Coffin Rock, which we've been heavily researching over the past 24 hours.
